  1. I know this topic has been covered many times before but what seems apparent to me is that TMB haven't been updating their dynamic currency conversion rates to keep it in line with the slightly weakening THB, I've just pulled out 30,000 from one of their ATMs in Pattaya and they offered to convert that to AUD for $1620, I declined of course and took the THB option. The auth on my card is for AUD $1353, it may not settle for exactly that but it's a huge margin so keep vigilant if you are using their machines.

  2. I've never smoked but this thread caught my interest as on my walks around Pattaya during these covid times I've tried paying attention to what little is going on around me, and one thing I'd been saying to myself a lot as I walked past a smoker - "Damn those Thai cigarettes smell rough". I can't remember thinking that in the past. But then maybe that was in the days of having better things to think about ????

  3. It fascinates me how "ex-pats" living here can get themselves into situations like this. Hope it's a bridge I never cross. I'd be worried about the immigration angle, who knows if that may one day bite. Only time I did something remotely close was in my 20's when I left a country and broke a rental lease, I had tried to talk to them about it, no dice. But still I left it clean and tidy and popped the keys in the admin mail slot on my way to the airport. Suppose I justified it in the same way that the big bad banks so horribly treated old mate by lending him an unsecured 1M ????

.......And unconditional love is the right love. Loving someone just because they do or give you something is conditional, and it doesn't last.......

Almost all love is conditional, except maybe a mother's love for her child. My ex told me for years that she loved me unconditionally. Well that changed when she found out I was seeking horizontal satisfaction on the side ????. Bar steward that I am.

Seriously you can't figure out why there is a travel ban in oz?

I guess I thought it was a place full of independent bugga's with a healthy disregard for being told what to do and how to live their lives. How times have changed. And while it's no better here I didn't think Oz was under military rule. Clearly you are happy being told how to live your life so hope you stay there and enjoy the reestablishment of the penal colony

  6. I've lived and worked in many countries around the world, always enjoyed them but it's hard to pick a stand out period for the best time of my life. One things for certain though, the best nights of my life have been in Bangers and Patts ????

I was thinking about heading down to Pattaya (Jomtien) for a few days R&R when the internal travel restrictions end next Sunday. After reading you report, I don't think I'll bother. Doesn't sound like much fun, but all the best Pattaya, hope you make it through the crisis.

Yeah save your money unless you like peace and quiet, are happy drinking in your room, and only want to look at the sand as it's full of covid so the govt is protecting us from that danger ????

  8. It still does my head in that Aussies are essentially unable to leave their country, a basic right for a developed nation I would have thought. Thank fudge I got out with literally days to spare, I'm not going back this year even if they stop the mandatory quarantine, don't wanna risk getting stuck there, it's a nice place but I'm bored there, sorry to my kids (but they are adults). And in future my travel bookings will be a max of 2 months out, to try and minimise "travel credit" risk. End of vent.

    Maybe you think too much...

Personally I basically don't give a <deleted> if anybody thinks they have to look for whatever reason. If I walked around with a pretty young girl some looked. Who cares? If they don't like my shirt or my bike or my look or whatever, who cares?

Agree. I let my GF drive before I got my motorbike license sorted, and now if I'm drunk and she isn't, but didn't really give a toss what others thought. Just own it. But I do draw the line at putting my arms around her waist during, the rear bar it is, maybe I think too much ????

Multiply the cost of a two week vacation by 26, then multiply that by how many years you have left. If you have that much money in the bank (wherever) then I say go for it. Otherwise you'll be old, lonely and poor before your time.

I get your point but respectfully suggest that it's not going to be possible for most people to repeat the intensity of a 2 week trip for a full year. For starters you'd probably have a condo vs a hotel, so money saved there, and you'd probably fit in more "rest days", if for no other reason than recovery. Having said that if he was the type to send money for sick buffalo then maybe it would be the same as a year of 2 week'ers ????

  11. I'm definitely in the open things up camp. Everything. A couple of posters on this thread said if you feel at risk then stay in your room, keep doing what you do now, I agree. Most of us came to Thailand because we like that it's a bit crazy and a lot of stuff is anything but nanny state, it pains me that right now it's "officially" more locked down than many true nanny states, so the sooner it goes back to the free market Thailand that I love the better. Could be a while yes but I live in hope. Cue the bitter old scared geezers who are gonna yap me, whatever.

  12. I pulled out 30000 yesterday from a TMB machine in Patts. They add a 220 fee. Just make sure you select "don't convert currency" (into your home currency), as for that "convenience" it will cost you at least 5% of the withdrawal amount, they say it on the screen if you read the garb. Your home bank will obviously convert the currency in any case.

  13. After splitting with the missus in Oz where we had 374sqm I found it a bit of a squeeze in Patts to go to a 35sqm 1 bdrm condo, so upgraded to 53sqm which obviously was better but still felt a bit tight. Now in 83sqm 2bdrm 2bath, just me and the Thai GF. Love it, especially the large balcony which I use daily. Each to their own but if you enjoy less space then good for you, money for other fun.

  14. This is insane. There's sweet FA people left in Patts, nothing much open, almost no-one can enter the country, well tourists at least. And I thought Oz was the nanny state. Crossing between provinces I can understand a health check or checking that you have a valid reason, but preventing travel in and out of such a small geographical area, crazy.

  15. Yeah this is a tricky one. I'm in my early 50's and had rentals for years in NZ and Oz. Managed them myself as I thought no-one can do a better job and have more interest in them than myself. I had 2 bad tenants in 20 year's, never did monthly rents. I always try and take care of places I rent also as well as looked after rentals I owned. Unfortunately other people don't have the respect for others property that most people reading this topic would have. I sold them all off and I can't tell you how much more relaxed I am. Of course seperating from the wife and moving to Thailand helped too. Get out of renting is my advice unless you are in a very high capital growth area.

  16. I've been on these tablets (25mg) for about 7 months now and am due to see my dermatologist when next back in Australia in March. Only side effect I've noticed is dry lips. Have had blood tests. I'm a little short on supply until I'm back so I wondered if anyone has found a cheapish source for these? I've been to a number of pharmacies and the only place that has said yes they have them is the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, but at 210 baht per tablet it's definitely on the steeper side. Can anyone help? And FYI in my case it is to help manage Grover's disease so please don't suggest an alternative. Cheers
