The only answer is for the airline to be sold to an experienced foreign group. They’d turn it around within a year and it would become profitable.

Of course, that would never happen as it would it would expose the systematic corruption and cronyism rooted in the airline, which no sensible business group would tolerate and immediately set out ending.

Plus, the loss of face would be too much to bear to have foreigners running their national airline.

I think they won't do that because it's national carrier airline. Not many country want to lose their national carrier airline. It's the same with MAS, Garuda, PAL, etc.

Let's look at the facts, Thailand has possibly the largest Chinese tourists in the world from December to Mid March before the lockdown in Thailand.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Thailand#Top_25_arrivals_by_nationality

So do you see Thailand having the largest infected cases in the world from this list below compared to countries with low Chinese tourist numbers ? History speaks for itself.

I feel your pain. Some people are racist no matter what.

The chinese are the ones that for the world into this situation in the first place. They should be the last ones anybody would want to do business with. Plus they only do business with Chinese owned hotels, restaurants, shops, buses and airlines. So the local Thai business do not benefit one bit.

That's not true if they only do business with Chinese owned hotels. Even if that's true, Chinese owned hotels also employ Thai people so Thai people also benefits from Chinese investments.

I think kids under 30 don't care, feel immune, and they usually don't have kids or think too deeply about mortality.

if older than 60, depends.  if single, keep it closed.  if they have kids who are financially suffering due to covid, open it up.  depends again

if government worker, close it forever

if business worker, open it forever

    if student, whatever...pass the weed

if mother, probably keep it closed and do everything for longer

    so it depends i think

i say open it up AFTER China pays us each 1 TRILLION.....if you pay me, i'll be a sheep.

Then close it forever because no way China will pay.

Very good point. For way too many people their religion provides some false sense of solace and comfort, but it can turn out to be a true wolf in sheep's clothing.

Some historians argue that one of the principal reasons why the plague ("Black Death") swiped through Europe at such an astonishing rate in the middle ages was because people frequently gathered in churches, praying to "God" to save them. It had exactly the opposite effect, of course, as worshipers - unknowingly - infected one another, carrying the disease back home to their families. And what they also didn't consider was that it was "God" himself who created and unleashed that disease...  if you believe that such a supernatural entity exists at all.

Now fast forward a few centuries and realize that nothing much has changed. People still tend to flock to their church, temple, mosque or whatever, hoping to find some redemption there, endangering themselves and their families in the process.

Even the Pope, the alleged "Representative of God on Earth" (what arrogance!) held a prayer to ask "God" for relief from Covid-19. Although he really should know better where that virus came from in the first place!

Please don't degrade Pope. You are not helping with that. What's wrong with pray to God. You may not believe in God but other people do. Please respect that. It's not as if Pope ask people to gather for mass prayer. It has been online for some time.

right. The US has a desire to destroy is economy and kill  thousands of its people.

Think again that China, Russia anjd Cuba are doing ok while the rest of the world is weakened.

With the same logic, I can also say yes the virus is from China because China wants to destroy her own economy and kill its own citizens. What do you think would happen if China were not able to contain the virus ?! Will you still say that China doing okay ?!

Only with many sacrifices and extreme shutdown, China were able to contain the virus. This is what you call "American" strategy backfired. Personally I believe this is not from USA government or USA citizens, but more like "shadowy" people from USA who doesn't care to kill whomever they want to achieve their goals.

I'm not Trump's friend but the gentleman is right, it is correctly labelled the "Chinese Virus". Nobody has the guts to call it by its name but H1N1, H5N1 and SARS, together with the Corona/Covid-19 virus all came from ......... China.

Turning into a political correctness discussion is as stupid as the question by the responsible reporter. It originated in China!

What else should it be called, the non-American-across-the-Pacific-originating-virus-not-from-Japan-the Koreas-but-North/Northeast-from-the Socialist Republic of Vietnam?

Total nonsense, time wasting and irrelevant to the fight against the pandemic!

    Pretty racism over there.

Because they really don't have much of a choice on ending up in harms way at times, and, by that action try to save civilian lives and possibly lose theirs in the process.

If you think that's not worth thanking them then that's your decision.

I don't think that's what he means. Actually I have the same question too. Why not giving both military and civilian the same treatment !? And Thai wonder why less and less tourist come here.

  10. I wonder what makes Thai household debt so high. I mean second highest in Asia. It's really something.

The irony is when some tourist say that price is expensive in Thailand. Some people (I guess local Thai) defend by saying that bill is cheaper in Thai than western country (don't know how to argue with this logic).

    No offense to Thai people.

Yes, weaker baht but lesser Chinese tourist.

Top 5 ranking by countries in 2019

    1. China 11 million

    2. Malaysia 4 million

    3. India 2 million

    4. South Korea 1.9 million

    5. Laos 1.8 million

So you see how important Chinese tourists are

Yes that's why I said it is without bonus. The goal is to lure tourist to become cash cow for Thailand (otherwise, no need to charge expat and tourist several times more than local). Maybe this is karma for how Thai gov treat tourist and expat (specifically) all this time.
