  1. A few days ago a male dog arrived on my land.  He cowered for a few days in one corner as my 6 dogs didn't make him very welcome (of course!).
I fed him there and asked locally if anyone knew where he is from but no one recognises him.

He is obviously not a soi dog and is very happy with people and now tries to come into the house so he has history of being allowed into a home.

He has a lovely temperament and looks around 3 years old.  I cannot keep him as I have 6 dogs and that already is too many really.

I plan to get this new dog neutered tomorrow and then he is going to need a home.
I have taken puppies to the local temple before but this dog has known a home and been a pet so it is too cruel to dump him at a wat or shelter.

Can anyone here help?  If someone would like a ready grown pet who is friendly (I have 2 children and he is great around them, plus no problem around other dogs, very sociable and not aggressive) then this dog is perfect.

If you are only here for a year or 2 and would like a pet in that time I can always take him back once you have left Thailand.

    Or any other suggestions please?

  2. I agree with a couple of the other posters that Pig n Whistle in Jomtien does a very good brekkie.  I'm a vegetarian so I like the bubble and squeak but my meat eating friends and family all love the bacon and sausages there.
Also the Continental Bakery opposite does a good variety of different breakfasts such as Swiss, Scottish, French, Texan etc.  Been going there for 14 years and whilst the breakfast menu hasn't changed it does mean that what they do is always consistent!  Lovely fresh bread too :-) They have 3 outlets.

  4. Not sure about other countries but the International Driving Permit from the UK is a joke.  A paper booklet with a handwritten expiry date.  No photo, just printed pages about vehicles etc.  What is the point of that??
Whenever I had shown it to the Thai police they pretend to take a flick through then waive me on.
A better system (permit with a photo for a start) would help the police out.

  5. It amazes me how you can be in business (and yes airport immigration is a business) and you have a rare luxury of knowing EXACTLY how many customers are coming and at what time they will be there.
Yet so many immigration halls act swamped, surprised and overwhelmed with the numbers.  It not like its a secret when these planes are landing!
Also when sitting on a 12+ hour flight you arrive at your destination immigration and are processed one by one as if they had no clue you were on your way.  Surely the 12 hour or more flight time could have given them a heads up who is coming in and who may need to be flagged?
I can forgive Utapo as its such a small regional airport.  Heathrow however no excuses!
Suvarnhabhumi is pretty good, I especially like seeing them pick out old people or people with kids to go through fast track when the lines get long.  Not such personal service at Changi.
I still find it funny and incredulous that in 2017 we travel around with little cardboard books with our details on to be stamped with ink when crossing a border.  Sounds like its 1940 or something! :-)

  6. They cracked down on consecutive tourist visas recently (over a year ago) and will give you a good questioning upon arrival.  Apparently you are not allowed more than 3 in one year...?
My daughter (age 6 and homeschooled) had this problem.  We travel a lot and each time she arrived the Thai immigration would tell us she was not supposed to be allowed in and we had to get her a visa.
With no other option we ended up getting her a Thai Elite visa.
Just as an aside, its weird for kids as there are 2 competing laws.  Kids can stay in Thailand under the age of 14 and "follow" their parents visas, however kids ENTERING Thailand have to have a valid visa.  As we travel in and out a lot and she wasn't studying at school here there was no other route.
Anyway slightly off topic but just to say that yes even (parents of) British 6 year old has had several "grillings" by Thai immigration at both Suvarnabhumi and Utapao.

  7. Most of the comments here are all opinion.  Fair enough but what the facts here are is that the LAW has been broken. It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with corporal punishment, the fact is that in this country it IS illegal, whether to hit with your hand, to push or force or to use an instrument to hit.
So the issue here is how to enforce the law?
To bring the attention to the police you must make a police report. You do not need to be the victim to make a police report, you can be a parent of another class member.
The police action is taken against the teacher and not the school.

I know this because I sent my child to an English program school (in Pattaya) and on the very first day my daughter told me a class peer had been hit with a ruler on the hand for getting an answer incorrect.
I was shocked so I found online the law and printed it out in both Thai and English (school is run by Thais but this teacher was Filipino).  I went to the school and told both the teacher and the school that if ever my daughter witnessed another class member be hit I would personally make a police report.
It also states in the law that parents CANNOT ask or give consent for a teacher to hit their child.
The Filipino teacher cried and asked me how else can she control the class.  I reminded her that she wasn't controlling the class but rather physically bullying a learner who had not yet learned.
Just off the top of my head but how about inspiring, encouraging, motivating, caring, enquiring, practising, theorising, conversing......or else like many have said here perhaps the teaching profession just isn't for you.

So any members here that can speak and write Thai, the better thing to do (rather than opine here) is to flood the Thai boards with the law and how to implement it in this case.
The parent of the child does not have the right to allow this as much as the teacher does not have the right to inflict physical action on any child.
If not YOU then who?. . . .

Yes for sure, My son who is 15 got his license 6 months ago at DLT Pattaya but the kid needs a residence certificate from immigration and passport copies on the rental contract where you live or copy of the blue Tabien Ban and 2 photos ( just go and make an appointment) Go early the open at 8 AM.

    Brilliant, thanks for the info.
Will post back here when all done for future viewers :-)

  9. @chrisinth....Yeah there are several kids in her school and class (age 15 & 16) who have their license but like your step children they are Thai or half Thai.
My daughter has her Student ID card.  I didn't really think of this question whilst she was learning, but now the time is here for her to get a license it just popped into my mind and I realise I don't know a single full foreigner under 18 yr old who has a bike license.  I hadn't thought about it before. . .

  10. @Rally123, Thanks for that.  I did see that info but it appears to be just for a car license.
Thai people can obtain a motorbike license at age 15 and what I would like to know is if a foreign 15 year old can do the same.  I can't really see why not -but you never know.
I shall probably just make the trip out to the driving license office on Friday and get the info first-hand.  I shall be sure to post here so that others know the definitive info.

  11. My 15 year old (British) has been learning to ride a motorbike and now is ready to obtain a Thai driving license.  Many kids at the school have done this but it just occurred to me that actually these kids are half Thai and probably obtained via their Thai passport.
I did stop into a visa shop yesterday to ask (they do driving license matters there) and they didn't know but did say they didn't think a foreigner under 18 could NOT obtain a license (unlike a Thai who can get a motorbike license at age 15 to ride a bike less than 125cc).

Before I make the trek out to Highway 36 (Pattaya) just wondering if anyone knew a definitive answer here...... Can a 15,16,17 year old foreigner obtain a Thai motorbike license, take the test etc?

How they know the kid lives in Thailand, if it leaves all the time?

Your post is common sense BUT things have changed and we saw a big change from last year in particular.

Our daughter has a residency in Singapore and an accompanying visa to live in Singapore (a Dependents pass), so we used to show Thai immigration this to "prove" that she wasn't living in Thailand and was just a frequent visitor.  That USED to work.  Then around March last year we kept being told that it was 3 stamps  max per yearfor 30day visa only.

Like you we just smiled and waved thinking there was no way they would refuse entry for an 8 year old whose parents and elder sister had valid visas.

However things really had changed and we needed to procure a relevant visa for her.

Our case is a bit unique in that we DON'T want regular schooling for our 8 year old, otherwise its quite easy for parents to enrol their child into school and get an ED visa no problem.  Most parents want their children in school and so I guess this isn't a numerous problem.

An embassy even granted a 3 month non-O on the basis that the whole area is a "grey area" so your post makes sense.  It SHOULD be like you say, it WAS like you say...but things have changed (once more) and will probably change again in the near future!

    There are two choices available:

    1. Your son overstays. Upon his departure from Thailand his overstay may be recorded in the passport but he will not have to pay a fine because a person of that age is not punishable for his transgressions.

    2. Your son applies for an extension of stay. This extension can even be for one year if he has documentary evidence that his mother is a Thai national.

Sent from my Nexus 5X using Thaivisa Connect mobile app

I understand the fine is waived for minors.  However does the same apply to the banning period also?  If a child overstays for a year or more will they be subject to the same banning procedures as adults?

    OMG,

so you will say, that if they travel to thailand and the parents have valid Visas or extension, the IMO will denien a 8 y old child entry?

use your brain, this will never happen! Her will be granted Entry without any problem. Or the IMO has to offer a Visa possibility for the kid.

Buy a Elite card for the kid is isane and a taff joke for all who live and work in Thailand.

Never ever IMO would stop a child at the border! For what reason? work illegal? 5555

That was my thinking too. BUT, after having been dragged into immigration side rooms on 3 separate occasions and told in no uncertain terms that she MUST have a visa 'next time' I realised they WERE serious.

On the last occassion they even pulled up her travel data and told me they should send her back to Singapore as she had no right to get (another) 30 day stamp.

Like you I did wonder what on Earth they were going to actually do to a British Caucasian 7 year old (7 at the time) - would they really put her in jail or an immigration cell?  Nope they would just put her on a flight back from the country she had arrived from.

Personally we are very grateful that the Elite Card exists!

Perhaps they took it down since it was incorrect. It has been under the age of 15 for many years and has not changed.

The banning for overstay does not apply to those under the age of 18.

I tried to google the image of the sign but yielded nowt.
However this is written " Children less than 14 years old who are traveling with a parent or guardian are not required to pay any fines for overstays. "  on the Official Tourism website.http://www.tourismthailand.org/About-Thailand/Passport-Visa

That is the problem in Thailand, the rules are not black and white.  We also got very different information from various "official" channels.

One embassy even granted a 3 month non-O because in their words "it's a grey area"! LOL  We have little hope of making sense of the rules if even official representatives are not very sure themselves!

The law is that children under the age of 15 are not fined for an overstay which does not exempt them from needing visas.

There used to be a big sign at the airport that stated children under the age of 17 were exempt from any overstay fines.

The sign has been gone for about 2 years already....did they lower the age to 15 also?......if so I wonder why....?
