  1. I appreciate all the responses and it's great to hear that my fears are overblown.

I really loved the sound from the Sprint's 1050 mill.  One of the best sounding engines I've ever owned, even with the stock pipe and silencer. Very smooth and loved to rev.

I dropped by the Kawasaki dealer today in Mega-Bangna. Tomorrow I'll pay a visit to the Yamaha rider's club up in Bueng Kum.  Hopefully they have a bike up there that I can throw a leg over.

    Thanks again.

I would be happy if someone who knows, can tell me what is valid for having the chance of going from Sweden to Thailand and be welcomed in.

I know that married to a thai is one of the conditions... But lets say I am married in Sweden but NOT in Thailand.... Do they refuse me to enter Thailand??  Must I be married inside Thailand???

My wife (Thai) and I were married in the US. For the visa to enter Thailand last month I had to submit our marriage certificate to a Thai consulate in the US. Here it was an original marriage certificate signed by officials in the county where the marriage took place - not fully legalized by state and federal agencies.

  3. Hi everyone,

I'm a recent expat arrival living in BK and for the first time in 20 years without a motorcycle. Before moving here I sold off my three bikes - a Kawasaki ZRX1200, Triumph Sprint GT and a Kawasaki Versys 650. I had planned on getting another Versys 650 after getting out of quarantine but started to consider slightly larger displacement adventure style bikes since I'd like to do some 2-up touring with the missus.
A few years ago I test-rode a FJ-09 and liked it in general, particularly the engine.

Looking around for Yamaha dealerships in BK I get the impression that they don't have the presence that other brands like Kawi and Honda have. This makes me wonder about support and service.  My question is whether relative to other reliable brands (e.g. Kawasaki, Honda) it's risky to buy a Yamaha here in LoS?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

If you were to land in Bangkok on a Monday, your official day 1 of quarantine would start on the Tuesday.

As for being able to use facilities, I believe this is possible for some ASQ hotels after your second negative test - I stayed in SQ and wasn't allowed to leave my room at all for the whole duration other than to be COVID tested.

The schedule the hotel gave us when we checked in stated that we would be able to go outside after the first negative covid test.  When we asked about this after testing negative we were told that we could only leave our room after the second test.  In the end we only went out once since by the time we got results from the second test there were only a couple of days left.

I will say that I'll always remember the first meal outside the ASQ hotel as one of the best tasting in my life lol.

  5. I used a Sena 10C for about 3 years to record my daily commutes back in the states and some riding through Northern Thailand.  What I liked about this camera is that it was relatively small, sleek and it mounted on the side of the helmet.  I'd buy it again if I was in the market for a helmet cam.

I'm curious; must the Thai spouse physically be in Thailand during the application process and travel of the foreigner? Or, can the Thai provide the documentation for his/her spouse while outside of Thailand and follow later?

My wife and I arrived together from the US.  I did have to provide a letter from my wife giving her consent to my travel to Thailand but beyond that nothing about whether she was in Thailand or, if not, when she would arrive.  I did have to give details for a guarantor in Thailand on the visa application.  Here I used one of her relatives in Thailand and it wasn't an issue.

You didn't mention the Substantia Nigra.

"Go to the bottom of the class young man" ????

Jokes aside, that was a good post. What's your experience with Neurology?

But I did mention substantia nigra lol.  Without capitalization though.  No mention of indirect or direct pathways or striatum, caudate putamen though.  Almost 20 years in CNS indications that include PD, depression, schiz, pain and obesity (including reward pathways).  The last 8 years have been cancer however.  Sadly, developing therapeutics for CNS indications is just too risky from a business perspective.  Too much opportunity for on-target tox (intelligent design my-left-buttock lol).

Not at all, it destroys your motor functions.   Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that leads to shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination. Parkinson's symptoms usually begin gradually and get worse over time. As the disease progresses, people may have difficulty walking and talking.

(apologies in advance for getting nerdy)

PD neurodegeneration begins with dopaminergic neurons (neurons that release the monoamine neurotransmitter dopamine) in brain centers involved with motor functions but unfortunately doesn't end there.  Dopamine is released by neurons in other brain centers as well, especially reward centers. Its role in promoting a sense of well-being and elevated mood is well documented and there are anti-depressants (e.g. bupropion) on the market whose mechanism of action includes increasing dopamine levels in the reward circuits in the brain.  Why dopaminergic neurons? Dopamine is especially prone to auto-oxidation which in turn generates in toxic oxygen radicals that lead to death of dopamine-expressing neurons.  For some reason dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (involved with movement) are affected first.  However dopaminergic neurons in other brain areas like those in the reward pathways slowly die off as well which can result in depression (as well as a spectrum of other CNS issues).  Nasty disease.

Have you ever gotten the "Use the Link below to edit the shared entry" message with a green "View Entry" link button in an email from them? This is your portal back into your application. If the application is locked, meaning you can no longer edit anything, it may say at the bottom below your signature "Submitted". That means your entire application is complete and has been submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If your application is still open and editable, then you are still in process for some reason. You need to find out what that reason is. Here is the L.A. phone number and of course their email:
    323-580-4222

    [email protected]

Yes, I've gotten a few of those including one that came in about an hour ago.  It might have something to do with me getting my e-ticket for the repatriation flight this morning.  My application is still editable.  I expect that when I get the passport-visa back it will just be a matter of scanning and uploading.

Thanks for the contact details.  Last time I had tried a number that ended with 9574 and I could not reach anyone.  I'll try yours.

It sounds like turn-around time is individual and site specific.  LA might have higher demand / lower bandwidth compared with Chicago.  The OP might want to call around to ask what the turn around times are at other consulates.  This is assuming that you don't have to apply only to the nearest consulate.

  10. I had to upload the flight info only as everything else was in place except for the visa.  When I got that message on the first page that I did have a visa, I replied to one of the previous emails I had gotten from the Thai consulate. I asked if they could upload the visa from their end or if I should wait until I got my passport back from them.  Of course it was the latter.  That was two weeks ago.

The online application's web page states that applications that are not completed within one week from the start date will be deleted.  However mine is still active.

  11. I sent my visa application to the LA consulate two weeks ago but haven't heard back from them yet.  I've been doing the online application and when I went in to upload some docs I had to change my answer from "NO" for "Do you have a visa?" to "YES" because I got a popup message stating that my visa was approved.  Like I said, that was two weeks ago.  It used to be that you could call the consulate and actually speak to someone but that's been changed.  My schedule is getting tighter (flight is scheduled for end of the month) but not as tight as yours from the sounds of it.

Have you tried emailing them? They've emailed me in the past and sometimes actually respond to my questions.

  12. I hope I'm not derailing this thread but I have a related question - by the time my Thai wife and I get out of quarantine it is likely that more than 1 month will have passed on my 90 day non-immigrant O marriage visa.  Getting a Thai bank account will be the first thing I do (second actually, right after I go have a beer) but I won't have money in my Thai bank account for 2 months before the visa runs out.  Is it possible to get a short term extension without having the funds in place for the two month period?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give
