What if they're right?    Will you refuse to pay your obligation and terminate your accounts with them over a debacle that, if they are right, your wife caused by not paying her bills?  Does your wife know that, regardless of the amount involved, there are credit reference agencies in Thailand that will happily add her name and address (it's your address also) to their lists?

No we are not convinced that they are right, as I've stated, in previous post via the Pantip link, that many people are claimed to be wrongfully charged, so we are not alone in this. And they could've asked us to pay via usual means via True Call Center or Terminating current service under her name, since She is still a customer until today.
If at the end of the day they have anything right, It's also my right to terminate accounts for no reasons if I choose to, but in this case I will tell you that it is based on that it's a TERRIBLE Customer Service (if it's their deed to settle the unpaid amounts via Debt Collector rather than other means.. after 6 years of us not knowing/ being informed via usual means like most other services from other companies).

  2. We also have had a bad experience many years back in Bangkok... water bills @ DCondo Ramkhamhaeng. We paid every month, luckily wife kept the receipts. but someone came and claimed that many condo owners in the same building haven't paid water bills for a number of months, including us, and contacted wife to ask her to pay. Wife sent the proof via Line (or showing evidence of paid receipts in person - don't remember exactly). The person left, and then after few days/ weeks, came back to us again, asking for us to pay again. So they came in TWO separate occasions asking us to pay something that we paid already.

So that was a total mismanagement disaster or was an intended Scam or corruption... Since then I've always been more cautious about these kinds of things.

Even if you didn't use it the question is if you had that connection and were supposed to pay for it.

Did you/her i.e. subscribe to a service for a year and then you didn't pay it after a month or two or three and then it was cut?

I have no idea about your legal situation but the first question should be: Why does that invoice exist? Maybe talk to them why they want money from you.

It was so long ago, right after I came to Bangkok to settle here, and because of that we don't remember the exact details or even have any proof or paperwork to defend ourselves. We just remember that we moved in between condos at some point. Wife is also still a True internet customer until today, they never asked her for that specific "outstanding balance" through the usual means, via True Call Center, or via disconnecting current internet package, or not allowing her to sign up to a new package before paying the outstanding balance of the previous package - if that's the case. And that makes that effort from them feels very dishonest if after 6 years they came back through a debt collecting company and suing a paying customer while providing service at the same time.

Generally speaking, claims for breach of contract in Thailand become time expired after a period of 2 or 5 years. In this matter the statutory limitation on time was more than likely 2 years. Section 193/34 of the Civil and Commercial Code states that:

The period of prescription is two years for the following claims:

    a. Claims of merchants, industrialists, manufacturers, artisans and those who practice industrial arts, for delivery of goods, performance of work and care of others' affairs, including disbursements, unless the service was rendered for the business of the debtor.

In this matter the merchant or their assignee would be suing your wife for non-payment for the delivery of goods (provision of an internet service).

It is highly likely that their lawyer would not take this matter to Court, no matter what the debt collection agency says. Doing so would cost the merchant or their assignee both time and Court fees, with an extremely high likelihood that the Court would find the matter outside of the period of prescription.

It is important to understand that if your wife pays the merchant or their assignee any sum of money at all, even 1 baht, then the debt can come back to life and the 2 year time limit can start all over again from day 1.

Thanks for the information. She is still a paying customer and we have a True Internet package under her name at the moment, and has been for few years. So this is weird that True is stabbing a paying customer in the back. They probably could argue that it's a different internet package, but hey, people always change and switch between packages even within one ISP. They could've detected the user/ customer's name and asked her to settle literally years ago.

  5. It IS True. The weird thing is that my wife is still a True Internet customer until today. We have a running internet package under her name, has been active for years. You'd think that if there's an unpaid balance under her name they would not allow her to continue service (like, hey we disconnected your internet,so you must pay up first! we will open after) As was the case for my own True account with my phone bills I forgot to pay a few months ago, they disconnected, I paid and then all good.

For my wife's case it's a stabby stabby in the back to a paying customer. And they came back with this debt collecting company after 6 years... so they can squeeze more money from us, rather than settled that long time ago with proper management.

From my point of view they messed up big time. I'm not sure if I will pay or not (will see details). We have 3 services under True (wife and me). I will likely terminate all of them after this whole debacle.

  6. They sent letter via a third party company (attached) asking to pay 1700 baht (such a petty claim I know). But I'm ready to dispute it since we didn't use that service that time. They even said that they will charge us with their legal advice fee... Now I think they are just Bluffing and can't actually do this, or can they??

Don't think we are wrong in this case.

Ignore it or submit to the bully and pay up because we will lose and it's not worth it?

  7. Recently I bought a 600 baht mini robot vacuum cleaner from lazada, it was an impulse-buy kind of thing because it was under the flash deal category at that time.

Man, I have to say what a waste of money that was. The robot when I'm lucky, sucks 1 single grain of dirt per square meter. And it produces this loud sound of utter disappointment as it goes around my living room doing absolutely f-all.

I figured with the quality of the robots, you need to "go hard or go home with floor still dirty"

How much is the robot? And what is the exact model of the Xiaomi robot?

Edit: Ah ok, you mentioned the details already in your posts above.

Obviously you could hire any nationality. Point is Thais suck for that, Filipino's rule + more western mindset + hardworking + tons more. Think with your business mind and not with your 'oh its nice to have a unneeded real meeting with coffee because its social' and save yourself stress, time, drama, higher spendings for lower returns.

If it is really just the fetish of having a hot office girl with a tight miniskirt, just get one from the bar or pay a girl to wear it for fun only.
Thailand is good for spending, for fun. Keep business away from here. My 2 satang.

Are there exceptions? Sure but too few and a even smaller chance on mid or long term loyalty in that case too. Thais are also job hoppers for life.
Treating them well, paying them well doesn't make it better. Could in fact make it worse.

I agree with basically what you're saying, but I have to add and give credit to my Thai employees though in general, in the field of computer graphics and animation, Thai talents on average are the very best in South East Asia. A number of them are artistic geniuses. But of course you have that "chiwit sabai sabai" attitude that can be annoying from time to time. Although sometimes can be too much exaggerated, in my field quite a lot of them are no less hardworking than other countries' talents in SEA.

I've been working in Thailand for 6 years, and I have worked in Singapore and Indonesia, as well as having many friends all over SEA, Malaysia, Phillipines. So we've made our comparisons, so to speak. Thais raw artistic talent can't be underestimated. Downside is that they really suck at English and any other languages apart from their own, speaking and writing, and by suck I mean they have absolutely one of the worst foreign language skills in Asia.

There's a reason why Thai cuisine is famed world over, and they created Muay Thai which is to this day is a staple in MMA. I commend the Thais for their artistry.

But yeah I'm sure for some other things, Filipinos are very good. English, western mindset in professionalism, I certainly agree with that.

I really do not see the point in travelling anymore , many cities all over the World all have the same/similar shops , most food can be bought all over the World , you can see photos and videos of everywhere in the World and you can talk to anyone in the world on line face to face .

       Why go anywhere ?

Things like, Giza pyramids tour with camel ride is appealing to me. You can put a desktop wallpaper of that but it's not gonna be the same. Next best option is to wait for another 20 years until VR gets so developed.. but then you can't smell the real camel dung, so..

  10. Thai massage, outside touristy area. My father was charged higher price more than advertised by the masseuse, being a foreigner. Why?

Because if my father didn't go for that massage, there are many Thais queuing outside waiting for massage and my father took their opportunity getting a massage? funny the queue was invisible I didn't see them at all.

Or is the masseuse really going to run out of energy massaging a foreigner hence higher price?

We are fellow asians. My wife who is Thai paid regular price. I paid regular price, I speak Thai (they probably thought I was Thai too). Customers appreciate being treated fairly.

What about those for example, white people who are Thai nationals and hold Thai IDs, so their whole life they are looked at as tourists who some locals think that they must pay higher price for everything.

  11. I disagree with your assessment.

There's a reason why in many many countries including US, UK, Singapore, (I was a foreign students in Singapore myself.. but on a half scholarship so I paid the same fees as local Singaporeans) foreign students pay higher price. Because there are limited seats in the classrooms and had the foreigners pay lower fees, many more foreign students would come and flood the universities, it's a filter, so they do this to protect local enrollment in universities. Similar logic with why foreign nationals can't buy landed properties in many countries including Thailand, and this is Fair.

Ticket prices to attractions and tourist sites, it's still somewhat ok, because if you can show your local ID, you pay local prices and usually these locations are packed with tourists, so government is giving priorities to domestic tourism. Ok, sure.

What is disturbing, is the food prices, taxi trips, even Thai massages. Personal experience.

I was in a not-cheap three island boat tour in Krabi, and and in one island, there was a food stall there and they charged double price for food for farangs by the look and their skin. My question is, if they don't charge double price for farangs, they are going to run out of rice and eggs so the locals can't eat or what? If they want to make more money, then why they can't charge more for Thais there, because Thai people who were on that boat trip are well off Thais who can certainly pay higher price. Many of foreigners in turn are not richer than the locals.

Give me a reason why, in this case, other than the sellers are basically racists.

That is the same the World over .

Wherever you are from, I do expect the same thing happens

Not exactly the same tho'. Ok, for ticket prices to tourist sites, sure, not something I agree with but the mildest of annoyance, they do this in other countries as well, but usually if you have local ID, they don't charge you tourist price, in Thailand as well. Fair enough.

Hotels and planes anywhere don't discriminate prices, so that model can work.

I had a Three island tour in Krabi last time, where they had a food stall in 1 island and they charge double price for farangs, the thing is, any Thai people who took that boat tour which wasn't cheap, are well of Thais and they can certainly pay higher price. While at the same time, not all foreigners and other Asians and white people are rich.. some of the are broke af.

What about the taxi trips, food prices and even Thai massages, and well outside touristy areas. They take matters in their own hands and charge higher price because you look different?

Imagine if you are say a white man/ woman who are a Thai national and hold Thai ID - there are a handful of them. So your whole life in Thailand you're gonna be looked at as a tourist who should price higher prices. That is not nice.

  13. I just read it again and I missed the part that you said there's no proof. Don't send your passport, because there's really no use of that before the child is born. I mean only after a child is born then the parents can register, and the registration must take place within 30 days after the birth, which means.. there's plenty of time to do it after the baby's born.

  14. Right now, how many months pregnant is she?

It's very suspicious that she asked for your passport.. There is a chance that she is manipulating or scamming you. Have you been in a video call with her after she claimed being pregnant and you've seen some real undeniable evidence that she's pregnant..?

Be very careful.. I'm not an expert in this area at all. I think someone else can give you better advice... To me it sounds like there's a very good chance she is not being completely honest with you.
