Just a wild fleeting guess here @hottrader77
....possibly English? Northern right? Didn't by any chance vote Brexit, yes!!!! And non too happy with those immigrants, correct? Ooh I know you so well.Read what you have written here then 5555. -
Now having read all the details in this post, sadly your friend has made all those mistakes that I wanted to warn him of.Some posters have responded with totally accurate and albeit frightening, true representations of how the appalling legal system works here. Our friends in uniform would have taken a nice drink on this, that is a Cert. As it's far too insignificant a case to warrant three years of court appearance. It is also true that the investigating Officer makes the final judgement call, before presenting it to the AGO for prosecution, just like the CPS in England Once it's gone that far the Attorney General is very very reticent towards overturning the need for a prosecution. It's a case of Thai "face" as told to me first hand by a secretary in AGO.Always always at the earliest possible stage seek a settlement, at the first juncture preferable before going down the Station. Don't ever be too proud, or too shy, this is how business is. Even on a murder case.If this fails weigh up your options, before seeking legal counsel, as more often than not the cure is worse than the illness. As the lawyers fees here are astronomical. In my case the Farang whom I d allegedly "assaulted" had evidently weighed on our friends in Brown. He sought a massive pay day, with trumped up injuries and traumas. I had 2 witnesses one independent, who was soon removed after never being contacted for a formal statement by the police. I contact 3-4 lawyers they all wanted nearly as much as the guy trying it on with extortion. This was supported by having the cops on a commission based rate. The compensation sought was 300,000Bt.by the way.End of the day, it took 3-4 court appearances, I pleaded not guilty until the 3rd appearance, when you get to see all the depositions and the Evidence bungle from the AGO, then I was able to see how flimsy the Prosecutions case was, by then I had already written out a letter in Thai to give directly to the Judge. Whom was a very fair decent bloke don't fear these people they know how corrupt it is in Pattaya. I had used the Courts appointed lawyer which is free, from day one. Many Farangs don't believe this. I had pleaded poverty early on in the game, hence using him supported this narrative. The claim was greatly diminished by the fact that the "victim" had damaged my property which he rented and not paid the rent for a month, a point the police had omitted from the file, the serious assault was dropped from what in the UK would be GBH Section 21 - to a much lesser assault, on a plea bargain by myself to accept guilt to this lesser charge. The sum the "victim" sought as compensation was laughed at by the Judge, and he awarded 20,000Bt informing the guy that by accepting this he precluded any further Civil claims against me. Which was a huge relief. I had to pay 5,000Bt fine and was sent away with a suspended 3 month sentence. No other fees or expenses non at all, although I did take the Court appointed lawyer and translator out on the psss to celebrate.True story!!

I would say very unlikely, based on my two experiences here and two convictions. One fairly recently 3 years ago for a more serious act, an assault.I received a paltry fine well worth the crime 555 and a 3 month suspended sentence. No issues at all.But you have to know how to play this out and what pitfalls to avoid. PM me and I ll give you some advice. Good luck and don't stress !

A slight nuance to the earlier post #1 teachers. Whilst I see that TVF and Rooster are doing so in good faith and with compassion, to try and make those of us who might be living under a large rock,(therefore unaware) of these scenarios. But pressuring the current administration and Immigration, not a good move.
Ref Richard Barrow and the TM30 climb down. Just my opinion.
I've lived here a long while and the writing has been on the wall for a large part of the last 10 years, the letters growing larger year after year. But some people choose to ignore this. I feel, as do many Expats we are not so much welcomed, nor tolerated as we once might have felt. Too much shifting sands for my like, ing to warrant investment here. There's a growing Nationalism right the way across the World from US to UK an increasing hostility to foreigners, and immigrants. Thailand is no different.
I see a new "flag" being waved how many of those here will ignore this "writing in the wall" - it's started with the "Elite Visa" investments, then the enforcement of funds seasoning in Thai banks for Non O visa applicants. Then the STV and more recently the starkly frightening requirement of 3MilBt deposit in Govt Bonds or bank, to return to your own Condo. So on and so.
Only a few days have passed since I read in these very pages that the banks aren't guaranteeing deposits in excess of 1MilBt, after next year, and so too other alarming stories coming out of the financial institutions.
To me it's evident Thailand is financially over stressed and on their way to hell in a hand cart.
Many of these foreigners unable to return or access their accounts might be eyed as easy prey. Those nominee shareholder "shelf" Companies owning land and houses to circumvent property ownership laws, might be low hanging fruit.
Be very cautious don't ever think what happened in Zimbabwe 40 years ago can't be repeated. We re living in perilous times and Chinas current attitude and influence must not be taken too lightly.
Just my thoughts and not in any way professional.

Another mostly irrelevant and venomous rant/lecture with a few insults and wrong assumptions about me thrown in! What a wonderful chap you are. Im so glad not to know you.
"Is it not a nations choice who they let in during a Global Pandemic!?!?" ...
....Yes it is but Thailand is supposedley a Buddhist nation and is totally lacking in the compassion on which their religion is based. Good on you mate you've found the perfect country for you to live in.
Much as I thought a pile of tripe. You couldn't put a constructive retort together. What has religion to do with the politics or immigration requirement? - when dealing with non Thais being allowed into their country from other states where the pandemic is rampant. Buddhism is about tolerance not incompetence, surely. I m an atheist so no idea!!
Thailand isn't a "perfect country" but I m happy with my choice as a second home and to remain here, seems so to might those " Stranded". -

@bkktodd. No I hate golf!!Did you type this response from a Witherspoons in Halifax? What a totally unthought through comment. Enjoying the "Exploitation" of cheap eats and fun. Deary, deary me. Lol.So why me and not you? Because I didn't leave here, was that a rhetorical question you posed?- 1

What does most of your bitterly unsympathetic rant have to do with the situation this poor guy finds himself in? Sweet <deleted> !
@sunsetTWell if you need me to explain this you are either so naively and incredulously ill -informed, or so stupid to be unable to grasp anything that I , or for that matter the ten's of the other TVF members have tried to put over.I ll try again. It's all about planning, and taking note of the various warnings that were well documented at that time. Not "rantings" as you say. But there was official information given out by Embassies and Airlines. I had friends cancel trips in mid March because they weren't stupid, winging it or total chances. But properly committed, retirees with plans, strategies and funds invested here in property etc etc.But no doubt you are one of those foolish, carefree people who don't take notice of things of this order, and that's why you attack my comments. Which by the way, I ve never once debunked, ridiculed, criticized or mocked anyone of these do called "the stranded".However now you have got me on this topic:-Sensationalist alarmist and self- victimizing pap!!SunsetT Define "Stranded" for me please? - as most seem only to be "stranded" in their home countries unable to return to their places of work, temporary residence and /or in legal terms no more than a "holiday home" as anyone in a Non O will agree. As no one other than those very few with a PR status can claim otherwise. Now this thread along with a similar one criticizing Thailand's choices of allowing "Elite Visa" members in over a swathe of other would be applicants. Why?Is it not a nations choice who they let in during a Global Pandemic!?!? After all isn't this exactly what won the Brexit vote? Control over your borders, a Sovereign State!!! Well, isn't Thailand doing just that?Listen, I m no great fan of most of the items this country tries to implement, (nor Brexit) and especially the Immigration issues and requirements. If you had any fkin idea, or if you had spent any considerable time here, you wouldn't need me lecturing you on this.TiT - This is Thailand, their rules! Their country. End of that one, please reply - but I very much doubt you can, nor will.- 1

I m not on a "high horse" just stating the facts. If someone has put all their financial eggs in one basket with no means to withdraw those funds via an ATM or other such means, when outside of Thailand. I see my statement regards no forethought and planning are correct.Try argue that point?- 3

Fair point Barry, and no I wasn't trying to be any financial whizz kid. Rear view mirror predictions are an easy call. The $€£ vs THB were at an all time highs in the early part of 2000s (TomYam Kung 1997 aside) - when non of those events you state were being run out. ie Bangkok burning, the Airports blockaded etc. they came later in the decade, if my memory serves me well.Sterling was artificially high $2.20 as too were many Western currencies until Lehmann Bros. What I was trying to get over is that many many of us thought that those days would go on forever. Many sold up and bought into the "Living the Life in Paradise" - which is fair enough, so long as you can sustain this through thick and thin. Sadly not all of those did so.One could be excused for thinking buying a house makes it your home, that's not true condos aside. The only place that is "home" is somewhere paid for, owned outright in your name and in a country where you are protected and have rights. This IMHO isn't here in Thailand, but only your own native country are you afforded this. Many folks failed to see the changing face on Thailand and the I.O and countless never spread their bets.I retired in my late 40s and lived here 14 years,I have several properties in my own country creating an income plus capital growth, until a year or so I had rental properties here, but sold them off the last one in 2019. I hold investments in equities, corporate bonds and other vehicles plus funds in the bank. I can weather any storm. Not being smug, glib or insensitive. I done my research and covered all possibilities. Many Digital Nomads and quasi/pseudo school teachers etc have come here eyes wide shut.....now they're paying the price.Thse are unprecedented times no one could have foreseen, but after living as a foreigner for 30 years in a few different countries - you must always have a backup plan!!!

It's not only Thailand whom have closed their borders to non citizens, many nations have imposed such restrictions. Some of those are the very same countries as those who are complaining right here of bring "stranded" ie Australia, New Zealand.A fairly reasonable precaution one might add, given the total mess the UK and most of Europe has made of controlling Covid19.What part of "Extension to stay" (as is granted each year to many in Non O) do people not understand? There's no permenant right to reside on these visas. Anyone who intends or plans to settle here must surely do their research in advance, no?To me living here 14 years, there are many "flags" to warn or illustrate the lack of permanency i.e. restrictions of ownership, dual/triple pricing, vocational restrictions.Anyone who has sold up "lock stock" in their home country, thus leaving them with no Exit Plan, nor have sufficient funds to sustain themselves, have not thought this through.Setting up families at 65 years old or more, relying on a State pension and superficially high exchange rates 10-15 years ago, to be now living "day to day" in al out permenant denial of such essentials. Many, many come here on a whimsical fantasy, a dream which all too often turns to a nightmare. No planning, no for thought, no finances. Sad, but all too often the case.

Also lets just focus on the fact that all this is a world away from is here, in Thailand right now. But we re not exclusively immune and there's certainly shhht brewing. Take care and good luck.

John Miller is not a federal employee. He used to be FBI but is now actually employed by the NYPD. So not affiliated with the White House, FBI or any US govt dept. Just New York City Police.
He was a very high ranking journalist before who received nine Emmys and two Peabodys, and was actually they guy who interviewed Osama Ben Laden. Very interesting man.
As for assassination of the US President, the situation is now so overheated that I would not be surprised in the least if one left-wing lunatic shoots the President and then, well then all hell will break loose in the US. It would make this look like a dress rehearsal.
Thank you also, sorry for my ignorance, and I shall have to read more on this man.
However, it seems very clear that what we are witnessing in various stages and events, is the "end of day" for the Ametican empire. A very short lived one, barely 70 years or so. But with little or no doubt it is their final days, as with all empires.
Intresting,y those more recent lasted shorter periods. The British empire ended due the the seismic shifts following two World Wars and, or I would say their inability to supress any longer the blacks, Asians and other ethnics groups - whom had fought so gallantly and bravely, along side their "Imperial Masters".
So. Who's up next???

As far as I know - from what I've read, no this isn't so. Just one Officer the main cop who knelt on George Floyd's throat, he is being charged on 2 counts. Those other officers aren't being pursued.

On Sunday night, New York's top terrorism cop, Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller, detailed his office's analysis and investigation into why the New York City protests have become so violent and damaging at times:
So translation: Highly planned, co-ordinated and carefully executed left-wing led operation to cause maximum destruction. Planting the brick piles fits perfectly in this planned operation.
Thank you for this, an interesting read. But this Miller guy and his C.I.C another US Govt dept or agency with both good reason and an agenda to propagate this theory.
Also lets be fair, the probable assassination of one US President, 2 prominent and influential black activists all in the space of a few years. Then 9/11, and several conflicts across the Muslim World. So please excuse me as a non American, for having very little faith, trust or belief in what your agencies do across the globe.

Hummm ????Thank you for this. Yes it makes people very angry when the US are so quick to condemn and criticize other countries for their treatment when suppressing and/or oppressing those minorities in these countries.

Make small problem into very big problem.
I gather that it's difficult fir you to comprehend as a Thai, given your own police force and army's murderous history against it's own citizens. So it would be much better if you tried to understand, that we in the West simply can not and do not tolerate blatant acts of murder by an institutionalsed racist police force in this day and age.
This kind of thing is happening all too frequently, their voices are not being heard. But the murder of innocent black Americans continues. So this is the result !!!
Perhaps a lesson to be learnt for Thailand ???

Yeah Mike I was aware of it, and crazy it does sound. Hence my comment.
