  1. I used to agree with you, but now I don't and nor does my Thai family. In my view reciprocity does not apply when the GDP per person is much lower here than in more developed countries. But even then, look at the ridiculously high house prices in say London which have crowded out the locals. I would be concerned about the Chinese buying up property here, as they have done for condos which I think has contributed to the high condo prices these days.
  2. Glad we agree KhunLA. But I'm afraid I have better things to do than to write, let alone read, your 6440 posts to this forum. Actually, I'm wasting my time saying anything in this forum! Cheerio.
  3. Yes, it is my choice. The air pollution is way ahead what it was 20 or 30 years ago. The public transport system is excellent and beats the congestion. Maybe you miss the hidden gems and amazing things going on. Try smiling if things don't meet your high expectations. Be happy wherever you are or go back from whence you came.
  4. For all the miserable naysayers on this forum who I wish would just leave, and from someone who has lived in Bangkok for over 40 years, I love Bangkok and Thailand as a whole, for reasons beyond the understanding of the moaners. Any survey is irrelevant to me.
  5. Hmmm, easy to say if you are not in that position (like I am, but with funds) and have a Thai family. It's not s eslk in the park. But must award the main gov Siriraj Mahidol University Hospital in BKK top marks, 5* for my recent 5 day stay for a major op. But very difficult to navigate without a Thai speaker.
  6. Example. If somebody owns a private hotel but wishes not to allow guests with pets, as a private business the owner has every right to refuse guests with pets. Same with masks, skirts or anything else -- not withstanding the American woke brigade. Go to another place if you don't like it.
  7. Obviously, private businesses may make their own decision about the matter, which is their right, but if a customer does not wish to wear a mask (like me), then they have the choice of going elsewhere. Here in BKK in the large malls I've been to, there are no restrictions or requirements, and nobody has asked me to wear a mask. Of course, nearly all Thais are still using them, but that is their choice. I have no complaints, and I do not find it "confusing" at all.
  8. I think there is more to this story than has been revealed. I would not pass judgement so fast, despite attempts to sweep it under the carpet for diplomatic reasons. Possibly just a communication problem we know all too well.
  9. Been here for decades. Non-Imm O Retirement. Never done, seen, or asked for a TM30 anywhere including hotels from 0* to 5*. Just keep one registered address with Immigration at the same address I've used for years. Never been fined but if I am that's the whole point of this ridiculus system.
  10. Why? Do we really need the gummint to tell us all the time what to do, where to go, what to think? I'm sure the folks will figure it out on their own in due course, and in any case all the pot products I've seen for sale have been labelled.
  11. Together with at least 2 other medical scams beginning with "C." But in cities EVs would shift the pollution from a densely populated area to the remote power fossil fuel generation site. I would be interested in a plug-in hybrid which might do 40 Km on battery around town, but use petrol for long journeys.
  12. Around 40 years ago I went to Sukhothai Historical Park and saw a group of young foreigners on pushbikes who wanted to see the place but were put off by the dual pricing. I wrote a letter to the Fine Arts Department who (at that time) issued the park tickets, pointing out they should not discriminate, especially for youngsters. Of course, I didn't receive a reply. So if they can't see common sense in decades then I agree with you - Don't go there.
  13. www.cannalyticssupply.com Gives a rough estimate of THC and other cannabinoids. Fiddly to use, but can certainly tell the difference between "good" and "bad" oil.
  14. Current price of oil: WTI Crude = $118.87 Brent Crude = $119.72 UAE Das = $114.71 Russia ESPO = $80.60 Russia Sokol = $102.84 [Source: oilprice.com] So I presume they would buy more oil from Russia but keep it quiet from the USA so as not to offend them.
  15. 1) No, the first quote was stated in an official memorandum. An oral promise by Baker as US Secretary of State is not significant? 2) Splitting hairs. Yes, they were under Soviet domination, not by their own free will. And yet, Zelensky went to the Munich Security Conference shortly before the war and again pleaded for Ukraine to join NATO. How do expect Russia to react, given the failed Ukrainian promises to uphold the Minsk Agreement?
  16. You are absolutely correct. As an inducement for agreeing to German unification James Baker, then US Secretary of State, offered in an official memorandum “ironclad guarantees that NATO’s jurisdiction or forces would not move eastward,” He also said to Gorbachev “There would be no extension of NATO’s jurisdiction for forces of NATO one inch to the east." Since then NATO membership has expanded from the original 12 founding members to the current 30, mostly ex Soviet republics in the East. Russia has repeatedly warned that Ukraine joining NATO is unacceptable and would jeopardize everyone's security.
  17. As usual, the reporting misses the important information -- the COST to charge. There is an EV charging station at Cha-Am at the Shell petrol station on Phetchakasem Road. When I asked several months ago, it was free to charge.
  18. Basically - No. The Government Pharmaceutical Organizations so-called "THC Oil" has a similar amount of THC. Useless for treating conditions such as cancer, so the gov is misleading people. I use 16% THC oil for my cancer.
  19. You can't have medical marijuana without THC. Been using THC cannabis oil for years for my cancer.
  20. Please understand that "high net worth" individuals do not require health insurance because they know its a scam, so they self insure.
  21. The "O-X" requires insurance, and for someone in their 70s who self-insures I do not want to bother with that.
  22. They need to rethink this. As a high net worth retiree I might be interested but I do not have a pension as such but live on investment income. So I'm unable to show an income of 80k baht a month although my actual "income" is far in excess of that.
  23. Quite. And this 38-year old condo is much better built than any modern condo I've seen, with larger sized apartments and much more common area space which is impossible to reproduce these days due to the high land prices where the aim is to cram in as many small units as possible and sell at exorbitant prices. It's comparatively cheaper per sq. m. because Thais as a rule prefer new developments for speculation. No problem for me since I do not intend to sell and will leave it to my Thai wife of 28-years and daughter.
