  1. QUOTE(drummer @ 2007-03-24 03:30:25)

These guys ARE sick. But then, just the job description of "police officer" draws the very sort of person that likes to be in control of others. Worldwide. A lot of bouncers are bouncers just because they like the idea of being able to beat people up. Many police are the same way, only with guns. Rodney King, anyone? it happens EVERYWHERE. the only way to get around this is independent oversight. Citizens commission. An honest guy at the top might work, until the guy retires! The problem with succession is who gets to succeed!

A ridiculous and totally inaccurate statement that you make!!!!!!!

    I agree with Drummer.

I worked in law enforcement and as private and bar security trust me "most" people in these fields of work are not far from the people they are hired to protect you from.

Many of the guys in my dept. would carry thier badges to the bar while they drank, they called it thier "get out of jail free card." A lot of the security guys in my crew and other crews had records for violent crimes.

I am happy to have left it all.

  2. I was joking about the attack thing .

Wow I must of misread it or my mind wouldn't allow me to see what I was reading! The other people jumped into the altracation unprevoked just because it was a Thai versus a Falang situation?

I do not belive in the American Hate Crime law but if this is what happened I think this incident would be a perfect example of it and I really hope they catch the other guys more than the first.

Anyone can be a hot headed violent jerk but to attack someone just because he is there is sick and premeditated. Total crime of oppretunity makes me sick. I hope the OP got his pound of flesh!

Of to read the OP ten times and let it sink in!

  3. I felt it the pulling over safe part needed to be repeated. I am glad that you were able to understand and digest this information so quickly but maybe others needed it to be repeated.

Safety needs to be practiced like CPR everyone should take a self defense course yearly to brush up. Clearly avoidance and awarness are the first rules but when things get tight sometimes we dot always do the right things.

Is your question some sort of personal attack?

  4. To the OP,

This sounds like a classic story of extortion. I am sure these young "men" were hoping to intimidate you in to paying them for thier trouble and the "damages" to thier car.

It is never a good idea to get into a physical altrication but it looks like you had no choice and did the best you could to survive.

No matter what country, (as this can happen anywhere and is a classic scam) try to drive to a safe populated area preferably with police before you get out.

    My advice.

PS did the police ask for any money since they were bothered to show up?

  5. I am sorry to let the secret out but........ These unfortunate souls who drive Taxis DO NOT choose to do so. if you watch CNN this week there are a lot of reports on human trafficing and these poor drivers are just victims. Apprently there is a huge underground black market for kidnapping men from rural parts of Thailand and forcing them to drive taxis. They have very clear orders to not use the meter or be polite to any passanger less thier plight is discovered and they are released.

It is very sad really many have no idea where to go and have never been to the big city(Bangkok). I suggest the best we can really do is to pay what ever they ask and then give them a big old tip.

Lives are at stake here and rich farangs are callous in thier attempt to have timley, polite, effeciant, travel by the meter! if you do not like this please leave Thailand as soon as you can maybe from the saftey of your home country you can report to Ammnesty International.

    Hey,

Its my 1st post so hopefully this is working OK.

I just got to Bangkok and am looking for a place to live. I wanted to know if anyone had suggestions or was looking for housemates. I am a 22 yr old guy form the USA and am pretty easy going (who isin't here).

The best way to reach me is probably through e-mail [email protected].

  7. This is a second posting for my studio apartment. It is located at the very end of Soi#4 close to the Thai Tobacco Co Op. 8,000 baht a month get's you a real great place fully furnished, free maid, free UBC, Low utilities(under 2,000 baht a month). If you want to see it call me Tyson at 08-60537838 or e-mail me at [email protected]

Once again: No I do not have any pictures. Trust me at this price you will not find anything close in the area.

Internet is up to you it is not provided but you can get it.

The only reason I am leaving is my GF moved in and we need a bigger place so we are upgrading in the same compound.

You must sign a year lease. I only get my deposit back if I can find someone to move in for a year. It is normal 2 months and the current month. Total is 16,000 plus current month or prorate.

    Thanks,

    Tyson
