You could use your non-b visa to work for another company if you got permission from the one that supported your application.

Thank you. You mean a letter? I doubt that would be possible, as they were very unsympathetic that I was unable to begin work a few weeks ago due to a heart attack, and I doubt they'll welcome hearing from me again with a request for a letter.

I'm on the mend now and hoping to begin applying for jobs elsewhere next month.

You cannot do 1 so 2 is not needed and 3 is not possible.

You could check with your local office about applying for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement or marriage to a Thai. All that required to apply is a non immigrant visa entry.

Thank you. I have just under two months left on the non b and haven't transferred 400k/800k from overseas yet, so probably can't use that option.

NON O visa for reason of being over 50 via an embassy OVERSEAS?
yes, only needs be there one day will get ya a 90 day Non O visa

    Extensions 2 months in advance

so gives ya time to have it seasoned.

No, in country. I thought the visa obtained at embassies overseas is called an oa and needs proof of funds in that country, not Thailand.

  4. I have a non-b which was obtained in country last month for a job offer that in the end didn't come to fruition. This non-b helps me in that I don't need to leave Thailand by Saturday (it expires in late November), but it's also stopping me switching to a non o retirement or marriage because the TM86 and TM87 type forms are only for tourists and there isn't a form that covers a conversation of my initial non b to non o.

    Questions

    1) Can I cancel my non b next month?

    2) If so, do I need a letter from the employer that applied for it even though I never ended up working there?

    3) If I can cancel it, will I become a tourist and be given 7 days to submit a non-o application? If not, what situation would I face?

    Thanks so much.

When having entered Thailand Visa Exempt or on a Tourist Visa and applying at your local IO for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement (you still need at least 15 days left on your permission to stay at the moment of application) and using the 800K funds-in-bank method, you need to provide evidence of the foreign oriigins of the funds.

When already on a Non Imm O Visa and applying for the 1-year extension of stay for reason of retirement, and when using the 800K funds-in-bank method, you only need to provide evidence that the funds have been seasoned on your personal thai bank-account for at least two months at the moment of application (with no need to prove the foreign origins of the funds).

So to clarify, when applying for the initial 3 month non o retirement, you can transfer the 800k from overseas the day before?

The agent route is best for me and several others I know of.I once talked to an agent and she said her fee of 12k , 10 k went to her immigration contact and she only received 2 k ?

It's an entirely selfish route and takes away the incentive for IOs to operate in a fair manner with foreigners who wish to do things by the book, because refusing them means they can get rich via corruption.

Very speculative and unlikely. Only visas 'sold' in Thailand are the conversion of an entry (TV or Exempt) to non-Imm-O, and Elite.

These are unusual times. With people unable to travel on to neighbouring countries and return later with a tourist visa, it makes sense for immigration to take over and sell the visas that the nearby embassies and consulates normally sell. They're going to have little else to do soon with comparatively few foreigners left in the country.

Not a bad call. Assuming for most tourists who have used their embassy letter, that it won't just be their last extension - things won't magically go back to normal back home over the next 30 days, hence they'll probably show up at immigration again with the same letter hoping for another month (and so on). The logical way to proceed is to give them the option of buying an STV sometime in October, considering they've been in the country since atleast March and are COVID-free. This would give them until Jan 2021 and who knows how things will be then. You can't often associate logic with the people in charge of making these decisions though..

It would make sense. Instead of having to turn up with an embassy letter for a 30 day extension, they could turn up with proof of three months of pre-paid accommodation or something similar as a means test to getting a 90 day STV. That should help to weed out those working illegally to fund their "tourism".

  9. I believe the intention is to remove the majority of tourists this month who really should have returned to their home countries by now, and then announce something new after 26 September for those tourists still legally here on extension letters. Perhaps they'll be offered the option of buying a new 90 day STV.  Those still here illegally are going to be bolstering the government coffers with some large fines.

If you have the financial proof to apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement you may be able to apply using the visa you were issued by immigration.

You need to check with the office that issued the visa about it and explain the reason you are not working.

Seeking clarification. Can't I simply apply for a new 3 month in-country non-o based on retirement? I believe that people on amnesty, and usually those on tourist visas can, so can't I?

  11. I was on 30 day entry stamp amnesty until last month when I was offered a job. The employer obtained a non b for me at the local immigration office which is valid until late November. However, I started suffering from a health problem before the 1 September job start date so I didn't begin work or apply for a work permit, and I decided to retire instead. I'm over 50. What are my options to stay in the country?
