The fact is real tourists stay less than 2 weeks, and take holidays when the kids have holidays, summer and Christmas. This is the world over.
For long stay tourists or snowbirds ( people staying through the western winters) there could  be a 90 day visa which can be extended once at immigration, and this visa should be available online !!! No running to Thai embassies or  waiting ( sometimes endlessly) for the sticker to arrive. Lots of countries have an online system, Myanmar ( when one could travel) Cambodia, Indonesia, Australia etc . Thailand technology is not capable of doing a simple online application visa online !! Hell, get in the foreign tech experts , do something that works for once !  Nobody is worried about getting an online visa if it is a simple process.

Tourist Visa application has got much simpler since November 2023. Have a look. Its a doddle

No Chinese blue collar or lower middle class people are thinking about vacationing abroad.

One of China's biggest wealth management firms, Zhongzhi, just declared insolvency, with over $64 billion debt vs under $30 billion assets.  This is the beginning of China's Banking & Financial Services collapse, which is following their Real Estate bubble bursting.

Few want to spend money when everything is up in the air about their future.

Oh dear I'm absolutely heart broken

Yeah, it's gonna keep dropping.  My recent experience at immigration renewing retirement visa only adds to my feeling that falangs are not wanted here.  Grade A tourist, 15 yrs in, plenty of money, never a problem for the authorities and they are giving me the 3rd degree treatment like I'm a common criminal and they are just looking for something, anything to trip me up and give them their "gotcha" moment and out I go.  One can only take so much of the abusive attitude here.

Should have stayed a Snowbird Tourist. 6 months about. Best way

I can only but disagree with you I am afraid to say. I do apologise but this is why.

Back in 2014 I came for a holiday to Thailand with the flights all done on my Lloyds Bank card which automatically included travel insurance. I met my future wife in BKK and flew up to Chiang Mai. Long story short, I contracted diverticulitis which involved MRI and CT scans, 2 major life saving ops in Lanna Hospital, missed flights home, which were rebooked, hotel charges, bank charges and exchange rate charges. Total bill came to over £7k!
On return to UK I submitted all the paperwork from the hospital, itemized bill, flight bookings for me and the then g/f, who was returning just to BKK, all bank charges and within 2 weeks had that amount plus extra back in my bank account. Absolutely sterling service and these are the ones that people do not hear about! Only the misfortunes are shouted about.

As far as I'm aware Lloyds of London is not a Thai bank. Read the poster's headline

    Good post ...
Contrary to a lot of speculation on the topic, threads like "Change in the tax law does target expats living in Thailand" ... I actually think they are after bigger fish, multi-national companies that do annual remittances of last years off-shore earnings.

I don't see it effecting a lot of pensioners as you have pointed out DTA's, who knows the eventual outcome?  Perhaps to avoid complicating things for us and themselves, they will simply leave retirees alone - some combination of they don't want to discourage current/future retirees and it more trouble than it is worth.

    Only time will tell ....

More trouble than it's worth 🤣😂🤣 don't worry they'll gouge every baht humanly possible. Nothing new there business as usual 🤣😁😅

  6. Only answer is surgery, best £2000 I ever spent in the UK. Had the operation done many years ago, never had the slightest problem since. Whether I'd trust the Cowboys in Thailand is a different story. Recovery not pleasant especially first few bowl movements, but get it done because the alternative I know is miserable. good luck

Yes they do. It's called business class. Arrived last week. 5 minutes for immigration and my checked bags were both on the carousel within the first 30 bags.

Btw, talking to a lady I know that rents scooters, she says very little rented compared to last year. Funny though it was quite difficult to find a condo. All pretty much full for a 5 month rental.

Tough luck, I have travelled economy to Thailand on many occasions and twice my bag has been first to appear on the carousel 😅🤣😅
