  1. I am UK citizen, but tax resident in Thailand. I get a UK state pension which I pay tax on in UK, I also get a small Norwegian state pension, which I pay tax on in Norway. I have savings in my UK bank account, where my pension is also paid. Can I claim that any money brought into Thailand, is from my savings, and any top up to my savings is from previous years pension payments, not in this year? Similar with my Norwegian account.

  2. Thanks for all this info Mike, really appreciate the effort you have put into it. Unfortunately, i am still a little confused, I get a uk state pension, and a small norwegian state pension, both of which I pay tax on in each  country. As the UK and Norway have DTA with Thailand, will I have to pay Thai tax on any money I bring into Thailand from either pension. I only transfer money as needed apart from housekeeping for my Thai wife, usually from an ATM. Apologies if this has already been asked, but have been unable to read all 13 previous pages, only the first 6.

  3. I am 77 year old in Thailand with visa extension by marriage (to Thai lady) I get just over £1000 per month from uk state pension, this year I will exceed the tax threshold and will pay tax on my pension. I do not transfer my pension to Thailand, only transfer enough for household bills and some extra spending money, unless have some expensive outlay for repairs to car etc. How will the tax affect someone in my position? Will I have to account for all money I transfer to Thailand, and go through the Thai tax return?

Why don’t they do it like most other countries and do it prepaid. Most everything else here is prepaid. Why not this. In order to get a pass you need to put X amount on the pass, and then receive a notification when it is below a certain amount. If they don’t top it up and go through tolls, then they will get a fine. You’d think that they would have a picture taken every time the light was red showing they didn’t pay, but that would require more work, and we all know that’s not an easy task to accomplish. It sure would cut down the traffic a lot if they promoted this and let people know that they will pay less by having a pass, and made it idiot proof.

What about tourists and others who rarely use the tolls? do we have to buy a pass "just in case"!

  5. I would think, the best way forward is to go to your local Imm. office, if you can and ask them for advice on what documents you need. I've just renewed my visa by marriage. The rules have changed from last year, and they are going to change again for next year. The immigration officer advised me, for next year, go there and ask what documents and actions I will need shortly before applying.

  6. I can understand nightclubs being closed as they are usually in an enclosed space. But lots of bars are completely open at the front or sides, some only have a roof with shutters put up when they close. Most people (not all I admit) that I socialise with are double vaccinated wash hands and wear masks except when eating or drinking, why can't we go to a pub and have a couple of drinks? If you can socialise in a restaurant, should be able to socialise in a pub!

  7. Unfortunately, I haven't read all th previous pages. I have an O visa and am married to a Thai lady. If I have to leave Thailand for medical reasons and return in 4 months, with my re-entry permit, tell them I am only here for a month then have to return to UK for further treatment, will I only need the insurance for that month? I will have a return ticket for the date, which I will change once I am here, so I can stay for the rest of the period of my visa, then just have it renewed as normal.

Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also plans to seek approval from the country's COVID-19 task force to temporarily regulate the export amount of locally manufactured AstraZeneca vaccines as a way to shore up COVID-19 vaccine supplies, but he gave no details about quotas, several local media reported.

Thailand has been producing the AstraZeneca vaccine since June and is slated to export it to several other countries in Southeast Asia as well as Taiwan.

Why is Thailand exporting the AstraZenica vaccine, when they don' have enough themselves?

  9. I went to collect some friends from a little fishing trip, they collected all their rubbish, then when we got to the car it was just dumped in a ditch. I suggested they take it home, and was met with it's OK this is Thailand, I said if everyone did that, they would be walking around knee deep in rubbish, and probably walking on rats. they looked at me with some amusement but collected it back up again, and took it home. it must have had some effect, because several months later one of the friends admonished someone else, who just threw down their rubbish, and told them if everyone did that they would be walking around knee deep in garbage.

  10. It just shows the incompetent, stupidity, you have to wear masks in home, but a friend of my wife, has a colleague at work who has covid. He wants to protect his wife and family, goes to the hospital for a test, hospital say no we not test, if you have covid then we will have to look after you!  These people must be criminally insane. even his company wants him to get tested, but he can't.
