  1. You have every right to get married on tourist visa and apply for change of status and people do this very frequently. What you have to prove is that there was no intent to do so when you entered the US and is was a decision made after arrival. Some very good information here

    TH

I wish this was true. I went to the U.S. embassy last wed.& was told the U.S. (uscis) has stopped issuance of the I130 leaving your only viable option is a 129f.

As of jan. 27th all the rules changed I know people who made it before this date & used their links & info & it is all Useless. You need too look at the uscis site & go through all the motions . I wish I was fortunate enough to do this before Jan 27th this year & now with all the new immigration problems brewing in the U.S. The dept I talked to in DC. said they are going to really clamp down. I wish you luck but I personaly would do it legally & avoid hearing they will not admit your wife into the U.S. for up to 10 years. If you want I can hook you up with the topdog Emissary to the embassy in Pattaya. It would be in your best interest to contact the uscis in America(cheap if you use skype & find out about the new changes so your not caught with your pants down!

Good luck PM me if you want Garys number for acess to the embassy.

It is no longer the cakewalk it used to be, even if you decide on a visa company to help. There are 6 americans here in Pattaya that are hating the new laws.No longer the same be smart keep it legal as it is an act of purgery

if you get caught & they will grill you hard since they are really cracking down on the immigration issues.

I would fly my girl to Mexico & walk along the freeway if the ticket was that easy!

I am certain all the good luck stories are true before Jan27th but it behooves you to check into any action before you shoot yourself in the foot!

  2. Hello Everyone!

I hope some of the experts are out there have a look-see at this topic...

    Here is our situation...

I am a US citizen living in the San Francisco Bay Area of California... My Thai girlfriend and I have been dating since August of 2006...

I am nearly 46 and she is nearly 34. We are both mature professionals. We both are stable in our jobs and our lives. Neither of has been married before, but both of us have been involved in long-term relationships -- so we know what we are generally in for...

In fact, we are in the same profession -- we are both educational psychologists. She is currently a professor at a Thai university in Bangkok and I am an educational psychologist in the San Francisco Bay Area... We met in July 2006 via a mutual Thai friend in Bangkok...

I have already been travelling and living in Thailand for 2 out of the last 5 years, so I am pretty well-versed in Thai culture and language... So, no, this is not a "quickie stars in our eyes situation" -- like some newbies may find themselves in...

We are very serious about each other, we talk on the phone several times a day... We vacationed together during the Xmas 2006 and New Year's holidays... We are actively discussing marriage and relocating to be together. I have a university/ teaching job offer at her university in Bangkok... We are both good communicators with each other.

At the same time we are considering that she re-locate here to extend her studies (she has a masters and would like to pursue her Ph.D. here in California). I already have a Ph.D. in educational psychology.

She is arriving in California in late April for 3 weeks on a tourist visa to visit me, meet some of my family and friends and to check out my life and situation here in the Bay Area...

So, one question we have is:

Is it to our advantage if we decide to get married in the Bay Area during her visit here?

This may seem relatively quick, but we are wondering what are the ramifications for us getting married while she is here on a tourist / visitor visa -- instead of waiting to apply for a fiancee or marriage visa in the future???

Since she will be already here, it makes sense to get married to save time... At the same time, I do not want to complicate the process if she later applies for a change of status...

She is currently planning to return to Bangkok in mid-May to return to her job...

...but at the same time, she may be tempted to toss her current job in Bangkok where she is basically over-worked and under-paid... I support this idea, too, because I know her work environment very well and I have seen her teach and interact with her colleagues, etc... I know that she is "big fish" in her relatively small pond of academic life in Bangkok...

So, this may be a lot of background information, but we wanted to give TV folks a bigger sense of our picture at present...

    So, again, can we discuss...?

"Advantages and disadvantages to our getting married in the SF Bay Area during her visit here?"

Many thanks for all of your help! I greatly appreciate the thoughtful minds that are here on TV forum!

    Cheers,

    dseawarrior & GF

    Hi Dseawarrior,

I am trying to start my usa visa & what I have found out is that they would be very chapped if they allow you to get married on a visitor visa. The dowside is they might have your girlfriend go back home & permanently deny her entry. From what I understand from the Uscis & Bangkok embassy Is you need to file a 129f fiancee visa non immigrant visa along with proof of marital status or divorce(if you are divorced you need all the info(I am caught on that one as I was divorced 20 years ago & never looked at where the ###### papers came from!) unfortunately I can,t even start the visa till I provide that with the 129f. I have tried since dec. to get this started.

Once the uscis recieves the paperwork if approved it goes up to Bangkok & you recieve an interview.

then you have to submit to the U.S. proof of financial ability to support her till a green card is issued (usually a year) Along with a muriad of documents claiming both of you are not terrorists or have ever engaged in human trafficing!....... She will have to get police report in Bangkok along with a big list of shots.

All the links can be seen on uscis.gov site along with Bangkokusembasst.gov site

It takes seriously 7 or 8 months to a year if you pass the interviews & the requirments!

To the best of my knowledge this is the only acceptable way to the U.S. gov to get married in the U.S.

The other way is to marry here & wait 4-ever for a thai spousal visa & you will be put on the bottom of the program (where the whales sing in the ocean) as Thailand is considered @nd to the bottom in desireable

    immigrants.

It really is sad & you are on a tough road no matter which direction you chose as the U.S. is the toughest country

in the world for immigration!Unless of course if your mexican you can just walk across the saint ynes border thru Tijauna border (used to live in sandiego & every weekend me and the boys would bet on how many would come into the U.S. in a half an hour.

I too will be moving to Sonoma when I finally get a visa for my fiancee!

Go through the entire site you posted on & you will get more insight into this long involved process. All you can do is bear through the bull & yes they are going to look up your schphincter & run you thru the grinder, so get ready for an experience. Best not to use a visa co. as they tend to be harsher as indicated to me by a Pattaya embassy emmisary.

But whatever you do do it right cause if you piss em off by pulling a quick one on them , from what I heard it will be most hateful.

Look on the other posts, I spent 25 hrs. or so already & called the U.S.3 times!

Good luck If I can help at all PM me Beardog

To other expats if I am wrong please correct me as any info is always appreciated!

  4. We are designing a big Bali-Thai style bathroom. Im considering a wooden Thai style tub, like this.

What are your thoughts? material, cleaning of, longevity......

Btw the way the house is a Thai / farang wooden house with "cotman" cement bathroom. The style of this tub would fit, but im worried about the material.

AND any ideas where I can buy one -- perhaps in the north?

    Kindly, HH

My Brother had a woodenstyle hot tub similar to the one shown 6 years ago in Reno Nevada & after 3 years of treating the algie funk & sealing it every year i persuaded him to let me put in a fiberglass tub & it is problem free& never developes weird odors that wood picks up. Especially if you intend on using warm or hot water in it!

Fiberglass & it is spot clean in 2 minutes of soft scrubbing. At Homeworks they have an awesome tub VARIOL

TBF130 for 10,270baht dimensions cm168 x 32cm if you have the space. this will be the tub I get when we start to build. Good luck Beardog

  5. Hi...

My wife and I applied for her to come to the states back in December.

Our petition was recieved by US immigration mid January.

February 28th, we got notice that Homeland security "approved" her and that they would then send that word to the embassy in BKK.

It has been 3 weeks today, we have heard nothing, but I understand the process "typically takes 3-6 weeks".

I am in the states, she in Thailand. and I have exhausted my 90 days. I own my own business, several properties and support will not be an issue. She holds a degree and has an excellent track record. My phone records average $1000 per month and we have about 300 e-mails to each other in the past 3 months...also many pictures together.

My questions to those in the know:

Does this Homeland security approval pretty much mean the visa is now a slam dunk?

Are we merely going thru the formalities now or does the chance exist she can still be refused?

Any idea how long it will take once BKK recieves the paperwork from the US?

I thank you in advance for any and all help provided.... and I sincerely wish the best for all others in this most uncomfortable situation.

Sounds like it would be cheaper to purchace an extra computer & use Skype!!!!!! cost to you would be probably $10-20$ a month after a 8000 baht (cheap charlie used computer) + 700 baht for highspeed to run Skype!

I am American & use Skype alot back home to contact the govn. concerning getting my fiancee visa started

& to call family & friends

  6. Hi,

Does anyone have a clue how I can get a copy of my final decree of divorce in the U.S.

I forgot to look at what state it was filed from when I signed the petition as my ex took care of the divorce & all I had to do was signit & return it. I was so elated to say Bye Bye to the wench I Threw a party along with tossing the papers that have the numbers for a copy for the 129f form.

I tried 3 states so far & do not want to spend 150,000 baht to individualy serch each state .

Would I be better off to get a U.S. attorney or will Bangkok find this out for 2000 baht as they would if I married here in Thailand.

Beating cancer was a walk in the park compared to trying to achieve this visa!!!!!!!

It was filed over20 years ago!

  7. Hi,

I have been trying to get started a fiancee visa & get married to the U.S. since Jan 2nd.

Do I first send my 129f along with a marriage status report

& after aplication is recieved & appt. is made then I recieve my 797 for in packet 3?

Is the 797 the K1 visa form?

I have tried all links & have found no downloads for the K1 form ?

Is this the form that has my finantial disclosure?

Does anyone know what the minimum in the bank is needed to establish elegibility to support wif till she is issued a green card.

last question I found a company advertising a public record search for providing a decree of divorce.Dates , place of filing etc. Is this copy good enough for the U.S. Govn.????

I cannot believe how difficult to just start the process!! I was planning on getting married this year in late june & have changed it to next June 2008 to be more realistic as I know I will not get a visa at this rate till 2010.

The most I found out was If she was Mexican She would be able to walk across the boarder & by all realistic means never get caught & eventually be granted amnesty.

Could someone help me at all, I am getting no where quick with the embassy in Bangkok & because of the new changes in Jan. this year my inside help with the embassy is also at a loss.

Thank you soooooooo much. I know this is the only forum that always has help available! I am so confused about the visa process! :o

Beardog (Pm me I am always on line looking in the health & visa forums)

  8. Hi,

I recently tried to get a pin number to make an appointment to get an apointment for my Fiancee to go to the U.S. & found out you need a pin # to make an apointment . the site charged my credit card 3 times (which I used 2 credit cards 6 times, it said invalid address but allowed me to put in a username & Password.

You are not allowed to talk to anyone in the embassy about visa's as of this Jan. I went down to Rayong from Pattaya to get the pin # & now that I have the pin number I can't access the proper pageto give my pin number.

The only thing I can get out of the U.S. embassy is a Thai lady who quickly turns me over to an answering machine that tells me nothing that pertains to getting in. And they tell you on the message not to bother to come down in person as you won't get to talk to anyone anyway! I can't believe my own countries embassy is this lame!

Does anyone have any input on the new changes on how to get an appointment?

    Thanks Beardog :o

  9. Hi,

To anyone wishing to purchase Colloidal silver I gave out the wrong E-mail address

    Tim Robins E-mail address is

He offers very good prices & quick shipment from Chiang Mai (not an advertisement just correcting a bad address!)

    Beardog :o

  10. And be careful - there ARE dangers...

    I agree.

If you use ingest silver salts over a long period of time you may develop argyria (patches of grey skin). This is apparently the case with people who drink colloidal silver that is made from tap or 'purified' drinking water.

But, if you make coll. silver using pure, DISTILLED water, this cannot occur because there are no salts to form, and therefore little to nothing builds up in your system.

Silver and its salts have been used as natural antibiotics for thousands of years. It was only when the modern medical/pharma cartels arrived on the scene that it was shoved aside and dubbed as antiquated, or 'quackery'...

Does anyone know where to get good quality coll. silver here in Thailand?

    Thanks

You can purchace colloidal silver 20 ppm.(recomended dose) thru Tim robins in Chiang Mai. he runs a health food shop there. he is a very good man & Quite helpfull as well.

His E- Mail address is [email protected] I purchaced 6 500ml. bottles for 3000 baht & 200 baht to ship post. he will ship by bus or post for you. It is considerably less than U.S. or Europe & the quality is the same. You can also make colloidal silver relatively easy(the hardest part is having the 700 baht worth of silver electrodes. it cost another 900 baht to have it sent to my sisters house in Chicago Ill. USA

then it is necessary to get sterile water as mentioned the only way you can possibly get algeria is making the water with salt particles in it. To make you can go to www. newfoundationspubl.org/silver.htm(the shepherd's purse) they give a diagram using 3 9 volt batteries(very inexpensive) & gives great testimonials to the use.

In Oregon & California vetinarians use colloidal silver moreover conventional antibiotics due to the higher sucess rate of treatment. It is safe I would suggest 2 tablespoons for 30-45 days & then 1 tablespoon a day thereafter.

There are directions on the bottles as well as on the fliers Tim Robins will supply with your order. He is quick & Legit. He had me wire in 3200 baht & 3 days later It was delivered to my house.

Good luck & great health to you & Happy New year to all of us in Thailand.

    Baerdog

  11. ...I was informed I recieved Hep C from a 1985 blood transfusion in California & have been taking colloidal silver for 5 months my viral load 2 weeks ago went down by 50% from 2,400,000 to 1,235,000...

Have you looked into Dr. Bob Beck's Blood Electrification with microcurrents and EM pulse techniques? I don't have HepC or any other viral infection myself, but this technique, in conjunction with the coll. silver, will apparently virtually eliminate the rest of the virus from your system. That, and virtually any other pathogens, too. Very low-cost, 'do-it-yourself' type of advice. I have a video of a talk he gave some years ago explaining some of these techniques. He was living proof that they worked, being that his blood was tested and found to be totally clean, contain NO parasites/pathogens whatsoever, which apparently is unheard of. He held up stacks of case studies of remissions of all types of viral infections -- ALL suppressed knowledge by the medical and drug cartels (for obvious reasons...). He did this research at his own expense and gave it away for free, being that he was already retired and independently wealthy from his other engineering/science-related businesses and patents.

There are kits and instructions available on the web for building the devices yourself. Alternatively, there are also sources where you can buy pre-built ones (but they're somewhat pricey).

Thanks for the info I am looking at the site. Appreciate the input

  12. I'm good friends with a health inspector and they have a team that inspects water factories. The factories have to meet the health standards. If it fails, they are issued with a warning to improve and a follow up inspection is carried out. If the factory fails the follow up inspection it's closed down.

In Pattaya the white bottles are tap water & the blue bottles are reverse osmosis.

We buy the white bottles & clean the hel_l out of them & purchase the 5-6 litre nestley or whatever companies good drinking water use & refill with the bottle water at the machines & dump into the big containers.

I bought a water test kit & Pattaya's water in white bottles failed miserably!!!! The trucks with the good water(blue bottles) charge 300baht for the initial bottle & the white bottles were 90 baht. I know the machine water is much purer than the tap water.

  13. Hi,

There are a whole miriad of diet pills (mainly appetite suppresants as the Thai govn. heavily frowns on the real thing. most will control the urge to eat & curb your appetite as long as your will is to lose weight.

My thai girlfriend is presently using a product made by ordain health care pvt. ltd the ingrediants are sibutramine

hydrochloride monohydrate 15 mpgs & seems to work well. You can get this brand at the drug store in Soi Kao talo after the 1st 7-11 +a half a block further next to the pet shop (only one on Soi kao talo) there is also a pharmacy (a little more expensive) across the street. I would stay away from the expensive tea drinks 9not that they do not work) but you have to take for a long time to work & they are pricey!

You can find a dietary supplements for about 25-30 baht a pill in 10 pack increments.

Beware the pharmacies will try to fill you with bull about the pharmacy down the road sells a copy that does not work. most of the ingrediants are identicle & work the same. None have ephederine so0 they are relatively safe on a short term basis.Even more important is your will to lose the weight & to exercise & I know it is extremely dificult as the Thai food here is excellent, but only eating when you are truely hungry is the key.

I am the same target weight of 67 kilos(153 lbs) since I was 18. I am 5'5" now & have had to remind myself to only eat when my body requires food. I do cheat & occassionally eat a dairy queen small ice cream cone.

These pills should curb your craving & you most likely can get them at smaller pharmacies in Pattaya as the larger ones want to sell you the 3000 baht dietary supplement drinks. Good luck you can do it! :o

  15. I hear a million and one stories about vallium being freely available over the counter / strictly illegal without a Doctors letter.

Since giving up drinking I have had a few problems sleeping so I went yesterday to my local chemist to ask if they could help, putting the ball in their court as I did not want to be seen as trying to break the law. "A few vallium is what you need, there you are, just dont be stupid and take several at once" I was told. At no point did the staff look furtive and the shop is on a very busy main road.

Talking to a friend today, I was told the Chemist risked jail by selling them. Can anyone clear this one up for me once and for all? Legal or not?

According to the top Pattaya lawer I talked to said if it is sold in the pharmacies (Vaallium or zanex)

it is legal as the pharmacy is not going to risk jail & losing their business for a nit noi profit.

My spouse & I have had both prescibed & know better than to buy from the hospital because they jack up the price. As far as the pharmacies go I have not one time every been asked for a prescription for sleeping aids as the Thai government looks as valium & zanex not in the same class as painkillers, till they change the class of narcotic it will be legal. I will occasional eat 2 as the valiums are 5mg. but as suggested use them cautiously as they are addicting(especially if you have an addictive personality)

    Sleep well DON"T WORRY

It may be worth your interest to check out Colloidal Silver use at www.quackwatch.org

And be careful - there ARE dangers...

Quackwatch is currently under investigation by the U.S. government & has 2 pending lawsuits against them by the FDA for reporting inaccurate findings & is sponsored by the major drug companies in America.

I have a BA in medicine as I was training to be a veternarian.

Colloidal silver has been used in animal treatment for over 45 years with awesome sucsess.

It is Sqibb Bristol myers & a half of other drug companies that sponsor quackwatch's Propoganda.

I was informed I recieved Hep C from a 1985 blood transfusion in California & have been taking colloidal silver for 5 months my viral load 2 weeks ago went down by 50% from 2,400,000 to 1,235,000 & my ast

(the part of your ast alt test for liver enzymes) has also gone down by 26 points & has shown good signs of liver regeneration.

And NO I am not turning a blue or siver-blue from taking colloidal silver! I beat cancer 11 years ago &

was diagnosed with 6 months to go & am still very healthy!

It just goes to show not to buy into all the negative crap propoganda the drug companies will try to feed you.

Please do not take this as an insult but I checked into quackwatch & they are in fact quacks!

    Thanks for the feedback.

  18. Hi,

I live in Pattaya & was wondering if anyone Knows where I might find Medical grade distilled water to make colloidal silver (good for many ailments).

I found Carrefourre has it in the battery dept. but some of the water looks a little scruffy to be using for ingesting. the 4 hospitals & all the pharmacies don't have a clue when asked in English or Thai.

I think Chaing Mai might have it & will Be going their soon.

I just do not want to try to ship 3 or 4 gallons of water from the U.S. for 6000 baht in shipping & not to mention the liquid on a plane scrutiny these days!

Any one have a clue? Thanks

  19. From many years working in tropical and extreme heat conditions one of things I quickly learnt was to go without underpants. Let the air flow under your normal trousers or shorts.

I get crotch rot more frequently in Thailand and I believe it’s from the way my clothes are washed. Some laundries don’t rinse the clothes enough to totally rid them of laundry detergent. It’s very noticeable if they’ve been hand washed.

If I start to suffer from crotch rot I find Nappy (Diaper) Rash Cream works very well and clears it up over night.

I agree fully with Farma in his assesment in not wearing underwear. I used to live in Hawaii USA & a lot of men got similar rashes due to the same humidity as Thailand. Almost all cases were remedied by ditching the undies & it feels better anyway , Especially in warm climates.

Avoid baby powders & the like that are suppose to keep you dry, on the contrary it only locks in the moisture & makes it worse!!

Your Question yesterday is easily answered you can bring in this contry however illegal it is here if you have a valid prescription. I brought Percocet vicodin & lorecet(in the original pill containers) for my back as I am highly allergic to codein & they offer me asprin or morphine & I refuse to use morphine unless I am dying of cancer! If you really concerned bring your medical history(or that portion with you)

Thailand does not have a clue what western meds are anyway. It is more a question thru U.S. or England

If it is legit I wouldnt sweat it pumper. Good luck on the rash & try to keep it as dry as you can....Beardog

  20. I am on a prescription medication not legal in Thailand .. it is available in many Thai pharmacies under the counter (Chinese brand at a HUGE markup)

I get my blood work ordered by my endocrinologist at Bumrungrad & my US doc accepts .. huge savings!

lab work is so inexpensive at Bumrungrad that I get 'several pages' of exotic specialty lab tests done .. for 1 test my blood must be overnighted to Singapore, as Bumrungrad does not have the equipment.

My US doc loves the medical records I bring to him, he is from the Philippines.

My prescription med is valid, is widely used & based on extensive lab work .. I provide far more medical records / labs / tests than the FDA / AMA requires ..

    QUESTION:

can a retiree bring in his personal valid prescription medications in to the Realm .. I'd gladly jump through any hoops the government might realistically present.

    &

can I have meds shipped from a US pharmacy into the realm.

or I could easily bring a 6 months ( or 12 months) supply with me... 12 months of meds would fit in a large FedEx envelope.

You should be fine I brought over vicodin percocet lorecet for my back & they never even checked. I doubt if they even know what anythingfrom America is anyway. I brought from Sanfrancisco

  22. you cannot obtain narcotics outside hospitals -period.

your only solution is to smuggle them from cambo on a visa run. i think if you have a script them you will be fine even if questioned.

ive known many people to both become addicted and build high tolerance to vicodan. its basically heroin and paracetamol

if you really have such pain problems that need to be monitored by a proper physician, the third world is perhaps not for you.

cambodia is teh only country in asia where you MAY be able to buy narcotics AND.... they will question you - the candystoer thing is long gone. last year i sprained my ankle and the chemist would only sell mg code 16mg. i was ok laying down but had to make run for border next day. so cant even count on that.

i think ONLY way is to bring full medical records to hospital (BKKPTY) and get a doc there and get it all in order -but no way they are going to give you vicodan ES 30x per month.

i personally think if you are taking vicodan 750 a day, youre already addicted.

ps: im not making moral judgements on you, injury or even drugs.
