  1. I bought a cheap electic lawn mower about 1,5 years ago. Well, that was a stupid investment.

The cable drove me crazy, especially since my lawn is not one big area but goes around the house. It was overheating quickly, I could never finish the job all at once but had to let the mower cooling down. Furthermore, the 35 Liter grass Box was too small. It was a EUROE ELM1500 1500W ELECTRIC LAWN MOWER (Link).

Thankfully, it went on the fritz yesterday so now I have to buy a new mower ????

This time I want a petrol one. Thing is, I don't know anything about petrol mowers and would like to get some opinions before buying.

The lawn is about 200 square meters. A quick search on Homepro led me to this mower: GASOLINE LAWN MOWER HYUNDAI HGLM-18 7.5HP (Link)

Will it do the job? Are Hyundai Mowers any good? Any other recommendations in this price class (please not more than THB 20,000)?

    THANK YOU!

  2. I wonder if anyone here also had this experience:

About 3 weeks ago I received a call. I speak Thai but not 100% fluent. What I understood is that my current car insurance is calling me aking if I want to continue the insurance. My current policy ends in 2 months with no automatic renewal.
The lady on the phone sounded very professional. She said hello Mr Kurt XX, calling regarding your car insurance for your car Honda XX, license plate XX, registered in XX.
Knowing all my details I didn't even doubt for a second that this was not my insurance. However, I never ever do Deals on the phone so I told her I will gladly come to see here in the Office like last year and ask her kindly to prepare the details.
From that moment on the situation became weird. She clearly did not want me to come to the office but I did not understand what she said exactly as my Thai is not good enough. She coudn't speak english at all.
I gave here the number of my girlfriend and and told here to call her.

A few days later she called my girlfriend. I already knew that something is not right so I prepared my girlfriend with some questions. First I wanted to know if this is my car insurance company? No clear answer, after digging deeper we knew she was not calling from my current car insurance but she tried to act like that very hard.
Thing is, she didn't knew the name of my car insurer. She then claimed several times that she is calling from "big Honda company in Bangkok".

We told her that we are not interested and asked her to not call again. Since then she called several times, always my girlfriend, never me. But asked for me on my girldfriends phone. Well, not so professional anymore.
After the annoying calls didn't stop we changed our language to make them understand to not call again. We also asked where they got my date from, answer: "big Honda company in Bangkok".

I called my car dealer in Bangkok and told him about this. He said he has no idea who that was but for sure it was not my insurer and it was not Honda.

Please note that this was not one of those car insurance scam calls common in Thailand. Those are "cold calls" and they usually don't have much information about you.
But in this calls they knew everything. Name, address, license plate and phone number. But they did not know the name of my actual insurer.

Another note: Neither Honda nor my car insurer know the adress where I registered my car. This is because I moved between the date when I ordered the car including insurance and the date when I registered the car. (I registered the car by myself, Honda and the insurer do not even know in which province I finally registered my car - but the caller knew!)

Where did the caller get my data from? Data leak at the Department of Land Transport? Anyone with a similar experience?

  3. I read so many news, so many statements and interviews from government officials every day about travel restrictions due to covid 19. And still I am totally confused and and I have no idea what is just bla bla and what is for real.

to cut a long story short: Did anyone travel from Bangkok to Pattaya by car within the last 48 hours and have there been any checkpoints? if yes, did they check for a travel document from your local government or did they just do a fever check?

I live near Bangkok but I have an important doctors appointment in Pattaya tomorrow. Not sure if I should go or better postpone.

Will try it on my Samsung OS web browser later.

that would be great. please let me know, thanks!

For me it looks like HBO Go is blocking it's content on Smart TV's on purpose (in Thailand). When I mirror my phone I can do everything. Mirror all Apps, Fotos and Video. I'm even able to mirror the menu of the HBO Go App. But as soon as I click the "play" button the screen goes black. This is no coincidence!

so it looks more as if you have a wealth of no idea

please drop such comments. this is a forum. If I had an idea I woudn't asking, would I?

If you are such a genius: tell me why the browser on the Samsung TV doesn't work either? Screen goes black immediately after login

@BritManTooI'm expecting what's advertised and promised by sales. Has nothing to do with money.

  6. I got the HBO Go subscription from 3BB and feel completely fooled.

I was looking forward to watch HBO content on my 75" Samsung TV with home cinema sound system.
Turned out HBO Go Thailand is not available on Samsung Smart TV, on Playstation or any other plattform with a big screen. Also mirroring doesn't work since the screen goes black as soon as you start an episode of a series or a movie (I tried with an mirroring App as well via cable).

Response from 3BB: "watch on your phone".

Any workarounds known so I can watch on my big screen?
I know it's completely stupid to pay for something and then need to use a workaround or VPN to watch but it's too late. I paid 1 year upfront ????

You 90 day report date does not change when you move to a new address.

Your report is still due on July 1st but you do not have to do it since they are not required until after July 31st.

I see. But when a move does not mean a new 90-day report cycle, does that basically mean that I am going to confirm my old address at the 90-day reports? Immigration Logic?

Or do I need TM 47 again for doing the 90-day report for the first time in a new province? And that basically starts the new cycle with the new address.
(90 day report is in my understanding nothing else than confirming your address, this process is not thought trough. Can't find the logic in this process)

  8. Hi,

this is a general question, please ignore the current Covid-19 situation:

Let's say my next appointment for the 90-day report is on 1st July but I moved to another province on 1st June.
Notification for Housemaster for the new place has been done on June 1st.

Is my appointment for the 90-day report still the 1st of July or do I satrt to count again 90 days from my TM30 report aqt the new place?

    thanks!

My bath has two water outlets plus the electrical connection to install a water heater. Never bothered because we never use the bath, only the shower, which also has a water heater installed.

I have the same under my sink, didn't know what it is though.
    Problem solved, thanks mate!

  10. hi there,

I recently moved to a new house. The Bathroom of the Master-Bedroom has a bathtub but there is no warm water.

Pretty easy to solve this problem for a shower by installing a water heater. But what option do I have for a bathtub?
Hoping to get some opinions here but please don't suggest to install a water heater for the shower hose to fill up the bathtub with the shower head ????‍♂️.

By the way: the tap has signs for hot and cold water. When I turn the tab on to "hot", then no water is comming. On "cold" there is full water pressure.
Does this suggest that there are 2 water pipes?

    Picture attached

thanks a lot in advance for your thoughts ????

    Kurt

UPDATE: I just saw that all taps in the Master-Bathroom have a "hot and cold" label (bathrub, shower and the sink). The 3 other Bathrooms doesn't. There must be a reason that there is a different tapware in just one of the bathrooms, right?

  11. Hi,

tomorrow I go to Ubon for the first time.

Saturday Morning I would like to go hiking. Can anyone recommend a beautiful spot in Ubon for hiking?
Can be (should be) a bit challenging and since I have a car it doesn't have to be close to Mueang Ubon.

    thanks!

  12. Hi!

the driveway to my house is full of potholes and unevenness (concrete road).
I would like to let it be fixed with new concrete.

How do I find workers for that? Not sure if a company want to do it, it's very little work.

I know it's cheaper if I buy everthing by myself and pay the workers just for labor. But since I know nothing about contruction work I would like that they cover everything.

    Location: Pattaya Khao Noi

    Thanks for your help!

With a residence certificate it's not possible to register a vehicle in another province.

I'm not sure if it's possible with a yellow book, but i would tend to "not possible".

A Thai can register a vehicle in any province.

    1. I don't think this matters much, if a Thai wants to have a Bangkok plate he can just change the registration to Bangkok after buying it.

    2. I never tried to get a specific number, so no personal experience, but from what i've heard (at least outside of Bangkok) it sounded like the officer at the DLT expects a tip for this service.

    thanks for your reply.

It's not about the license plate. Thais believe that Bangkok residents treat their cars better than people in the provinces.

exactly. Or - if he has a bad day or simply doesn't like you - he just doesn't care at all and ignores your request

  14. Hi,

I found some 10 year+ old posts here on this forum that people were able to register their car in Bangkok with a residence certificate from Chonburi.
Does anyone knows if this is still possible? Or are there other ways?
I live in Chonburi and would like to register my car in Bangkok.

    Reasons:

    1. Everyone keeps telling me it's better to have a Bangkok licence plate (advantage when reselling)
    2. I would like to try to choose my licence plate number. Bangkok has an online service for that. In Chonburi you have to beg the officer that he/she show you the upcoming numbers. (by the way - can anyone share the experience with picking own digits? - not talking about vanity plates which are avaliable by auction. Just interested in picking an upcoming number)

    thanks!

  15. I think I found my car. Good offer from Bangkok. But I have some other questions now.

I just went to Pattaya Immigration for a residence certificate. They refused to give me one. They said I have to buy the car first and I have to show the contract.
    Is that normal?

And what would have happened if I choose the box for Driving licence or sell car?
Is this information later on the actual certificate?
