LVGS (Lake View Golfers Society) is a golf society that plays every Monday & Friday morning at Imperial Lake View golf course in Hua Hin/Cha Am.

There are also some Wednesday games and a few trips to Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi and other local courses each year.

We are a mixed sex, mixed nationality group with handicaps from high to low.
Although most of us are retired we do have some working members.

We always play competitions and handicaps are maintained for all members.

The aim of the group is to enjoy ourselves, who wins and who loses is not really important.
We do however play strictly to the rules of golf with a few local rules specific to golf in Thailand.

New members are always welcome, preferably people living permanently in the Hua Hin area.
People only living here for a few months a year are also welcome.

We are very supple about allowing guests to play with us (even if they are not introduced by a member).

If you are interested in joining or playing with LVGS and/or for any inquiries, please send an email to [email protected].

  7. We have seen the likes of the Jutanugarns and Jasmine win on the LPGA however this young lady has so much experience already, she is not vaised by the big events. At the moment she will not be able to join the LPGA until the open up Q School for the 2022 season, but I predict she will reach the top 10 on the Rolex rankings in the next few years.

    Athaya Thitikul

It is the first professional championship win for Athaya Thitikul, a 17-year-old girl from Ratchaburi, who has just won her first professional championship, after only her fourth event.

This talented teenager, rose to fame when she became the youngest golfer in the World to win a major tour event. She went on to win as an amateur two LET Tour events both held in Pattaya at Phoenix Gold.

She was also former No.1 amateur in the World and has even played at Augusta.

Thitikul won the Sing-ST Thai LPGA Championship 2020 and a prize of 150,000 baht held at the Kabinburi Sports Club.

"I'm very happy to be able to win the championship by playing the 4th event in my professional life. Today's game was good. I hit 17 greens, and each putt had a chance to win. Most of all is very good. " said Thitikul.

She is currently due to play most of her golf on the Ladies European Tour for the time being, but once the LPGA tour school re starts, it is anticipated that she will  join the US tour in 2022.

Meanwhile with her talent, expect to see her get a few sponsors invites to participate in some of the majors in Europe and in the States.

"Pro Pat" Donnapha Phutthipin, leader of the second round, finished two points behind, totaling 15 under and received 89,300 baht in prize money.

While Pawarisa Yokthuan and Busabakorn Sukaphan, tied in 3rd place and received 59,400 baht in prize money.

  10. Thailand’s Kiradech Aims for  2020-21 PGA Tour Season

Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat has decided to channel his energy and focus toward the new 2020-21 PGA TOUR Season starting in September.

The Asian golf star, who turned 31 on Thursday, opted to skip the TOUR’s return to golf last month after flying home to Bangkok in mid-April following the initial suspension of the TOUR due to COVID-19.

While he has missed competition, the enforced break has proven to be a blessing in disguise as it has allowed him to rest and recuperate from a lingering knee injury sustained over a year ago.

Kiradech said he is now planning to return to his U.S. base in Orlando, Florida, sometime next month to prepare for the new season, which is tentatively set to begin September 10 at the Safeway Open in Napa, California. The U.S. Open is scheduled for the following week at Winged Foot Golf Club.

“If everything falls into plan, I will go back to Orlando in a few weeks’ time,” said Kiradech, the first Thai to hold a full PGA TOUR card. “It should give me time to prepare for the new season which will be my main focus. I will need to get ready as I want to come back stronger and regain my form. I plan to play in everything that I can get into from September onwards. I really miss the game and I want to go back to work.”

The burly Kiradech, who is often referred to as ‘Asia’s John Daly,’ has played in only six tournaments in the current 2019-20 season, with a best finish of T8 at THE CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES in Korea last October. He finished tied for 27th at the Puerto Rico Open in February and missed four other cuts. He currently sits at No. 182 on the FedExCup points list.

With the PGA TOUR extending playing exemptions through the 2020-21 season due to an abbreviated year, Kiradech felt his decision to start afresh in the new season was the best option.

“I’ve not played much golf at home but I’ve stayed fit and healthy. It has been good spending time with my family. I haven’t spent too much time on golf and I hope this (health) situation will pass quickly,” said Kiradech, a former Asian Tour No. 1 and four-time European Tour winner.

With the TOUR playing its seventh tournament in the return to golf this week at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities, Kiradech said he has refrained from watching the action on TV.

“I have missed golf but I’ve not watched any of it or searched for golf news. I just wanted to get away from watching as I would miss it even more knowing I’m not there playing,” said Kiradech, whose world ranking has dipped to No. 168.

“I normally play 30-plus weeks a year, so to skip tournaments is a tough thing to do.”

Having turned 31 this week, Kiradech spent his special day with family visiting a temple in Ubon Ratchathani, east of Bangkok. In 2014, he spent a week in a Siamese temple where he learnt the ways of a monk, which included shaving his head and eyebrow, waking up at 4.30 a.m., meditating and walking bare feet for kilometres to gather food for village folks.

“It’s a Thai culture, something that we do on our birthdays whenever we can to seek blessings from the monks,” he said. “I pray that I’ll come back strong. I believe I can win on the PGA TOUR when I get back out there and I also want to move back into the world’s top-50.”

I would rather play without caddies and save 600bht......do usually have a good laugh with them though.....find that some of them, especially if they have worked at the course you are playing on for many years, are very good at reading putts.

According to Thongchai Jaidee Caddies are the secret weapon for the Thai Golf Industry and many golf vactioners love to have the luxury of a femail caddie on their bag. That said with pensions shrinking, maybe the courses can allow retirees the choice at off peak hours of a fixed fee and tip of say THB40 a hole. They do this after 4pm at Pheonix Gold in Pattaya.

It is still cheaper to go and get vouchers from the PSC - 700 baht - any weekday I believe.

The add also fails to mention cost of cart and caddie fee is a further 950 baht - for 18 holes.

Soon they will launch a par 3 package with 18 holes set up for par 3 events. Not sure of the price yet but Burapha are always coming up with promotions.

  16. Stars Fighting for Playoffs Spots in Fedex Cup

    By Chris Cox

    Sungjae Im. Image: Getty

The COVID-19 pandemic has made certain that this year’s FedExCup Playoffs will look wildly different from the start, except of course for those notorious staggered strokes, which are back once again.

(Not that it seemed to matter in 2019, of course. Rory McIlroy, who began the tournament in fifth place at 5-under par, eventually won by four strokes to claim a cool US$15 million in prize money. Justin Thomas finished tied for third.)

Any comparison to past events likely ends there though. Don’t both looking for another picture-perfect moment of Tiger Woods walking the 18th fairway with thousands of fans flanked behind him, cheering him on to another record-breaking victory. Not this time. The TOUR will continue playing without fans in attendance for the remainder of this season through the Playoffs in an effort to limit the spread of coronavirus.

But fan-less sporting events have become the norm worldwide over the past few months. Imagine, instead, a postseason where your favourite player potentially joins the fans watching on TV from home. That’s the unusual reality facing several Tour stars who are currently on the outside of the top 125 in the standings, in large part a credit to the loss of 13 events that awarded FedExCup points during those initial months of the coronavirus outbreak.

Korea’s Sungjae Im isn’t among those feeling any dread. With six top-10 finishes and a win at The Honda Classic this year, the 22-year-old is safely inside the top-30 TOUR Championship field at No. 3 in the standings. A shot at the Wyndham Rewards US$1 million bonus is within Im’s sight. Byeong Hun An (No. 33), Sung Kang (50) and K.H. Lee (94) are also safely within the top 125 to date which is the cut-off for players to qualify for THE NORTHERN TRUST, the first of three Playoffs events.

    Who Could Miss Out?

But not all the others can share in Im’s comfort. And perhaps no player’s ominous standing has been discussed at length quite like that of Brooks Koepka, who exited the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at No. 154 in the FedExCup.

The four-time major winner was a late commitment to the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event in an effort to boost his standing, as the TOUR’s Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019 has made just nine starts this season with only one top-25 finish.

    962942598_BrooksKoepka.MandatorycreditGettyImages.jpg.10f56d41256190d53d6e8166043fea5f.jpg

    Brooks Koepka. Image: Getty

“I'm pretty far down in the FedExCup and need to make a run,” he said flatly. “I think it's pretty simple. I didn't plan on playing, but things change, and I'd like to be in Atlanta. That's what you've got to do; I'm going to basically run the table.”

Last year’s Champion Golfer of the Year, Shane Lowry, sits at No. 147 in the standings and is likewise trying to make one last push into The Northern Trust field.

There’s plenty of fellow players who fall into similar categories. Neither 2017 Players Champion Si Woo Kim (No. 132) or 2019 Presidents Cup member C.T. Pan (No. 174) would qualify today. Francesco Molinari, who has wins in the previous two seasons at The Quicken Loans National, Open Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational, went ahead and called off the rest of this season in July as he moves his family to California from London.

Even 10-time PGA Tour winner Justin Rose (No. 121), who won the FedExCup in 2018, and 2017 Masters Champion Sergio Garcia (No. 123) are teetering on the edge of qualification.

And for those already wondering, like Im, Woods is comfortably inside the first two playoff events, though his current position of 42nd would currently have him out of the Tour Championship.

To be clear, the circumstances surrounding this bizarre season mean that there is no risk to a player who fails to qualify for the 125-man field at The Northern Trust, a punishment that before this year would have cost players Tour status. Consider the 2019-20 season as a bridge year of sorts when it comes to qualification.

The blitz to the finish and the start of the FedExCup Playoffs are here. The fascinating storylines await.  Including, yes, those staggered strokes.
