    pathetic attempt at governmental control

    Big General is watching you!

They have known about the extension of the state of emergency to the end of June for a long time, otherwise they would have not said that schools would open until 01 July, closed international arrivals until 30 June and extended the visas until 31st July.

None of the Thais followed the stay at home request for all the holidays between 01 and 06 May, and the Government did not enforce the 14 day quarantine period when they all left or returned. Amazing Thailand!

So they went to the hospital without Covid 19, for a totally unrelated problem, but got infected there?

Or is now everybody elderly dying in a UK hospital classified as Covid 19 death?

Unfortunately, they all went for unrelated problems and were infected there. They then became a COVID statistic. It certainly does not make the NHS look good.

Pretty much all these types of businesses have been open the whole time in Kanchanaburi apart from Robinson only it seems.

Curfew means nothing also. People everywhere parting no problem.

Yes, it has been the same since the beginning of April in Phra Khanong and On Nut areas. Most of the shops have been open during this supposed lockdown

    Comparing totals

    Thailand  286,008 tests,  3,017 (1.05%)  confirmed cases,  56 (0.02%) deaths
    UK        2,007,146 tests, 226,463 (11.28%) confirmed cases, 32,692 (1.63%) deaths
    Japan     223,649 tests,  15,968 (7.14%)  confirmed cases,    657 (0.29%) deaths

Just heard from the UK that two of my mother's elderly friends were taken recently to hospital; one in Guildford and one in Chertsey for treatment relating to a fall resulting in a broken hip and another fall resulting in a broken arm. Both ladies subsequently died from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

My godmother was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary a month ago due to swelling of her legs, was removed to the South Bristol Community Hospital 10 days ago because of fear of getting the virus and placed in a ward with three other people. She died last Thursday due to the virus. The Community Hospital does not have an ICU or access to ventilators. This suggests part of the reason for the higher percentage of deaths in the UK compared to the other countries could lie with the NHS. It also suggests that the NHS has still a major problem with things such as cleaning (MRSA).

Here is the 10-point plan to save Thai

    1) The government to pass a law requiring its 51% in the carrier to be sold within 3 years - prior to the next general election

    2) A new management team and board of directors with experience in aviation and turnarounds to be appointed, no political appointees, no air force appointees. Strict performance criteria on new team.

    3) New Thai to concentrate on long-haul international routes only (3 hours plus) - short haul intra-ASEAN routes to be sold off

    4) LCC Thai Smile to be sold off - as this mostly operates out of Don Mueang it is not even a feeder for Thai

    5) Catering division to be sold off

    6) No free trips, discounts or other benefits for government officers or other "friends". Thai government travel procurement can receive reduced business class fares based on a commercial agreement for bulk purchase - most countries do this.

    7) Reduction in workforce to benchmark against comparable airlines i.e. SIA

8 MRO investment at U-Tapao to be scrapped - Airbus already pulled out of this

    9) Existing fleet sold or converted to cargo/leaseback - new efficient planes leased

    10) Fares to be benchmarked and made competitive - i.e. on codeshare routes - new algorithms for capacity planning

I believe it is Nok Air that flies out of Don Mueang. Thai No Smile flies out of Suvarnabhumi.

    Yes.

The way to go is a strict lockdown.

    People locked down

    Get sick recover

    Get sick die

    Never get sick.

If enforced ruthlessly for 6 weeks universally it should be enough to ensure every household is "clean" or at the very least the numbers are manageable in a systemic reopening.

Those who cheat are not only endangering themselves and others, they're destroying the whole process.

    That is the answer unfortunately.

Accept draconian measures for a short time now or lose control again later and have to accept them anyway.

But if the government is going to impose those measures they need to ensure that people can survive them.

How lovely to see the locals clearly following the Government's guidelines to stay at home over the six-day holiday weekend! Where are all these wonderful traffic policeman to check drivers going between provinces. Have they all gone home for the weekend? There will be more deaths on the roads during this period than the total (54) for the current virus, which has not met the definition of epidemic proportions for the Kingdom of Thailand.

It would be 138,000 dead, of which 94% would be in the 60-90 category.

Around 400,000 people die in Thailand each year.

    https://pophealthmetrics.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1478-7954-8-14

So the Covid deaths, in case of herd immunity, would be a little over 25% increase. A regrettable number for each person affected, but whether 400,000 or 538,000 die, life would and should go on.

I am surprised that no one is asking why Thailand has had so few cases of the virus SARS-CoV-2?

A review of the reports on the SARS epidemic from 2003 showed that the risk of contracting the virus was reduced when the ambient temperature was 26 deg. C and above. Most of the people in Thailand live at around or above this temperature. Areas with a potential higher risk of getting the virus will be where there is a high level of air conditioning in operation, such as modern Public Transport, large Stores, Convenience Stores and modern office blocks. No evidence has been provided yet, that transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus occurs outside in the "fresh" air. Long may the sun shine on Thailand!
