That’s bizarre. We didn’t talk to a single soul at IO. Just took a photo and left. All the other paperwork was done at the bank branch. Just another layer of useless bureaucracy.

I did my own extension of stay at Jomtien on 8 September. The immigration officer took my photo on his mobile, as another IO did last year & the year before that. So it's not new but I don't know what it's for.

Hi i am moving to Pattaya in November and wondering which is the better school for a 4 yr old,i understand there are international school that are 10 times better, but will only be there for a couple of years.

Depending upon where you are going to live, we sent our 3 year old to Maryvit Education Cente in Na Kluae. He is now 9 & still there. We are very happy with the education & care of their students.

If you smile at people in Thailand they think you are friendly. In the west they think you are creepy if at woman and gay if at man. The west isnt a friendly place anymore.

    It's a different world.

Not my experience of living in Australia for 48 years

Was useful for me multiple times at the DLT e.g.

Always entertaining to read about the hassle to get a residence certificate at some offices.

Talking of Certificate of Residence, we wanted to sell one of our cars to another family in our housing estate. They are Chinese & told us that Immigration told them that they will no longer issue said certicates to Chinese citizens!??

They ended up using an 'agent' who charged 1,500 baht instead of the 300 baht that immigration normally charge, apparently (it used to be FOC).

This is a blatant example of racial discrimination IMHO!!!

I am going through the process of planning a new house build on my wife's farm land up country.

I have already prepared plans and elevations of our preferred house design in AutoCAD and am currently fine tuning details. The land is currently being filled and raised approx. 1.5 metres above original level. I anticipate leaving it to rest and bed down for the remainder of the year, and start construction in January next year.

I want this to be a reasonably passive house, so double glazed uPVC windows and sliding doors are being considered. An on-grid hybrid solar system will be added once construction is complete.

I am considering the following components for the external walls: Q-CON AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) blocks (150mm thk),

    1048200424_Q-CONAACBlocks.JPG.4176c36b804534404e7ac6038b375fd4.JPG

with an SCG Heat Reflector sheet lining,

    542171808_SCGHeatReflector.JPG.e7552f294c8a22b89280992b4175c3ed.JPG

with 50mm thk fire retardant grade polystyrene sheets,

    871066885_Polystyrenesheet.JPG.f72619575b7c8904e11a526e26465aa6.JPG

then 8mm thk SCG Smartboard drywall. The polystyrene sheets will fit between the galvanized frame members.

    2017844251_SCGSmartboardDrywallInstallation.JPG.eb702eea500bf21da9384b9d37112f74.JPG

Cement rendering followed by paint on the outside, and just a painted finish on the inside.

    What do you think?

As a retired commercial builder from Aust your ropsed construction methods appear to be sound.

My major concern would be with 1.5M of filling material. We gave filled land in Khon Kaen about that depth with good fine grained soil. We propose to leave it at least three wet seasons before building anything on it. It appears that Thais rely on the rain to compact the earth as opposed to mechanical compaction in 300mm layers which is normal in WA.

Your proposed construction will be in vain if you don't have a sound foundation.

It's difficult to see the front entrance in that photo,  however the owner is obviously selling a building that has been destroyed by fire including the land that it sits on which is probably quite valuable.

As for the 60 employees,  that I suspect is the total number of employees from bar staff, waiters,  stage group, doorman, cleaners, and others .... and obviously they all work different shifts.

I hope you and others can understand this.

It would seem to me that you didn't fully understand the article. It is the restaurant at the front of the night club that is for sale & in the photograph.

Legally, you were in the wrong.

In actuality, she is stupid !!!...

When riding, if a car has stopped for no apparent reason, I also stop.

meanwhile others scream through only to discover why the car has stopped - a pedestrian crossing or someone turning across them... I’ve seen numerous accidents this way.

It seems to me that in Thailand more than any other places I’ve riden or driven that there is a huge reluctance to stop or slow for anything - this results in the inevitable.

But.. ultimately, even IF the vehicle has allowed you to pass in front of them, and even IF when riding defensively it would be sensible for the other motorcyclist to stop the right of way remains theirs and in the event of an accident you would be at fault.

Realistically - this lady would have had no idea that she was riding carelessly... she would think that the blame is 100% with you, the thought wouldn’t cross her mind for a millisecond that she could have avoided and accident by riding more carefully - thats just how many riders in Thailand are, everyone else has to watch out for them.

And of course the old Thai adage " it is always Farangs fault as if they come to Thailand accident not happen"

    Strange but true comment.

It confuses me why people become negative living in Thailand. I see so many sad, negative foreigners, everyday.

How is it possible, maybe these negative people were born negative or they haven't managed their lifestyle, failed marriage, losing wealth due to failed business etc., what's going on.

Thailand has been my home for over 20 years, I've never been a negative person, my positive attitude grows every day, I'm a very lucky guy to have the opportunity to live in this beautiful country.

I agree with you. I think some people Lohengrin to be negative about their surroundings in whichever country they live in. I myself am also a very lucky man. I have a wonderful wife & two great young boys (total of four great sons). I moved from Australia to Thailand six years ago & have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

    Totally agree.

Not only the necessary letter and statements for immigration, but getting a new passbook.....which I have to do this week because the pathetically small one they provide very quickly fills up !

Will have to stop doing updates !

Both my "local" BB and SCB branches have closed during Covid.

One space now occupied by a Watson and the other a Starbucks.

That local BB branch was 5 minutes from home.

Now the nearest big Center is a 20 minute drive.

Finally, I still withdraw my Oz pension# from a BB atm and deposit it into a CDM alongside.

Think I'll have to look at opening a Wise account and use that to transfer to my BB account here.

    # Oz pension (Superannuation) will only pay it into an Oz bank !

That is good for you as you can use Wise as I do & get a lot better rate than an Oz bank

Yes, more expensive. At least 10-20% across the board. If a coke is 20 baht in pattaya 7/11, it will be 22-25 in Phuket. All those little 10-20%s add up.

I didn't notice that much until I went there with Thai wife and she started pointing out the differences. 2 years later she still talks about MK "Gold" restaurant, which is basically MK restaurant with a premium price tag.

And the food in MK Gold isn't as good as it is in normal MK restaurants in Pattaya

So it takes 15 minutes instead of 5 to get from Nakula/Sukhumvit to Pattaya Tai/Sukhumvit?  Boo Hoo...555.  Try living in BKK where it takes hours to get from one side to the other.

No thank you! The best thing about BKK is the road south back to Pattaya. BKK is far too busy for me thank you

The OP isn't aware that, although an employee of a store may have a badge on saying they are working for that store, they are in fact employed there by a manufacturer, and that is why they push and push a particular product. My wife and I were looking at a product once and a 'shopper' complete with shopping bag got involved insisting on one particular and expensive model. She was such a bad actress it couldn't have been more obvious that she had been planted there.

We were buying another product one time and the salesman was good and we were convinced. "We'll take it", we said. "Sorry, out of stock". He spent a good 10 minutes 'selling' us something we were unable to buy. Brain dead. And I've lost count of the times I've seen something on display and wanted to buy it, only to be told it's out of stock. I've also lost count of the times I've asked why they don't sell the display model and just get the stupid Thai grin. And why display something to sell if you don't it have anyway? Another time I tried to buy a phone but it was locked in a display case and no-one had the key.

All in all. I've probably saved a return air fare to Europe not being able to buy something that is front of me. And can anyone tell me if other countries have price check machines scattered around supermarkets like they do here? If that isn't an admission that the store doesn't really know what it's doing and the price on display might not be the sale price then I don't know what does.

It's taken me awhile to work out that a lot of promotional products are displayed with signs that say "FROM" 299 Baht in Thai but there are also a lot of product in the same display that are a lot more expensive than the displayed price.
