SURVEY: What are your biggest issues in Thailand?
smi11ie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have largly come to terms with the driving stuff. The thing that annoys me now are the waiting times at the land office and such. -
My wife completed her biometrics on March 3rd. It was her first application for a visit visa. I still have not heard anything, nothing at all. We had planned to visit my parents in Scotland but I gave up on that idea several weeks ago, instead my parents arrive in Thailand next week. I didn't pay the £2.** for an update because I heard they are pointless. My wife is a teacher and she gets another holiday in October so, if she gets the visa, we will visit Scotland at that time. I feel pretty dissapointed with the home office, but at the same time I think the Ukranian people deserve priority. We have waited 8 weeks already and I fully expect to wait another month or so.

Did Joe arrange for the cars to be stolen, transported into Thailand, seized, sold and distribute the profits? The whole thing is very complicated. Where did he get the time? Maybe all of his time is spent planning criminal activity which is quite funny really. On another note I had to pay 300 baht for an expired tax disc. It was the wife's car. Do the police also get a % of traffic fines?

Wow that's great news. I hope I don't misspell anything whilst rainbow surfing on my invisible unicorn. -
Most Thais in public office dream of getting a huge, life-changing bribe. It is the reason that many people have for working in a police or government post. To ask them to prosecute someone for that very thing must feel wrong. For many bribes (extortion) is their main source of income. I know an immigration officer in Buriram who extorts everyone. He only got 2000 from me but a very wealthy friend of mine got stung for 15,000. The officer determines the size of the bung from your bank statement, which he always examines at the start of the application. Doesn't matter if your application is perfectly sound. I have decided not to get upset by these stories of corruption and just laugh them off. I don't want to have any dealings with the police or government here because I am afraid they will extort me. It is definitely a downside of life in Thailand but I still prefer living here more than the UK.

Joe Ferrari case: Death of suspect was by asphyxiation, not drug overdose
smi11ie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Wife said he was also involved in some sort of online gambling business. The guy hasn't earned an honest baht in his life. Surely there wil be an investigation and he would have to show proof of earnings to explain his massive wealth. Lol, or maybe not. I am sure he will cut a deal with the victim's family and the court. Might even have to sell one of his sports cars. I am going to bet he stays employed by the police force although he might be moved from his current post. -

He might be worth 15 million dollars but his boss is worth over 100 million dollars. The police force can be a very lucrative career. You do have to pay massive amounts for promotions and high level positions. It seems to work more like an organised crime syndicate rather than a police force. I doubt he will do any time and he will have a nice nest egg built on murder, theft and corruption. What a life! That is just the way of it here. It won't ever change.- 151 replies
