I had mild flu-like symptoms, aches / chills for around 10 days. The missus similar but less. My 10yo boy had a sore throat for 2 days..

Some of my Thai staff have had it also. One guy was pretty sick, but he regrets not isolating at home after spending 2 weeks in a field hospital.

My friend has scared lungs and can no longer exercise. I could list lots of people I know who are suffering from long covid.

I'll do my best to avoid getting sick.

In the title, he uses US, which is two-thirds of the currency symbol USD, which he obviously means.

In the body of his post, he used Baht, the name of the Thai currency, which has the symbol THB.

Of course, it would be better to use either the symbols or the names consistently, but we are not all financial wizards.

Sorry for posting too fast and not to your liking. I've only got an undergrad with majors in accounting and economics and a masters in corporate finance. Both degrees with honors.

  3. Reported numbers are all low. As confirmed by pretty much every nation. Talk about mathematically challenged.

Moeti also said the number of Covid infections in Africa could be seven times higher than official data suggests, and deaths from the virus two to three times higher.

Cost is not 1,400 baht, transferring via a bank gave you poor exchange rate because they markup the exchange rate. Bangkok Bank must have earned quite a bit from your money transfer from exchange rate difference.

If you had used Transferwise, you could have saved much more money. Unluckily Transferwise aren't allowed to transfer out of Thailand (only into Thailand)

Why didn't you use Deemoney instead? I am not sure about how Deemoney exchange rate compare with Transferwise

To be honest. I'm just happy to get the money out easily! I did check the exchange rates. Not the best but not terrible.

I registered with Deemoney. Just didn't feel comfortable with such a large amount.

  5. I don't buy Apple products, but do get the best available from Samsung.  Always top of the line, and always very satisfied.  Why?  Display is great, camera is first class, speed is great, easy connectivity, etc, etc, etc.  I could care less what others think.  But for a bit more money, its a world of difference.

I tried a cheap phone 6 years ago. Lasted a week with it and gave it away.

Can't wait for the new Samsung line up to be released!  Just a few weeks now.  They're looking awesome.

I'm in no way trying to be smug.

But I come from a very poor immigrant Hispanic family. I know what it's like to be poor.

Both my parents were farm workers in the CA Central Valley, and we lived paycheck to paycheck.

I was lucky, I went to college, first one in my family and I made a good life, and eventually was able to provide for my parents in their later years

But I never lost that feeling of the fear of the insecurity of losing your home, ability to feed yourself and family if things turned South.

So please don't see what I say as smugness, but it's more a case of I know from family experience what the alternatives might turn out to look like

An American success story.  Thanks for sharing.  I wasn't in this same position, but both of my parents were.  Father was born on an Indian reservation, and suffered racism a good part of his early life.  Mother was a daughter of a Scottish immigrant and literally lived in a box while they picked fruit in California.  She literally wore gunney sacks for clothes.  Rope as a belt.

Dad ended up being a highly decorated Pilot in the USAF.  Another American success story.

Congrats!!!!  Like you, based on their stories, I never wanted to be like that either.  I've visited the reservation many times.  Talk about depressing...ugh.

We'll be back in the US next spring checking things out.  If housing prices drop, we might buy.  If not, we'll just get an RV again and cruise around.  The US is a great country for that.

It’s almost too hilarious, scanning through the forum, HUGE developments lately…

six or so countries lifting ALL Covid restrictions

statements that were previously “misinformation” now being uttered by the cdc

natural immunity has been shown to be as effective vaccine at times

Yet no discussion of any of it in the forum, that I saw anyway. None. Hmmm. Makes wonder, doesn’t it? Makes you wonder about those oxymoronics.

No discussion of natural immunity because all references to it were from dodgy websites.  None of us here are wondering why it's not on this forum.

Natural immunity has been proven to not be an alternative to the vaccines.

In all honesty any decision I make regarding my child is going to be based on the risks/benefits as it applies to her, and not as it applies to some misguided soul who should but has decided not to get vaccinated.  Their choice, their risk.

Understood, but you're missing the point.  The vaccines have been proven to be safe.  And it's more about ending this pandemic, than protecting the lives of the unvaccinated.  With that being said, many vaxxed are getting the virus also.  And the unvaxxed are the biggest spreaders.  Children or adults.

it is certainly important to listen to authoritative sources:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/health-59978516

    eg,

Prof Russell Viner, who is an expert in child health at University College London, said Covid was behaving like normal winter viruses in children: "Clinically, this picture is incredibly reassuring. Half were in for observation only. The average length of stay was low...around two days."

Even babies with other serious medical complications do not appear to be getting very ill with the virus.

That's part of the picture.  The other is doing vaccines to prevent transmission.  And thus protect the lives of others and help end this pandemic.
