I live in Sydney Australia. A few years back, I had next-door neighbours who were from Yorkshire, England and they commented that I spoke “posh” English. I speak real ocker Australian I could not understand most of their conversation, they seem to have a language of their own. Nice people, friendly neighbours. A bar girl once told me she could not speak a word of English until she came working in a bar. She said it took about three weeks before she could get herself understood and converse a little and as time progressed she become quite proficient in the English language. A matter of survival.

I have noticed a lot of bars now don’t have a cup in front of you where they would place dockets of your alcohol purchases. It’s all done behind the bar and you are presented with the bill upon your leaving. I insist on paying my drinks as I go. Bar staff are not too happy with that arrangement because they know there’s less chance of them ripping you off.

She went back to her village for six weeks, came back to the old residence, two weeks after that, working in a bar, hooks up with a Western guy and she takes him back to her village and he is building her a home. Two months after the guy is dead she’s back on the game.
