  1. that is really sad. he was a coach in australia as well. melbourne. as a player, i had the opportunity to meet the man. despite the gruff appearance, a heart of gold. will be sorely missed. his playing days were before i was aware of him. had seen some old footage, a great talent. rate him along side leo baumgartner as one of the best players of that era. european that is.

  2. just read through this thread.

have to agree with you'll only find out by trying it line of thinking.

and what you teac is important also. just speaking and listening, or grammar related topics. if grammar related, some study, not only a tefl course, self study that is, would be beneficial.

nothing worse than being in an environment where you can't answer the questions; oyher than that's what we say type answers.

    good luck

  3. been hit with the responsibility again this year. do something in english for xmas.

last year went down like a lead balloon. non ep classes doing their usual song and dance, along with jilted girlfriends or hurt mums.

so this year, 2 plays from m2, and 2 songs from m1.

put some thought into the plays. and then wrote santa and his bufallo, the reindeer conk out over thailand because of the heat. santa phones reindeer isuzu and they replace the deer with bufalloes.

santas happy new mia. santas missus is really nagging him. the elves chip in and get him a new mia.

both plays, so far have met with applause at rehearsal. partly because we are, this year,

presenting in both english and thai. got the kids to do their own translation.

recorded the script onto cd because of the size of the venue, and the lack of microphones at the venue. too hard with 2 mics and a cast that puts benhurr to shame.

can you write anything appropriate yourself. suitable for their english, and their performing ability.

good luck and merry christermus :o

  4. although i'm not a pom, the posts above bring back memories. grew up in the hunter valley of nsw australia. must have been the only town in nsw that had the real football as the tows sport.

every sunday during the winter months, my family would wake up and get ready for the 3 o'clock kick off. home or away. don't think we missed a match all through my childhood. loved it! every kid at school wanted to be a "bear" name of the team.

as for leaving los to be able to experience it again. no way. too much to lose over here. as with some other posts on here, don't want to work and lose 33% in tax. struggle to pay the bills.and generally have to watch the p's and q's everywhere. espn and star sports on sat and sunday, and a little reminiscing fill the hole.

  5. redrus.

agree with what you are saying, to a point.

not only in best's case , but in many others, the points remembered are all that seem to be remembered, the good points that is.

yes, a great footballer, no doubt about that, but a drunken idiot as well.

not meant in a way other than the truth.

maybe his pic on aa posters, or family violence promo material, helpgroups that is, might use his fame to help others.

  6. how do they judge teachers???

just speaking from my own experience, if you have a go at your job, you are respected/ or rather expected to work harder.

been my experience in 3 government schools. english camps, presentations in english, brochures for the school.

and for what? the same incentive as the indian/ phillipino staff who can't, or wont do the work.

they, admin that is, seem to think that your being asked to do the work ,is reward enough. enough for entrenched thai staff, not for me.

sad thing is it's starting to happen at my new school as well. one person, me, to organise all, i do mean all, extra curicullar activities. when i asked why. you can.late nights, weekend work. this is my experience of how assessment is made in thai schools.

if you say no. still on the same incentive as the rest. also, thai assessment comes down to how thick a wad of paper they can amasss. welcome to the paperless environment. recognition in a human sense does not exist. the feudal system is definitely the go. thus. farang=nothing. nothing to worry about, we will get another one. just a trip to the bus station or airport. blonde. can you teach. you'll do, if you do it. :o

  7. up.

    agree 100%

lifestyle is , i think the major factor. just been speaking to a friend who moved to bangers to get more money. 20k a month more than up here in the sticks. surprise surprise. he's no better off. i then have to listen to his "bar girl" exploits, his sizzler adventure, and nana travel stories.

lifestyle. 35k up here in the sticks, i am the king.
