  1. If you compare other countries figures you can see that the government are using the pandemic to cover up the damage caused by Brexit. For instance - no shortages in supermarkets on the continent.
  2. Sorry there aren't any - try saying one yourself = without looking really dumb.
  3. Either you are joking or you have no understanding of how the EU works - it is typical of the ignorance that surrounded Brexit. UK was on track to be the biggest economy in the Eu, now it is a vassal of the US of A. it is typical of Brexit arguments that they basically use falsehoods and nebulous misconceptions to justify a situation that has hard, clear drawbacks that categorically show that Brexit isn't working, it is damaging both the UK economy and the UK itself.
  4. It's mazing that there is no-one who can cite an upside to Brexit....ever.....yet they still think it was a good idea....what kind of mind is that??
  5. I used to claim tax back as I cumulatively spent more that 30 days outside UK. however you have to bear in mind that you can no longer do picks for return journeys, certainly if they are within the EU. Your vehicle can be restricted to the number of trips per year. As we no longer share the same VAT computers as the EU even though goods are not subject to "duties" they have to be documented for VAT and tracing purposes. If you pick up one load of beef or any bulk load the documentation is quite simple but it has still cause delays. However if you are a mixed load or groupie the paperwork can resemble the Lord of the Rings volumes. The days when a transport company from UK could start a run in UK and then continue through various pickups and drop-offs around EU before returning to UK are over. Because of the cost of documentation and delays at borders the exercise becomes non-profitable for hauliers in general. They also used to rely on paying relatively low salaries to EU drivers who now no longer feel they want to spend any extended length of time in the UK. you may have noticed that warehouses in UK are not vocmplaining yet of having no space - this is because goods is,[pl;y aren't coming into the UK at. It also affects goods coming from outside the EU - such as sports goods, white goods and electronics - they are sent to distribution centres in the EU but then require another set of documents to proceed to UK. All this costs and eventually results in the goods not being sent (or bought) It also works the other way - people trying to buy goods from the UK are is,ply giving up due to the long delays that are now becoming permanent/ Why do you think they need a truck part and permits in Kent?
  6. There is no "upside" or benefit from Brexit. Never was, never will be
  7. "Get over it" - probably the most facile and overworked cliche of the last 5 years
  8. Seriously? - Before Brexit there was no problem with Biden's/Democrats attitude to trade with UK as we were in the EU. What Biden is considering now may be better than Trump but it's still LESS than if we were in the EU.
  9. How can a county that requires the army to supply them with food be regarded as a functional nation? 1000s of finance jobs going overseas. Almost total collapse of the fishing industry Imports are now being strangled Supermarket shelves empty or filled with one item where there used to be several. Return of Phone roaming charges Ending of Freedom of movement Closure of Honda and other motor factories New projects moved to EU Thousands of workers leaving the country. imports stalled by paperwork. 200 trucks a day turned back huge truck parks in Kent overflowing. supply chains disrupted and broken disrupted by increased bureaucracy and costs. Hauliers refusing to deliver to UK. Anyone who thinks these are teething problems as in a new baby is sadly deluded - these are teething problems as in kicked in the teeth by an ideologically obsessed government the Brexit festival has been renamed to Festival UK 2022 (= FUK2022 !?!?!)
  10. "resources can be better spent fixing the bigger problems rather than banning people from wearing sunscreen ridiculous." ... your first statement indicates you don't understand the extent of damage caused by sunscreens and nano-particles it would seem it's not to be dismissed. Then when I explained how this problem has been addressed elsewhere you said "Sorry l thought the article was about Thailand" - the implication appears to be that looking elsewhere for aid information was a waste of time or off topic. I would beg to differ. It would appear you still aren't aware of how big the problem is or that they are already trying to address the plastics problem and theses issues don't have to be dealt with one at a time - a false dichotomy, I'd say. Te fact that foreign tourist are not comeimg or that the parks in many places have been closed doesn't really seem that relevant. surely it's best that the DNP prepares in advance for the return of tourism It is my strongly held belief that the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation is pretty incompetent and that this measure has not been thought out or introduced correctly - ...I also believe that like many issues in DNP it has been ignored for too long and management and funding are not up to the job. However if Thailand is ever to successfully preserve their natural resources they need to buck up their ideas do proper research and get better informed - a bit like you?
  11. Yes - it is about the legislation or dictum concerning the banning of sunscreen. You have tried to make a false dichotomy by suggesting it isn't a big problem and we should forget this and concentrate on another eco-problems . However, your premise that it isn't a big problem is false. This is shown by information from the Great Barrier Reef in Oz where the damage to reefs by sunscreen has been monitored, quantified and shown - and in the process the quantity of particles deposited by tourism has been calculated. Thailand is notoriously bad at gathering and collating statistics pertaining to environment and conservation, so it would seem to be a good idea to look elsewhere to see how serious these problems can be. Thailand at its peak had over 40 million tourists, a large proportion of whom visit the marine national parks there and logically the effects can safely be compared to that of visitors on other reefs around the world where more careful, scientific monitoring has taken place. In many issues including wildlife and conservation, Thailand fails to take advice from outside the Kingdom. This is to their own cost....they ignore this information at their peril. The fact that they have just relied on a sudden dictum reinforces the impression that the problem here hasn't been sufficiently researched nor has the methodology for it's implementation. This will result in poor enforcement, disgruntled tourists and continued damage. It is unfortunate that you like so many Thai officials choose to ignore the helpful information that is really available from other countries and therefore don't act on it appropriately
  12. Janis Joplin. Lyrics Oh Lord, won't you buy me A Mercedes Benz? My friends all drive Porsches I must make amends I worked hard all my lifetime No help from my friends Oh Lord, won't you buy me A Mercedes Benz? Oh Lord, won't you buy me A color tv? Dialing For Dollars Is trying to find me I wait for delivery Each day until three Oh Lord, won't you buy me A color tv? Oh Lord, won't you buy me A night on the town? I'm counting on you, Lord Please don't let me down Show me you love me And buy the next round Oh Lord, won't you buy me A night on the town? Oh Lord, won't you buy me A Mercedes Benz? My friends all drive Porsches I must make amends I worked hard all my lifetime No help from my friends Oh Lord, won't you buy me A Mercedes Benz?
  13. Sadly, these stories are just the tip of the iceberg and Thailand is the hub.
  14. when your skin starts to produce more melanin, it means that regardless of skin colour it is responding to damage that has already occurred. Enough of this damage can lead to skin cancers of various kinds - some are fatal.
  15. the problem of Sunscreen on reefs is VERY big. thousands of tons are deposited on the Great Barrier Reef and the place is in danger of losing it's WH status.
  16. probably realised he'd banned himself?
  17. I used to meet a Porsche whilst cam[ing and we inevitably talked about the cars he sold. He, himself had a Mercedes. Porsches were out of his pay scale. A genie legal imported Porsche would have 300% taxes, duties and fees added to the vehicle price before it could go on the road.
  18. Mozzies have never been shown to be attracted to light sources. (some gizmo manufacturers may erroneously or misleadingly claim this). other insects are and if a mozzie drifted in it might get killed.
  19. you need to review your personal observations and replace them with critical thinking. Mosquitoes aren't attracted to light per se, they are attracted to CO2..... they may become disorientated in street lights which might affect their flying patterns. Of course some other insects ARE attracted to lights and you will see groups in the glow of street lights. with mosquitoes, after they sense your CO2 they begin to close in - then they "see" you, as a silhouette (against the light?) and finally they use a heat sensor to plunge in. Remember that only the female bites and this is for protein to grow their eggs. When thy lay they like to be near a water source where they will lay eggs in or very close to. Dengue mozzies seldom fly more than a few hundred feet from their source. Removing standing water from a property will help reduce the numbers flying around.
  20. Yes - but when alive some people are more "visible" to mozzies than others - basically female mozzies have evolved a set of senses to find a buffalo in the dark ...so the less you look or behave like that, the better.
  21. Mosquitoes need ATTRACTING - if you break any of the 3 stages, CO2, silhouette and body heat., you will have less problems.
