  1. Hello,

I live in Chiang Mai, I enjoy going out and hitting the bars and clubs atleast once a week. Often my friends are not available to join me due to being in relationships. As i am young(25), I would like to enjoy this stage of my life and get out there more. It would be cool to know a few more people who were interested in going out and trying their luck with the hot looking women that are so abundent here in CM. Let me know if you are keen(Pref somone between 18 - 35).

Hot girls like wingbeans, take some of those instead - weirdo! :o

  2. Not sure if it's the same store - but there's a new-ish one opened at ground level next to the Mahidol Road (Airport Plaza) Rimping.

It's not the same store. The wine store you are thinking of is called Wine Collection. I would add, though, that it is not only new-ish, but good-ish too.

or is it - The Wine Connection?

  3. Thanks - do you remember whether it was the red/brown stuff that crumbles easily or the hard white/grey stuff?

I've found the red/brown volcanic stone but it's not really pumice as i know it. I would still like to get the hard grey/white type that people would use to remove hard skin.

I'm not too familiar with Warorot market ( it's big ) can you let me know roughly where to look. I'm guessing this has the correct type from what's been written.

I don't know the 20baht market either, is that the place next to the Chinese embassy?

    Thanks again

    Sledge.

  4. I'm looking for pumice stone, has anyone seen it anywhere? initially a little bit but possible a lot in the future.. Any information would be helpful. Has anyone seen it in beauty salons or at the supermarket for removal of hard skin? This would suffice for the time being as a sample.

Also looking for paraffin. I have found the wax version and an odorless liquid that's supposed to be paraffin.

The type I'm looking for is more oily. The type that would be used in lamps, I'm no expert but I think in the States you would call it kerosene. Can't be hard to find but is when you don't know where to look !

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards

    Sledge

  5. Hello, Does anyone else have any advice they can give me or recommendations with regards to a squint in a 2year 3 month old baby.

I think my daughter needs to see a specialist and I would like to get two or three opinions from the best eye doctors in Chiang Mai. We went to Ram 1 and were given the run around. One doctor said she had a squint the other said she didn't.

If anyone can give me any more information I would be very grateful. Ideally more specific directions to the building stated within this thread, any other experiences with this place, specific doctor I should as for? The name of the building etc.

Or any other places I should take her to. There must be other eye specialist hospitals in CM?

In fact any general experiences with squints or lazy eye in babies would be great as I know very little about it. From what I have read they seem easy to treat but if anyone has any first hand experience I would like to hear from them, here or via PM.

    Kind regards

    Sledge

  6. On my website I have a map that’s show location of the property we have for sale and rent, for that I have added locations of International Schools here in Chiang Mai, but I’m not sure I have all of them, the one I have is:

    Prem International School

    Nakornpayap International School

    Chiang Mai International School

    American Pacific International School

    Grace International School

    Lanna International School

    Chiangmai Christian German School

Does anyone know if there is more than theses 7 International schools in Chiang Mai, then I would like to have information about location and if possible there website, to see the locations of the schools I already have, look at the map http://www.houseinchiangmai.net/map_Office.asp

    /Claus Christensen

You mean your trying to generate traffic to your website to boost it's rankings in search engines... Oh please.

  7. The word 'Pommy' originates from the Pomegranates the English sailors ate to ward off scurvy, the illness caused by a lack of ablutions for which the Poms are well known.

Can I suggest that you replace the "N" of your avatar name with a "P" :o

  8. I know every expat, retiree, tourist, backpacker, worthless individual and English teacher in Chiang Mai is very interested in finding yet another house to rent. Or perhaps a cheap hotel to stay. Or where to buy a can of baked beans. Or any other load of very interesting stuff that has been posted on this forum over the past few days........but what the farks the matter with you lot?

Yesterday Chas and Rachel from Tuskers opened this topic about a very worthy establishment and a fundraising evening at Tuskers for Croston House Childrens Home.

It staggers me that there have only been 2 responses to this thread and yet there have dozens to all the other less than important threads on Thai Visa Chiang Mai Forum.

I will be there to support the evening and have every intention of parting with at least 3,000 baht on the night. I'll be happy to buy anyone who turns up and asks for Blinky Bill a beer or tequila.

C'mon, support the night. Tuskers is a Thai Visa sponsor and host to the past 2 free Thai Visa BBQ's (hangovers). There might even be another free night out in the future.

Schoolboy error.. If they had named the thread "feed the kiddies" it would probably have had 7 or more pages by now, perhaps even with offers for sterilization, de-worming and the rest :o

I hope the evening is a success and that kiddies and kitties prosper from your efforts!!

  9. Friend stays in one in K9; management seems pretty good - but they are still expanding that one.

Where is K12?? Can you let us know pricing??

Highway number 1317 to Sankampang, Moo Ban is near the third ring road. Only about 10 mins from airport plaza.

The house I'm looking at is 388 SQM, 5 bed, 5 bath, price 5.89 million. That price includes a standard 125 SQM plot so I will probably pay nearer to 7 million to get a larger plot. Plot upgrades are a very steep 14,500 per square metre. The show house looks very impressive.

    Cheers...

Do you really want to live in a moo baan? 5.5M will get you a lovely house with pool on 1600 or 3200 suare metres, of course you have to build it but that's no problem !

  10. It may sound like a stupid question but is there such a thing as a 'spade/shovel' enthusiaist magazine?

    http://wordpress.com/tag/spade-magazine/

Very disappointing - not a spade in sight.

I found a Spade Magazine website

    http://www.spademagazine.ca/

but it's all about interior design!!!

Maybe, you didn't see my previous posts but I must tell you I'm married and I'm not that way inclined.

    Don't take it personally.

I'm looking for a new hoe, the one at home is very dirty but old and over used now. Anyone seen any good hoes in town? I'm willing to spend up to 3k but it would need to be a professional one that could potentially stay with me a long time..

    Any help appreciated :o

  11. At least we're off pizza and burgers, for the moment.

    Croissants?

You guys surprise me....next you will be discussing the vagaries of pate, and nuances of Puligny Montrachet... :D

I would like to do one on the best cre'me brulee in town, but I'm not sure that there is any. The Duke's and The House both had it at one time, but claimed that too few people knew what it was. :o

Cre'me brulee? What's that then? or do you mean Crème brûlée? :D

  12. it automatically assumes that ALL thai people are possibly poorer than ALL foreigners, so the foreigners therefore somehow subsidise the Thais

    That is your assumption.

Dual pricing is often based on the concept that residents have paid for the facilities and maintenance with their taxes. Since foreigners have not made those payments for generations, they are charged more. It is practiced in many countries including developed ones.

I have no problem with the national park fees because a Thai drivers license usually equalizes them.

What really makes me lots of other expats angry is that we do not get 30 baht health care like the Thais. Doesn't that really piss you off too?

But arent countries supposed to promote tourism.. what message does that send.?.. Be man and accept it for what it is, a blatant discriminatory cash-grab... Tell me about the other countries that do this practice.

At home OAP's and children enjoy subsidized pricing, that's p#ssed me off for years :o Also it's 900% and what's that amongst friends....

  13. for a minute, i thought the topic referred to an accident this morning at Mahidol Road. Cause a massive traffic jam. Truck carrying crates of coca-cola bottles crashed on its side and completely shut off the access to the bridge going over the Palm Spring mooban U-turn area. probably overloaded the old truck.

    That's much more interesting :o

  14. Gai is lovely - Tuskers is lucky to have her as the rest of the fine staff there. :o Wish her Happy Bday for me.

I second the motion! Unfortunately I'll be out of the country by Wednesday, otherwise I would definitely have been there.

    / Priceless

Another good reason to go :D

  15. Since I'm a steak lover eating a 300 gram tenderloin 4 times a week, I've checked the TOP'S website, and fell of my chair !

They give promotion prices for US beef ranging from 3500 - 3800 Baht per Kg. ?????

Is this a printing fault, or are they going bananas? This is more then 3 times the price than Norway, which is the most expensive country in Europe.

So if I want to keep my eating habits in Chiang Mai I have to spend between 16.000 - 18.000 Baht per month, Only for the steaks?

Are there other local butchers in CM which have good products for a reasonable price?

Maybe I'm loosing it but I'm sure good cuts like imported tenderloin / filet mignon are no more than 1000 Baht a kilo.. With local cuts a fraction of the price.

The price depends on where the meat comes from and what type of meat

mmmm, wise words :D Bit like most things then :o

  16. Can anyone recommend where to buy teak or hardwood outdoor furniture in Phuket. A round table with chairs to go in a sala and to seat 8-10 people. Ideally a place with a website as I want to order here in chiang mai and have it delivered on the island.

    Any help appreciated.

    Sledge.

  18. I think I will try Farang Ses. I will also stay there the night as it looks/sounds beautiful.

Thanks guys for the help and I will try all of your suggestions over the next month to decide myself where is 'my' favourite

For a suggestion of my own I'm not sure if you guys know of the 'Tea Room' along the river just past Good View.. Big pink building. Great to go there for tea in the afternoon (when the weather is good). Im not sure if its well known but of the few places I have found already and really enjoyed this is one.

Good luck with Farang Ses, It's been closed for 3 months and doesn't open till September. Give them a call to confirm but thats what they told me when I tried to book a month or two ago. Major renovations I believe. We ended up going to Le Crystal which was pretty good but we were practically the only people in there, so that felt a bit strange.

I think the Thai restaurant at the Mandarin is very good but others have disagreed in the past.

Has anyone been to the four seasons ? Is that worth a visit ?

  19. I have a 40GB Apple iTV for sale, brand spanking only opened the box once new. Retail out at 13000 THB

open to offers, can deliver within Chiang Mai

    PM me please

    Why are you selling it?

I'm guessing that he doesn't need or want it anymore! Just a hunch...

  20. Can you tell us why they wouldn't sell you a car? Because if your immigration paperwork isn't in order, none of them will sell to a foreigner, in my experience.

I'm also curious as to what issue he had with them. When I went I had no problems at all with getting a sales person to discuss with me all the issues on financing. They spent a lot of time answering my questions regarding models/options. On the other hand, both Toyota dealers I went to didn't seem interested in assisting me.

No problems with the paperwork, the car is for my wife, in her ( Thai ) name. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, the lady that dealt with us seemed half asleep and not very enthusiastic to take our cash. In the past when I've bought cars the salespeople are fast to offer incentives such as free insurance, body kits, film, tax, registration etc etc. Or at least something to try and get you to commit. They are also usually awake and enthusiastic about trying to sell a car. She just offered the sticker price with a 2 month wait to get the car and then yawned.

I also went to Honda on the mae rim road, they have the car and spec we want but again no incentives or discounts to try and make me part with my money. Maybe this is just Honda policy? Does anyone know?

  21. Honda Dealer One > head east out of the city and cross Narawat Bridge onto ChareonMaung Rd towards the SuperHwy > take a right at the SuperHwy and the Honda Dealer will be on your left well before BigC. Do not enter the SuperHwy.

Honda Dealer Two > head north out of the city towards MaeRim on ChangPauk Rd/107 > pass the SuperHwy > pass City Hall/Ring 1 > pass the military battalion > look for the big Honda sign on your right > make a safe U-turn.

The attached maps will give you a rough idea.

Had nice, efficient service at both dealers. Never been to the one in HangDong.

Marvellous, Thank you very much :o

  22. Hello, I am aware of the dealer on the hang dong road, they don't seem to want to sell me a car! Can anyone please tell me where the other dealers are located. I looked at Honda's website but from the address and map they show I can't work out where exactly the other two are. If anyone knows and can tell me that would be great. I don't know the CM - Pang road!? The other one looks like it's on the lamphun road which should be easy enough for me to find.

    Regards

    Iain

  23. A quick note on pies I think CM needs some good pies as i ate a steak and kidney one at the CM saloon and my mate had the chicken mushroom the other day and it was terribly BAD, so you do have a market there that needs improving

Its a littel too far for me to go but next time I am out that way i will pick up a pack, not used to paying such a high price for a kilo but if they are as good as they say then ok.

weird... Could of sworn I just wrote a reply to this?!?
