  1. So she travelled with a visa associated with an expired passport? Presumably she entered Australia on her new passport - which was not associated with a visa on arrival? Sounds risky/lucky. Congratulations to your friend's girlfriend on her success - maybe she should buy a lottery ticket while she's here!
  2. 'Notary Public' are the magic words ... thanks again norbra and the Bang Na reference especially appreciated!
  3. Believe things have changed, no mention of ‘self-certified’ nowadays … IMMI apparently need certified copy from immigration lawyer or equivalent to JP … but there is no obvious equivalent to a JP in Thailand …
  4. No they won’t. Australia dropped physical visa stamps a while ago. Visa is recorded on IMMI computer, not in passport at all.
  5. My Thai partner has a so-far-unused 3 year tourist visa for Australia. Her passport has expired and she's had it renewed, no problem there. To update the Australian IMMI system she needs to obtain good quality scan of passport cover page and the photo page ... this is clear to her but she's having difficulty with the concept of getting those two items certified as 'true copies'. Nothing needs translation - simply stamped or signed in English as being 'true copies'. We've had much to and fro-ing about the difficulty finding a lawyer to stamp and sign them, x thousand baht required etc. This stuff is easy-peasy in Australia - official documents like this can be witnessed by a wide range of people - JP, doctor, post officer etc etc ... and usually for free. Her village is near Uttaradit and she'll be visiting Bangkok soon to stay with family in the Bang Na area. Any clues who can help her near either area? Anyone got a list (preferably in Thai) of officials who are acceptable to Australian IMMI that i can pass on to her? Alternatively, an example of somebody's 'true copy' stamp' would be nice. Australian IMMI (uncharacteristically ha ha) not being too helpful.
  6. Help wanted. Someone at AseanNow seems to be stuck in the 1950’s …
  7. Strong woman defending herself against an obnoxious male. Why not? Welcome to the new century my dinosaur friend ???? Hope someone donated the 1,000 baht fine (and then some) to her for her public service.
  8. My victims? I like to stitch up any holes and pump them full of helium. Bit of glitter makes for fun ???? decorations this time of year … post-Xmas just let them float away on the breeze …
  9. Metaverse? Crypto?? I wonder if this boomer even knows what the terms mean? Put Thailand into a virtual universe and pay for your experience using a virtual currency and actual meat-based tourist numbers drop off to … errr … let’s see … about zero.
  10. Anyone know if this works with an expired (I think October 2021) Thai passport?
  11. If you only need one PC or laptop active at a time why not just buy a cheap used iPhone (likely you’ve already got one in a drawer), put the data SIM card in that and tether it to PC or laptop via a USB cable, set up HotSpot on the iPhone in a couple of clicks? Good for 2 or 3 mb/second depending on your coverage area. Multiple devices? Check out Connectify software which allows your PC or laptop to act as a wifi router to share the hotspot with other devices.
  12. ha. I like the upside-down experiment … often thought that’s how I’ve been operating for a while now … Seriously fascinating though … how for example the brain figures out what a sharp image is. I’ll add this topic to a very long list of stuff to research further. Thanks.
  13. Hmm sounds like your cloudy vision gave you a silver lining ???? Yup, South Coast generally is hard to beat but I reckon we’ve both got lucky in places to live!
  14. Wow 3 months is remarkable, I’m in NSW too, between Nowra and Woolongong and lots of hospitals and told to expect 1 year+ wait. Can I ask where in NSW you are? I may move.
  15. That’s probably the best advice when it comes down to lens selection etc. but thanks to all who have contributed experiences and particularly details of prices … that local knowledge is invaluable. I’m inclined to avoid the extra risk of multifocal cataract lenses after reading some of those comments … I have no problem continuing to use multifocal glasses after any op. I find it actually a benefit using specs dealing with some people … take them off and it’s nice the other person gets fuzzier … Still curious how the multifocal implanted lens works though … when focus shifts say from a near to a far object, is the eyeball swivelling around like a chameleon or does all the adjustment occur inside the eye/brain?
  16. Good idea to load the laptop up with porn too … the grubbier the better.
  17. You don’t say anything about your prior familiarity with Thailand but it’s pretty common knowledge that Thailand does not recognise de facto relationships. Doesn’t matter what the length or depth of relationship, in Thailand you are either a married couple or two single people. While this may or may not be an issue here, you certainly need to be aware that Thailand is still catching up in this area if you are planning a longer-term stay.
  18. Aggressive? Hardly. Sharing my actual experience and asking questions about yours? Yup. Guilty. Offering cheap and easy and practical alternatives to buying a PSU? Certainly.
  19. Asking on social media about buying crypto on a credit card? Hope you’ve got your Senninbai scarf sorted. Banzaiiii!!!!
  20. Hedge your bets … swap it for ‘2’ with a bit of cash your way …
