  1. Happy Easter for all who care,

I went to MTT to get my 90 day as well as residence certificate to renew my 5 year driver's license on March 29th. If I understand correctly, both the residence certificate and the medical checkup for the driver's license are good for only one month, is that correct? I'm waiting to do the medical checkup until I receive the residence certificate because I'm assuming that's just a quick walk in and out procedure for the medical certificate. As of now, the Thai postal service has no information about the tracking number immigration gave me for the residence certificate, but I know I still have one more week as they said it takes 2 weeks. My main question is, is the residence certificate good for one month from the date I applied for it, which is March 29th, or one month from the date that I receive it? Next week is the Sonkran holiday and I'm assuming the DLT will probably be closed for a few days as well which should still give me a short window after the holiday, but I like to take care of things as soon as possible. Hope this makes sense, and thanks for the help.

  2. I'm making my way to the Muang Thong Immigration next week to get that Certificate of Residence to renew my 5 year Thai Driver's License and if they don't get their website up soon, I understand I can do my 90-day report there, correct?

and...I understand that COR is free, but they try to charge. What the going rate?

and...does anyone know if there's on-site parking or anything close & convenient to MT Immigration?

and...I understand my Thai Social Security Insurance does not cover the medical certificate for the driver's license renewal (they charge 360 baht) which is reasonable, but does there happen to be a cheap/convenient clinic near MT Immigration to get that medical certificate?

and...I usually renew my license at the HQ near Jatujak/Mochit and have never had any problems except for long waits. I understand I can now renew my license at other locations, and there's a DLT (Bangkok Area 4 NongJork Area) not far from my home. I renewed my car registration book there once & it was pretty quick. Does anyone have any experience renewing a driver's license there?

and...that's it. Sorry for so many questions my friends, just thought I would try to get all this information in one shot.

    Thanks for the help!

This is correct. I have a 30 year lease on our land/townhouse. Name's on the chanot as well. I always bring a copy for yearly extension and they always take it. We also had to specify the monthly rate and was told that 100thb was the least amount, so that's what we did. Surprisingly, this was all recommended by my mother-in-law to make me feel secure.

** a little off topic, but...does anyone know if my lease can be used as a proof or residence for renewing my driver's license?

and to add...I see some mention above of 30k-50k to have this done. I don't remember what I spent, but it couldn't have been more than a thousand baht or so to do ourselves at the little district office. Good you're doing some research before you jump to an agent or lawyer who will overcharge you for something you can do on your own. Isn't that why we're all here?

Yes, you can set up a 30 year + o lease from the house owner (wife/girlfriend) .

You will also have your name on the chanot.

  5. Hi,

For some reason, when I go to the dlt site (https://www.dlt.go.th/en/) it still says that all services have been suspended since March 2020, but I know that must not be true as I've read on here about people renewing their license. Anyway, of course I can't contact anyone through the phone number or hotline on the site and I can find most of the information I need, but I want to confirm a couple of things before I waste my time going there to renew my 5 year driver's license.

    1. Do I need my current USA driver's license to renew my 5 year Thai license which expires March 2021? I know I needed it when I first got my Thai license, but don't recall if I need it for renewing.

    2. I understand I can renew within 3 months before it expires & I've heard I can renew up to 1 year after it expires. Is this correct?

    3. I've always renewed at the main office near Chatuchak. Are there other locations I can renew, I live on Nawamin Rd., near Fashion Island.

Thanks for your time & information. Hope you all had a nice holiday season & hope you're all staying healthy.

There's no 7 days window anymore when doing it online. The new window is due date and up to 15 days early.

My bad then. I did my 90 days in July & understood there was still the 7 days window. I just noticed some big updates to the immigration site, I need to go through it to see what else is new. Thanks!

  7. The address that was posted above/below is still good. I did the mail-in thing for years & only had problems during the "great" flood & protests. The online system works for me now & is much more convenient. I was turned off at first by the hit & miss of it, but if you're patient, it should work. Try all browsers, mine usually goes through with Mozilla & sometimes IE. You definitely have to be within that 7 day period as well. I'm usually confirmed within 48 hours. 23+ years in Thailand. Hope you're all staying healthy!
