What makes you think Phuket sandbox with shut down? If anything it looks like there's becoming more options of going to other islands there after initial 7 days on Phuket. But yes, you are right, definately need to keep an eye on the changes.

Have you done the ASQ in BKK yet? The difference between being locked in a room and being able to roam around phuket freely is huge, it's a no brainer to me.

Your comment suggests that the landlords would prefer the 50% and now you say they don't need the money, which is it? The rent from these little tin hut bars is a drop in the ocean to what the land value is, many hundreds of years or rent money, even at 100%.

Everyone likes a bargain but if there was not 2 for 1 bars do you suggest they wouldn't pay the high prices on walking street.....i think not.

Can you transit through BKK to get to Phuket or must it be a direct flight? When left i bought my return ticket from Europe to BKK only as the sandbox was not on the go then, am i going to have to throw that away and buy a new ticket direct to HKT? Thanks.

The one i used was in Big C, sure it starts with an A but the name escapes me. For the bigger bars you'll need to order. Best place is China town in BKK but depending on where you live it could be a trek. Most shops will buy each others gold.

Just buy gold blocks, i believe 5 / 10 /20 / and 50 baht weights are available. Don't buy necklaces etc coz you pay for the workmanship. I had a fair bit of gold but sold it all when Brexit happened and made a few quid, i guess people were hedging their bets. Here's and example, in 1999 i recall buying a 3 baht weight chain for the wife at 18-20K baht price, the same chain now would be closer to 70K.
