I used to agree with you, but now I don't and nor does my Thai family. In my view reciprocity does not apply when the GDP per person is much lower here than in more developed countries. But even then, look at the ridiculously high house prices in say London which have crowded out the locals. I would be concerned about the Chinese buying up property here, as they have done for condos which I think has contributed to the high condo prices these days.

Yes, it is my choice. The air pollution is way ahead what it was 20 or 30 years ago. The public transport system is excellent and beats the congestion. Maybe you miss the hidden gems and amazing things going on. Try smiling if things don't meet your high expectations. Be happy wherever you are or go back from whence you came.

Obviously, private businesses may make their own decision about the matter, which is their right, but if a customer does not wish to wear a mask (like me), then they have the choice of going elsewhere. Here in BKK in the large malls I've been to, there are no restrictions or requirements, and nobody has asked me to wear a mask. Of course, nearly all Thais are still using them, but that is their choice. I have no complaints, and I do not find it "confusing" at all.
