  1. Journeyed to Savannakhet Laos the day before my permission to stay expired, via minivan.

Got stamped out of Thailand with the officer warning I was out of visa and should hit up the consulate.

Got a Lao visa on arrival, $40USD, paid in baht the equivalent - seemed to be correct amount based on current exchange rate.

Then hit up the farmer's market for a few items, drove around, etc.

Stamped out of Laos no issues.

On the Thai side of the river was asked if I had a visa, said no, was sent to the other side of the road, was handed a TM6 to fill out (!!).

Then back to the main booth, handed in passport + TM6.

I thought maybe I had won a somtam door prize or something based on the mad pounding/stamping which ensued.

Yep, the Thai folks who had arrived in the meantime were not amused...

But all in, no issues or surprises - except the TM6. Has the W30 stamp on it and stapled in my passport mostly covering the expiring 'stay' stamp.

  2. Bought the same oven July 1. Same problem, temp per Taylor oven thermometer about 70C below what is set on the oven dial. No ‘oven spring’ when baking bread and everything takes about twice as long to bake. Before contacting customer service I plugged my Habotest Socket Tester into the outlet adjacent to where the oven was plugged. Hmmm, 185-195VAC. The oven is specced for 220-240VAC. So I’m probably running the oven under ‘brownout’ conditions.

Also it’s possible some of these ovens may have ‘second-choice’ components due to COVID-induced parts shortages.

Might be worth checking your AC voltage to see if you are having similar issues.

  3. Well, here’s the wrap up, OP here. My wife and the poo yai baan went to visit the farm closest to where the incident occurred. Turns out the guy living there keeps chickens and has been losing some to dogs. He put out poisoned food the night before the incident. Not sure what the poison was, but some rodenticides here can apparently be pretty fast acting.  It’s even possible the dog got into the poison while the wife was feeding livestock earlier the same morning. They were heading home when I encountered them and the dog decided to accompany me.

  4. So this morning walking with the wife’s dog. Get to a road junction and turn to wait for him (he covers about 4km if I am walking 1). He is running to me when all of sudden he goes down. I go back to him and his legs are twitching a bit and then he passes while I am calling my wife.

This dog was tough, I will guess about 25lbs, 5 years old. My wife thinks the folks just down the road from where I was walking put out poison. But that means it is acting very quickly, probably within 2-3 minutes.  Is this likely? I am concerned maybe there is something poisonous not stored properly on wife’s farm, which is about 10 minutes walk away and where dog and I started out.

FWIW we are walking here many times before without incident.

I am not a dog person nor a Thai farmer so don’t even know what is available to poison rodents or ??? here.

Any ideas on what a dog might get into by accident on a farm that would poison it in 10 minutes or less?
