  1. @DrJack54, yeah I think so to, im going to apply for my paperwork now, if it is granted and I get the appointment with the embassy before my current extension expires then I will just leave Thailand and re enter on my Irish passport, job done hopefully….i will update this thread as each stage of the process is completed
  2. @DrJack54 & @sometimewoodworker have just got off the phone with the Irish embassy in Bangkok, I have been told that the application for affirmation of marriage certification is approx 4 months turnaround, once that approval has been made and I have been issued with the relevant paperwork I have 180 days in which to use it ( get married)…I explained to the woman that I don’t have any entry stamps or visas in my Irish passport she said it wasn’t a problem for the embassy but the amphur would have an issue with it, I explained my idea to apply for the affirmation of marriage middle of February then leave Thailand on the 23rd may and come back one week later on my Irish passport and get an entry stamp and then extension of the 60 day visa waiver and then during that time get married, the woman thought that time scale was sufficient to work. the other idea could be to apply now for the affirmation to marry, once that’s granted and if it’s before the 23rd of may when my visa expires, then I have 180 days to use it meaning I could leave Thailand and the enter back using my Irish passport
  3. I will be calling the embassy on Monday to seek advice from them, once I have an answer from them I will update this thread
  4. @DrJack54 yes I have been on that site, it’s the Irish embassy site and that’s where you have to fill in the questionnaire, strangely enough when they list the documents you need to send to the embassy before you get your affirmation of freedom to marry, they list the usual, birth certificate etc these have to be the originals but regarding my Irish passport all they want is a photocopy of it, no mention of photocopy of the visa and extension pages…
  5. This is a screenshot of the recommended times to allow for the application, looks like I could apply in say February then by the time I return to Thailand after leaving on the 23rd may when my extension expires , I should get stamped in in a 60 day visa exempt so that when I go to the embassy for my appointment I will have a correct stamp in my Irish passport
  6. @DrJack54 @sometimewoodworker thank you both for your responses, I will call the embassy on Monday to seek some advice but I’m thinking the same as you gents that I will have to leave Thailand on my uk passport and then return after a week or so on my Irish passport and get the 60 day visa exempt stamp and then start the process. The only fear I have is that the Irish embassy have a questionnaire that you have to fill in supplying my details and the ‘ prospective wife/ partner details ‘ you have to submit this online to be given an appointment to go to the embassy with your paperwork, part of this questionnaire suggests that you should submit the questionnaire up to four months before your marriage, they also ask for a date of that marriage ceremony, maybe I should submit the questionnaire and put a marriage date of say June 2025 that might give me time to leave Thailand in may then return on my Irish passport end of may get the 60 day stamp and then perhaps my appointment with the Irish embassy will fall in the 60 day stamp period….i will try a phone call to the embassy On Monday and seek some clarification, I will update this post on Monday.
  7. Hi all, im currently living in Thailand on a non o visa ( and subsequent extensions) based on retirement, all my stamps and extensions etc are in my uk passport, I have dual nationality so I also have an Irish passport, im pencilling in april 2025 (not sure of exact date yet) to get married, my extension of stay expires on the 24th may 2025 , this is in my uk passport but I want to get married in April using my Irish passport but if I go to the Irish embassy in Bangkok I don’t have any entry stamps or anything related to Thailand in my Irish passport, my question is will they refuse to deal with me because I don’t have any entry stamps or visas in my Irish passport, I have everything in my uk passport. just a bit of clarification, im here on my uk passport which runs out in June 2025, I want to use my Irish passport as the embassy do the letters regarding income for immigration and they are a lot easier to deal with than the uk embassy, also my Irish passport expires in 2029. my plan was to apply for an appointment with the Irish embassy to get my affirmation to marry sorted out, get married in April then leave Thailand in may just before my extension of stay runs out, have a week or so in Vietnam then return in my Irish passport and start the process of my non o based on marriage and eventually an extension of that…sorry it’s about long winded but it’s hard to explain in a typed question. looking forward to any advice many thanks
  8. Hi all, I hope someone can help me out, im trying to fill out the questionnaire for my affirmation of marriage form on the Irish embassy in Bangkok website, the problem im getting is that after filling in a box like forenames then surname I come to a date of birth box ( or any box that requires numerals rather than text) once I fill that box in and move onto another box I can’t fill that box in because the box containing say my date of birth remains highlited as though it’s still waiting for a date of birth to be entered, anyone got an idea what’s going on? im filling the form in, or at least trying to, using an Apple iPad do I need to use an android device instead of an Apple device? Grateful for any help gents
  9. And the Thai navy done nothing….probably outnumbered that’s why they didn’t respond, had the Thai navy had 20 ships and 10,000 men it might have responded, they don’t like an even fight
  10. More like two nightclub doormen offered him a lift home, they saw how drunk he was and tried to rob him once he was inside their pickup when that didn’t work out they both set about him and threw him out of their truck, all this Good Samaritan <deleted>e is just a fabrication
  11. I live in Khon Kaen and we have a lot of fairly large second hand dealers in the city, it looks like they take the trade ins from the main dealers, but again these don’t have prices on the screen/ windshield, I bought a car from a teacher in the university when I went to view the car I took a small OBD2 code reader with me after the test drive I plugged the reader in and got zero fault codes so I had a pretty good idea if the car was good or not, I ended up buying the car after doing a few more simple checks, just remember Thais are not good at getting basic maintenance done, the tyres on the car I bought were over 7 years old ( tyres have a date of manufacture stamped on the sidewall) good tread but the sidewalls were starting to crack, the second hand car market is a minefield no matter where in the world you are
  12. Hi Dr Jack many thanks or your reply, I’m going to be using the Khon Kaen immigration office ,I’m going to try and get an appointment with the embassy to get my marriage paperwork sorted out for when I arrive back in Thailand, so do you think I can arrive in Thailand and get a 60 day visa exempt stamp, during the 60 days get married and then say a week before my initial 60 days expires get a 60 day extension to that for “ visiting Thai wife “, and then apply for the non O based on marriage? I will have the 400k in the bank anyway but I’m going to try the monthly income route and see how that goes
  13. Hi all, I have even in Thailand for 3 years on a non O based on retirement and then extensions, my current extension expires end of may 2025 I’m going back to the uk middle of may 2025 for a month or possibly longer which means my extension will expire, I’m planning on returning and then getting a 60 day visa exempt stamp in my passport and then a 30 day extension ( assuming the 60 day visa exempt will still be in place by then) whilst on the 60 day exemption I’m planning to marry the gf, so my questions are can I marry on the 60 day exemption and then apply in Thailand for a non O based on marriage? do I have to have the 400,000 baht in my account on the day I apply for the non O or does it need to be in my account for a few months before? looking forward to any information you might have
  14. Why am I not surprised by this type of behaviour, selfish race of people in every aspect of their lives
  15. My mrs said that November is a merit making month so lots of music and partying, so hopefully in the next few weeks it will die down….but remember that Thais generally don’t give a rats arse about who their noise affects it seems to be the way they are…Thailand is a noisy place to live
