  1. Thanks for the info. Regards John
  2. Hi @Sheryl SBC Insurance are offering cover with limited cover for pre-existing conditions. Do you know them? John
  3. @SherylI have COPD and heart failure. I live in Thailand all year round.
  4. Has anyone got any recommendations for healthcare insurance providers, who would look at over 70's and emergency cover for pre-existing conditions. private rooms not necessary, just good quatity care. Thanks
  5. Thanks, edwardflory. So, work permit is needed - even for short term.
  6. Hi. I'm not checking the sanity of the plan but the legality. Do you have advice on that?
  7. Hi, A friend's son wants to come to Thailand to do a few weeks volunteering teaching English. The volunteering company has said it's ok to come over on the tourist visa or on a visa-exempt basis and not bother with a work permit. My understanding is that it is necesssary to have a volunteer visa and get a work permit, even for a few weeks. The company has said noone checks and not to worry about getting official paperwork. Does anyone have anyknowledge, experience or advice on this?
  8. They needed witnesses and a certified copy of the passport.
  9. We finalised our Marriage Registration at Laksi District Office yesterday. We went there at the end of Feb and they offered a date of 12th April to do the registration. They only carry out a few foreigner/Thai marriages and hence the time between booking and registration. A very simple procedure and done by very helpful and kind people (including the car park attendants). So, if a wait isn't a problem, Laksi gets the thumbs-up from me.
  10. The answer is probably somewhere else but, for retirement extension, does one need 800,000 baht in the bank for two or three months before application? Thanks John
  11. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm waiting for my divorce paperwork from UK, so can't make appointment at UK Embassy yet. We'll try to get things registered ourselves first and only use an agent if things drag out too long - I really need it fixed by August, so I can get a marriage visa, changing from retirement extension.
  12. Hi. My fiancé has called Sathorn and they're saying there will be a wait before an appointment is made but won't specify how long...... Seems like we'll have to wait for a scheduled appointment, wherever we go. Thanks, everyone for your input. J.
  13. My fiancée called Bangrak Amphur about marriage registration and was told we'll have to leave the paperwork and it'll take about three weeks before being called back - so, no same-day service. An agent says she can get it all done on the same day for a fee of 8,000 baht. Laksi Amphora wants up to three months to get things done! Seems like there's quite a few variations of service.
  14. Yes, my local Amphur needed loads of stuff....too complicated.
  15. ps. I asked an agent and they wanted 37,000 baht for the whole process!
  16. Congratulations
  17. Thanks, everyone, for the advice.
  18. Thanks - I'll ask.
  19. Hi, I'm getting married soon and want to know the best Amphur to use to register it. I tried Laksi and they say submit paperwork, wait two months and get called in for the registration. I live in Bang Pa In and that was less helpful! I hear some places just ask you to turn up and job done. Anyone with recent experience who can offer advice? Thanks John
  20. Thanks for the info. Regards, J.
  21. Hi, When doing a Visa Extension based on retirement does one have to keep 800 k in the bank for three months or two months prior to application? Thanks J.
