My golf shoes are about to come apart at the seams and need to be replaced . Anyone know where to find reasonably priced  (3000 baht or less)

in the Pattaya area . US13W is a non starter when looking at online stores that service Thailand . I will be checking out the proshops at the golf courses I will be playing now that lockdown is  over but that will take some time . Suggestions on where to look would be appreciated .

As it's not the gun that kills you, but the man holding the gun, so it is not the unvaccinated man that kills you, but the virus. Learn to target your enemy.

 

Hard to believe you can't make the simple connection that the unvaccinated person is the man with the gun . He may not be the one that fires the fatal shot but by not allowing his immune system to effectively attack the virus  and potentially be less likely to infect others he potentially "shoots" someone else and eventually  I catch a bullet down the line. You still need to take all the recommended precautions after being vaccinated  as you can still be infected but your chances of survival are greatly enhanced .

There is no vaccine against liquor abuse , food abuse , smoking or women . There are vaccines that have proven to minimize the life threatening effects of Covid .  No the vaccines are not perfect and are still being studied but they are buying us some time against a virus that can kill you in a matter of weeks . 

What worries me is the anti vaxers stretching out this pandemic longer than necessary . How about we institute vaccine passports you need to show for entry into an ICU if you have Covid . By the end of 2021 I expect everyone wanting to get a vaccine will get it . For those that refuse i respect your right to be an  _ _ _ _ _ _ _ so let's let natural  selection solve the dilemna .  Let's not waste time , money and resources on anti vaxers and allow them to follow their conscience .

Update - Shortly after posting this I received email notification that an SMS will be sent to confirm

appointment date . I have received the SMS and have an appointment , Hopefully it will be the AZ jab .

In a country where they ride motorbikes without wearing helmets ,drive cars without putting on their seatbelts and  pile the extended family into the open box of the pick up  truck  the notion of prevention is not widely accepted . If you want him to get the jab offer him a thousand baht . 

Golf is not a race against time . It should be a pleasant outing with friends without being a hindrance to the group behind you .  Keep the group ahead of you in sight and do not fall back an entire hole  .  Key is getting the first group out to move at a minimum of 4 hour pace or less which should be achievable with no one in front of them . 

I find play on the greens most annoying especially when you get that chap who waits for his turn before reading his putt . Wasted precious minutes where he could have determined slope speed grain etc and then just step up and putt .  Finally had to drop one lad from our circle of players because he refused to alter his lengthy routine on the green . 

The other beauty is the chap with the longest drive and is who is 150 yards from the pin and last to hit out of the fairway . Waits till he  gets to his ball and then pulls out the rangefinder , confirms it is 150 yds , then turns to confer with his caddy . Finally agrees on the club he always hits from that distance 

and then starts his preshot routine  . 5 minutes before he actually hits the ball , Bloody painful to sit through.

Yes I have been fingerprinted by immigration at Suvarnabhumi on entering the country  but I only 

put the back of my hand in front of the sensor when checking temp . . I think more likely the fact 

that they take your photo and have that in a database with your passport info ,

I wish it was that simple.  I didn't sign in . After he called me by my legal name seemed like a waste of

time to sign in . 

I returned to the business again today fully prepared .  I left my smartphone at home . Left my wallet and passport in my car parked 50 metres from the entrance and the device so I was devoid of any trackable items that could give away my identity.

Unfortunately the table was not manned today and no sign of "the hacker" so not able to get any 

new information . The place is quite out of my way and I probably won't be in the vicinity for at least a month so i will try again at a later date to see if the conditions are right with the table manned and someone looking at their smartphone capturing the names of people who enter.

Since no one else has reported  a similar experience I will be satisfied with the explanation that there

was old data on my smartphone that i had thought had been deleted but still accessible .  Still a little mystifed how he had my full legal name translated into Thai immediately as I passed the scanner . 

I feel like it is time to get a Faraday bag to prevent scanning of my credit cards and smartphone .

please leave your smartphone at home and come to that shop one more time to find out if they recognize you. If yes - my assumption is right, if no - it could be some tracking app in smartphone (possible undeletable remains of Morchana app)

I may be able to swing by this place tomorrow . I will turn off my  smartphone  prior to arrival and leave it in my car in the parking lot .  I just hope there is someone there when I arrive who I can ask "what's my full name "? ????

No bank apps on phone .  In Thailand 99.9 % of transactions are cash .  Thai bank receives  funds transfer prior to my arrival and i wear a path to my local ATM taking out cash .

Come to think of it I was carrying  the banks  debit card . 

Part of the reason for my starting this thread is to see if anyone else has had this experience 

when interfacing with one of the Covid check points .

I was carrying my passport but no scans shared with lazada, western union, transferwise . Of the three I only use Lazada and pay cash .  Passport scans were provided to hotel for 14 day quarantine.

Facebook doesn't have my real name . I was told to use an alias and tied  Facebook to  a 

back up email address and not my main Email .

Good point . Fact is my phone is registered in my Thai girlfriends name  so he didn't get my  full name that way .

Well I can see some people are having fun with the topic .  So far i have not really heard a good answer

that would explain him knowing my middle name. Any Apps I have only have my first and last name .

If he had have just used my first and last name I would not have been so concerned butt he fact that he knew my middle name  and he had it translated in to Thai instantaneously causes me pause ,

The only organizations that have my middle name are Immigration , DOT (drivers licence), the groups attached to my 14 day quarantine  like the hotel and the hospital .

Op has obviously logged in, registered etc before and he has been picked up via BlueTooth. 

Interesting .. I thought you needed to pair with a device for Bluetooth to communicate .  

I wasn't wearing a face mask as the device was outside and I generally put on the mask after 

checking my temperature and before passing by people.

No Facebook Check ins at this location for me.

I  don;t  have data activated on my phone and I didn't log into the Wi-fi at this location .  Maybe the AIS phone network is all they need to lift my info .  I may be in the general vicinity of this business in the near future and walk in without my phone . I hope the table is manned so I can confirm it was my phone that gave me away .

No. I have an annoying ASUS phone that you need to install an APP to read QR codes . The APP was migrated to another phone along with all the other APPS by an inexperienced technician so now i have two identical phones for different uses .  The phone I carried today is basically my telephone and Facebook . It does not have the QR APP . It did have the Government APP Morchana but it was removed .

Maybe data stayed on this phone that I am not aware of . If I happen to return I won;t bring my phone

I have a mate who was experiencing a constant argument with his wife about golf. Got to the point that it occupied all his thoughts so much so as he was motoring along the river road he missed a turn and the car plunged into the water . Luckily he is in quite good shape and was able to get the clubs out of the boot and swim to the river bank with them . The car totally submerged and by the time he went back for his wife it was too late .

Everyone knows that renewing you extension and 90 day reports are not related, as it is even clearly written on the slip "this is not an extension of stay".

 

On my last 90 day report I did, which was 27 days before my extension had to be renewed, they even put a red stamp on the slip with the date my extension expired.

 

 

If it was me, I would have fined you the maximum 5000 Baht, for not knowing the rules, and arguing that you are a superior foreigner

 

Always a race to see if people of reason respond or the Thai apologist jumps to the  defense of the absurd . You know what you can do with your superior foreigner wise crack . 

Thai immigration soi 5 jomtien relieved me of 2000 baht today because of 90 day reporting.

I arrived mid December 2020 on a visa extension that expired Feb. 11,2021 .  I renewed my I year extension around Feb, 11 , 2021 at Soi 5 so wrongly assumed  the clock is reset and my 90 day report would be around May 11. Showed up May 4 , 2020 at Soi 5 and told "late reporting 2000 baht " . 

Of course I said excuse me but no I don't think so . The  officer opens up my passport to a stapled insert at the back with a date of March 24, 2021 . No idea the page was there as I have a few notifications stapled inside at the back of the passport and I was told it was better not to remove them and this notice was inserted between them .  I tried to explain I have been coming for years but before I could go any further he just shut me down and said 2000 baht . 

Of course he could see the fire in my eyes as I knew he was robbing me but what can you do . I insisted

my 90 days starts from my last visit in February and he said I was wrong because Visa and 90 day reporting are two different departments "not same" . I pointed out 90 day reporting is to keep track of foreigners and you knew exactly where I was in February as I was in this office  GETTING A VISA EXTENSION . He smiled when I said the purpose was to keep track of foreigners and the light went off . 90 day reporting is just another revenue stream or profit center . Wonder how much money that desk brought in in a good year .

The topper was when the lady brought out my stamped 90 day acknowlegement in passport  and I told her what you are doing here is not right. She turned to my Thai girlfriend and gave some explanation justifying the fine and then told her to come on her own next time with my 90 day paperwork and leave me at home .

I normally come mid November ,renew my extension mid February and leave in May . Past years never had any problems with 90 day reporting so natural assumption was 90 day reset  on renewal of one year extension . Another costly lesson on the intransigence and money grubbing attitude of Thai immigration.  Of course there was another Falang sitting at another desk loudly complaining about the treatment they were getting .  Long past the time they reform this office .

BTW when I renewed my extension in February they sprung on me , out of the blue ,  that I had to produce my income tax statement from last year as I renew on pension income and not the 800,000 baht in the bank .

Thanks . Not working for me. After completing page 1 I am directed to contact the immigration office

i suspect that since this is my first 90 day this trip they may want me to do it in person . With the current situation they should be waving the 90 day ,c%unts.

No reference number  so presumably it didn't work . Continues to amaze me with the resources available to governments how fuc%ing stupid they are when designing and implementing online forms .
