  1. Also about the Alaska crab place.  been there twice.  Food is delicious.  Plates are massive.   I ate so much crab the first time i went there that i felt drunk without alcohol.   It's a bit pricey, but good food and big plates.  Som Tam is good there too. The plate comes out like 1kg+ . prepare your stomach. It seems like the perfect place for a Chinese tour bus to eat 5000 crabs.   but there are no chinese tour buses passing through these days, so enjoy it in peace while you have the chance.

  2. Plenty of opportunities for cycling and forest type stuff around.  But at night, I would recommend going out for drinks at Cave Bar.   It's quite a friendly open social atmosphere and the only "farang" bar in Ban Tam (the village near the cave).   There's usually a few Thai folks there too other than the owner.   There's also this new place "Tiger Jungle".  Kinda looks like a raggae / hippy style camp near the bypass road.  It was just being built last time I went.   Also, if you are near the cave, try coffee at Chai Cafe.  roasted locally and delicious.

Google doesn't have any pictures of cute girls when I write Cute Swensons girls, nor on any variation of that. Even the Swensons site doesn't have any.

I never saw a Tom in LOS that didn't have a DDG GF. Perhaps I'd have been luckier if I'd been born a Tom.

try searching the Thai spelling for swensen girls  สาวสเวนเซ่น ... but i have to say .. สาวแบงค์กสิกร (kbank).

Yep, Santhitham Plaza bar area right around the corner (no idea what that's like now).

Oxide and T-Bar just along the road, they're still packed out every night.

T-Bar looks alive and well last night.  Oxide changed names to "Hangout" or something similar.  I'm not aware of the details, but I just saw the new signboard.  I also see they they still have a team of nice looking ladies.

  5. For those of you interested in Chiang Mai investing in a future economy that involves innovation (not manufacturing) in Science, Technology, and Engineering ...  Have you heard of NARIT or STeP?   NARIT is National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand.  STeP is northern Science and Technology Park connected to Chiang Mai Uni.  Both places are focusing on higher education and building capabilities and economic opportunity in Thailand that didn't exist before -- especially in the North where many people would prefer to work instead of BKK.

  6. In Chiang Mai, so many of the intersections have the view blocked by walls, signs (both permitted and DIY advertising), or whatever else.  So you can't see if any car or motorcycle is approaching from the right until you are already out in the road.  Especially dangerous when a small soi enters a big road with fast traffic.  The nearest private property has a solid concrete wall all the way out to the road. Then the signs hang out into the motorcycle lane.   If they could set the walls back from the road even 1 meter, many collisions could be avoided.

  7. My bulding has a sign posted on the inside of the front lobby door that says (in more Thai words) "500฿ discount for April" due to difficult economic situations resulting from COVID. Perhaps also the school off term which is usually a bit slower in the city rental rooms.  We shall see next week when the bills are printed. FWIW, I live in a fairly new 4500฿/month room in a building of 60 rooms with only 3 rooms (including mine) occupied by "farangs".  The remaining rooms appear to be Thai people in their 20s-30s.

  8. If you look at Google Maps satellite view, you can very quickly see which neighborhoods are covered in trees and which are full of concrete.  Near the city, i would recommend Chang Khian.  A bit farther out, I like Mae Jo.  Usually go there for cycling.  Also, i think you can find a nice place for less than half of your budget.   Especially if you go as far out of the city as Mae Jo or Mae Rim.   Jetyod / Chang Khian will be a bit more expensive for a proper house because it is so near Chiang Mai University and the city.

  9. Yes, the link i posted is a google map address for Airport Film.  Interestingly enough, the old google street view picture of the storefront shows a sign in english "Airport Film Coating Center", but the new sign that is actually on the building (1 month ago) is only in Thai.   Its just next to the tall PSI satellite sign that you can see from farther away.

I think this is what I've had on my car since new. Now it's peeling off and I need to replace it - can I ask what it cost? I've a feeling it was 10 or 12k many years ago.

Also did you look at other films while there, and was this the no-brainer option?

I did only the front window for 5000 THB (Isuzu D-Max)  The side and back windows already had some Master Cool since I bought the truck.  Keeps the heat out nicely, but it's also a bit dark and reflective - so that type is not appropriate for front windshield.  I didn't look at any other films when I was there because all online research and spec review beforehand led me to choose 3M Crystalline for the best heat rejection in a film that is not dark.
