  1. it is a rather far stretched assumpton that i only like football so therefore am an inferior dot on this earth.

people who enter chat rooms and assault the english language such as crmanje get on my goat. but . i would never say i dislike the man. that being the difference between people who can civilly socialise, and those with a deficient sense of humour. there is a difference between opinion and insult.

  2. so we have a new season started. and the match reports .......seems they no longer exist.

watching the repeat of the weekend game between crai and bec tero. watching it again. watched it live on sunday.

the owner must be considering a new approach to his team. hair pulling and emotional outbursts from the coach must be disturnbing.

especially when seen throughout the countryvia television and when the team, so early in the season, are fighting to stay in the tpl.

early days you might say, but the performances so far have me wondering if i am watching crutd or chiang rai fc. inept tactical and technical displays.

back in the 2nd division and on the way to the tpl, we were able to see a true team effort and spirit. a team physically able to compete for 90 minutes, and the desire to win. now? hmmmmm. the manager/owner needs to think long and hard about his investment for it is surely not being returned by the current structure of team development. 3 games 1 point equals failure at some area. the team is not performing to its ability or its monetary worth........a long hard look at all aspects of the playing/ coaching structure is surely needed. there is more to owning/managing a team than marketing. and even on that front, marketing may not be enough to fill seats with a disfunctioning team.

harsh words maybe....but harsh actions are required to get crutd to where, with the team and players they have, to where they should be.

it was a close game lost 3/2....the key word being lost. there was not a lot to be happy with. tactically, and again technically.

uilian staying on the field after such a knock being one of the tactical errors that stood out likedogs testes. fresh legs and a new style maybe would have given the team an edge. uilian is a good player, but sometimes you need to change things up. and if there isn't a player to step in, what depth does the squad have? scary to contemplate.

go crutd. i will cheer no matter what

  3. first game i've seen was last night. it was disapointing. might go so far as to say much "adu" about nothing.

i was worried when i heard cru had brought in african players. my experience from watching them play for other teams last year was that they felt obliged to be superstars. this seemed to be the case last night....a prima donna performance by the much feted adu......every freekick, he stood over the ball. unfortunately, in attacking positions, he took the kick. result. lollipop balls into the box that were a piece of cake for the keeper to take. don't know if he is the captain of the team or not, but, every time there was a dubious tackle made, who was in the referees or linesmans face. the team, most probably from instructions, seemed to have only one outlet in attack. you guessed it.i thought that might change when adu moved from the left to the right, but no, same old same old. next game i will take a stat sheet........passes completed, shots on goal, assists. similar to the stats shown after epl games........would paint a pretty damning picture me thinks. football is a team sport....last season cru were a great team......not saying they arent now.....only seen this one game, but the difference i noticed was the team relying on one player. having said that, adu did take the corner that resulted in the equaliser for cru......given the wasted balls he had played from dead ball situations, probably to be expected. i hope the cru of old return. i hope they return to playing team football and discover the form that took them to such great heights last term. go cru.

  4. anuban chiangrai has a very good reputation in town.

they are starting an english program for p1 next school year (may)

the school has a foreign staff of 6, and the school offers an english programme and an iec (intensive english course)

the graduating students from the english programme, a class of 27, all made the high school of their choice.

at the recent nakhon sawan academic competition, the school took home more medals than any other school represented.

it's position right in the middle of town is also a plus. (opposite the post office)

just thought i'd let you know, and good luck on the move.

  5. tonight new team chiang rai hills played thoeng. fc.

the result chiang rai hills 4 thoeng fc 3

the result even more significant as thoeng wish to become the new 2nd division team from the north.

a challenge being issued via the internet, in thai, on the cru website, to see who the 2nd best team in chiang rai is.

challenge accepted, and we won. this only after 6 weeks of training, and with a team made up of hill tribe youngsters mainly from maechan.

before the next game that cru play at home, chiang rai hills will play thoeng fc as the curtain raiser.

if you love football as i do. please come and support the 2nd best team in chiang rai.

a claim made before the match by thoeng fc.

the boys played with great heart and compassion to win the game, and even only 6 weeks after being formed as a team, played with a maturity beyond ther age.

by the way. go cru. a great result against loei, and i hope to see the same support for cru from the chiang rai community as was evident the last game out.

    cru soo soo.

  6. this is such a worthwhile project.

the infrastructure that has been put in place, the time, money and expertise brought to the project deserve all the support people can give.

another well devised project from a very capable and caring man.

    way to go gerry

  7. here it is....at last.

big thankyou to maxnet.no internet for 2 days which also meant no foreign t.v.

    as limbo said above

imo the best form of defence, especially when you are in the lead, is attack.

cru played possession football in the first half. quite easy when none of the opposition

enters your half. cru where patient and took the opportunities that came their way. the 3 goals were well taken.

the second half.......hmmmm......it seems that cru were told to go out and defend the lead.

this is all well and good if you have a team that is totally focussed, and a team drilled in marking space when the ball is not on your side of the park.

both phetchabun goals came after the ball was on phetchabun's left side for a length of time.

with a switch to their right, the cru left fullback and midfielder had been drawn to the ball resulting in a free run on goal.

to play defensively requires 100% concentration, thus meaning instead of marking man to man, sometimes you have to mark the space. something the team will have to work on if they are going to use those tactics in the future.

again, as limbo said above, a good night out. a chance to socialise with other farang, and a chance to watch some sport in an organised way. many thanks to rico, giving the orange supporters the chance to stock the eskies before the trip to mae fah luang.

  8. hiring a car ,i think, is the best way to see any part of thailand.

having your own transport means you can go where you want to go, and see what you want to see.

take any road that you think looks interesting.

there are many places, roads around c/rai that aren't on the tour companies lists. a suzuki 4wd gives you the freedom to get off road, not serious off roading, but dirt roads that just spike your interest.

i have found a lot of places by doing just that. there is a lot to see outside of the tour co's itineraries.

also the chance to meet real people. the people who aren't part of the tour companies package.

hire a car, pick a direction, and take off. north or n/east would be my suggestion. out to wards phaya maengrai, and explore. there is a lot to see. depending on what type of thing you want to see of course.

but for natural beauty and unseen thailand. hiring a car is the way to go.

it's not dangerous, and as said above, you also get to meet some nice people away from the tourist areas.

  9. smoking in an airport??

    problems where to do it?

i'm a smoker, have been amazed at how many people i have seen smoking right next to a "no smoking" sign.

last time i flew out, 2 chinese, i assume, men were told by security personell to put out their cigarettes.

they did. and as soon as he walked away, and they stopped laughing, lit up again.

has anyone ever heard of someone being fined 2,000 baht for breaking the no smoking rule??

if i were game enough, i would just light up. but i ain't. ain't game enough or asian.

  10. coach i think is the most important.

someone mentioned losing a football match and then celebrating. <deleted>. celebrating a massive loss?

training, practice and putting in the hard yards. something that it seems this pommy team aren't doing.

looking at the results. bit like the world cup football. shopping and sight seeing to the fore.

    hard work you pommy boys.

wonder what they, the pommy team, are doing today? bit hard to practice on the ferry to taronga park zoo,

or in the revolving restaurant atop centrepoint tower.

would be interested to compare the training regime of both camps. fitness and commitment go hand in hand :o

  11. webster.

associating yourself with other teachers here????

2 years in and know the scene.

worst post i've seen on any post. as far as massive generalisatons are concerned.

10 years in, and nothing like you describe "most"

just read your post again web. ###### off ######

  12. as with above. charades.

down the line charades. that is, those in the group stand in a line. you show them the action, eg: a customer very upset. and then they tap the person in front on the shoulder. that person turns around to recieve the mime. the person at the end has to say what is happening. if they fail, ask the next person along until you get the answer.

mix it up a bit by throwing in some fun ones. a monkey eating a banana, someone putting on make up.

gets a laugh, lots of laughs, and there is a grammar , speaking focus on the continuous tense.

    just an idea. good luck.

  13. role play.

either written sheets handed out or elicited role play scenarios.

    response/reaction to various situations.

the use of informal and formal language.

    ????????????????????????

used these with rajas on an english camp. went down well with the students and the management.

remember. in most cases, even college, fun seems to be the measuring stick when it comes to measuring the performance of the organiser.

  14. will they test english ability?

only asking because of past experience.

inherited a class from an indian woman.

the students were all saying 'ay'pple.

that is what they had been taught.

when pointed it out, told by admin not to question her, she has an ma, you only have a b.a.

my b.a. isin english. her m.a. is in forestry management.

plus, she understands asian culture. don't question. do.

i wonder if there will be any acceptance of western pedagogy.

or if thai pedagogy will be the only accepted answers when it comes to classroom management, protocol? for eg: i don't require my s's to stand when i enter the room. the s's don't have to crawl to my desk.

i encourage them to ask questions, and i tell them to think.

not thai teaching pedagogy, in a lot of situations, not all, but it will take a while for the old school teachers to fade away.

isn't bringing our culture to the classroom part of the deal?

i always approached this as part of my job.

what is the answer? acceptable for testing purposes, if that is what we are all going to face?

bit of a rant. sorry. these are testing times for teachers. no pun intended.

and at my school,"yes" there will be a test. don't know when. think you will have to study at raja during the next holidays. or maybe weekends. don't know.

been here for ten years now. degreed/tesolled, and i don't know what the future holds. started a dip.ed from a uni back home just in case. i love teaching and see it as my future. hopefully here, if not, back home. also giving the wife ielts lessons. don't want to leave her here if it comes to that. and want her to be able to continue her career as well.

  15. that is really sad. he was a coach in australia as well. melbourne. as a player, i had the opportunity to meet the man. despite the gruff appearance, a heart of gold. will be sorely missed. his playing days were before i was aware of him. had seen some old footage, a great talent. rate him along side leo baumgartner as one of the best players of that era. european that is.
