  1. @Equatorial, many thanks for your advice regarding card management on the app, I had a look through and just noticed that the prompt to ‘ activate debit card ‘ is greyed out so I can’t select it, looks like I need a trip to my branch to sort it out. many thanks for your help
  2. Hi all, thanks for the replies and good information, the situation I have is I have a Bangkok bank account but the card I have I can’t use to shop online or make contacless transactions in a shop by touching my card on the reader, what normally happens when I’m trying to order grab or buy from lazada etc is they ask for my CCV number when I enter it it gets rejected or I get a message saying incorrect CCV it’s as if some functions of my card have not been enabled by the bank….looks like I will have to contact the bank by going into a branch to sort it out
  3. Hi all, I have a savings account with Bangkok bank this holds the money for my visa etc, im looking for a current account to put money in just for everyday expenses, having looked on the various banks web sites there doesn’t seem to be much difference between them, anyone have a suggestion on what might be the best bank? Also looking at getting a credit card which bank is better or easier to get a credit card from
  4. Hi gents, I just wanted to update you in my visa and extensions transfer into my new uk passport, I went to Khon Kaen immigration yesterday, I took my old uk passport and my new uk passport I gave both to the IO and filled in the form she gave me ( there’s a link to it on this thread) she photocopied the page with my original non O visa and then she photocopied the pages with my subsequent extensions of that visa, she then stamped my new passport with the extensions, I know this is supposed to be free but she asked for 300 baht which I gave her, I did remark to her that the service is free and she replied it was to coverr photocopying . Anyway it all got done in around 20 minutes
  5. Many thanks for the information & link’s gents , I will come back to this thread and update it with what was required
  6. Hi all, I have a new uk passport, what’s required to transfer my non O visa and extensions from my old passport into my new passport , im in the Khon Kaen immigration area
  7. Sounds like the OP has gotten himself a girlfriend in Isaan who has never met in person, she no doubt wants money to start a business and has asked the OP to fund it…seen it all before
  8. It’s not as easy as it seems, im doing my affirmation to marry through the Irish embassy in Bangkok, I sent them all the documents they listed but now they are asking for the decree nisi or petition for divorce, this has to come from Maidstone county court in Kent uk who are being less than helpful and are not responding very quickly to my emails, im now going to have to phone them to arrange for a copy of the divorce petition….i have no idea why the embassy want it as I sent them my decree absolute paperwork
  9. @DrJack54, yeah I think so to, im going to apply for my paperwork now, if it is granted and I get the appointment with the embassy before my current extension expires then I will just leave Thailand and re enter on my Irish passport, job done hopefully….i will update this thread as each stage of the process is completed
  10. @DrJack54 & @sometimewoodworker have just got off the phone with the Irish embassy in Bangkok, I have been told that the application for affirmation of marriage certification is approx 4 months turnaround, once that approval has been made and I have been issued with the relevant paperwork I have 180 days in which to use it ( get married)…I explained to the woman that I don’t have any entry stamps or visas in my Irish passport she said it wasn’t a problem for the embassy but the amphur would have an issue with it, I explained my idea to apply for the affirmation of marriage middle of February then leave Thailand on the 23rd may and come back one week later on my Irish passport and get an entry stamp and then extension of the 60 day visa waiver and then during that time get married, the woman thought that time scale was sufficient to work. the other idea could be to apply now for the affirmation to marry, once that’s granted and if it’s before the 23rd of may when my visa expires, then I have 180 days to use it meaning I could leave Thailand and the enter back using my Irish passport
  11. I will be calling the embassy on Monday to seek advice from them, once I have an answer from them I will update this thread
  12. @DrJack54 yes I have been on that site, it’s the Irish embassy site and that’s where you have to fill in the questionnaire, strangely enough when they list the documents you need to send to the embassy before you get your affirmation of freedom to marry, they list the usual, birth certificate etc these have to be the originals but regarding my Irish passport all they want is a photocopy of it, no mention of photocopy of the visa and extension pages…
  13. This is a screenshot of the recommended times to allow for the application, looks like I could apply in say February then by the time I return to Thailand after leaving on the 23rd may when my extension expires , I should get stamped in in a 60 day visa exempt so that when I go to the embassy for my appointment I will have a correct stamp in my Irish passport
  14. @DrJack54 @sometimewoodworker thank you both for your responses, I will call the embassy on Monday to seek some advice but I’m thinking the same as you gents that I will have to leave Thailand on my uk passport and then return after a week or so on my Irish passport and get the 60 day visa exempt stamp and then start the process. The only fear I have is that the Irish embassy have a questionnaire that you have to fill in supplying my details and the ‘ prospective wife/ partner details ‘ you have to submit this online to be given an appointment to go to the embassy with your paperwork, part of this questionnaire suggests that you should submit the questionnaire up to four months before your marriage, they also ask for a date of that marriage ceremony, maybe I should submit the questionnaire and put a marriage date of say June 2025 that might give me time to leave Thailand in may then return on my Irish passport end of may get the 60 day stamp and then perhaps my appointment with the Irish embassy will fall in the 60 day stamp period….i will try a phone call to the embassy On Monday and seek some clarification, I will update this post on Monday.
