  1. Two people have 1.2m baht in cash in their bank. They both need a new car, and they both like the look of the new Honda Civic RS.

Person A notes that Bitcoin goes up over 100% a year on average, so puts down a 25% deposit and borrows the rest at 2.99% APR. He then invests his remaining money in the digital asset and, though it's a bumpy ride, he makes an incredible return over 3 years.

Person B hands over all of his cash in order to purchase the car outright, thus denying himself the chance to make some really good money. He thinks he's made a good decision. He has not.

  2. Our new house is in Buriram, and the PEA have failed to supply us with enough power (180v). They're saying they'll sort it, but I've had enough (3.5 months already). Some of my equipment won't operate properly, as you can imagine.

We use about 400 units a month on average (less in winter) so what do you think might be the best way to proceed? I don't think ditching the main grid completely is the answer, as most of the time it's not an issue.

  3. Always useful to make the effort to divide societies into 3: low, middle, and high.

Thailand has markedly fewer middle level people than countries in the top 10 of the HDI, so the likelihood of seeing them read a book, especially outside of a major conurbation, is small, hence the fact that this thread exists. If you're poor, you've got other, more pressing, things to attend to. I suppose rich people read too, when they're not consuming, driving too fast and just generally being appalling.

There's also the notion that the golden age of reading is behind us, brought about by fascinating screen-based tech' that compels us to look, click and swipe. I used to read loads, but since, say 2014, not so much. Looking back, that was when I got a phone good enough to read on. How ironic. Trouble was, it was also good at taking photos, and myriad other things, and soon I got sucked in like most others.

I used to read before sleeping, but then it changed to listening to podcasts. I'm trying hard to reverse this, as I tend to sleep better with the phone off.

Anyway, I used to see the odd person reading on the BTS. Mostly in Thai, but also in English, and probably in Chinese and Japanese too.

  4. Thanks for this.

My wife's friend is a nurse in Lam Plai Mat, down the road from us, and she's reporting a big increase in cases.

We were trying to get booked in for the Moderna jab, but no luck so far. My family are convinced that A/Z is dodgy. What a mess this all is.

Our village now has Delta cases, so we've been sealed off from the world...kind of. It was meant to start yesterday, but will now start tomorrow, apparently. I dashed to Tops to stock up on bread!

  5. Yep.

My brother in law just phoned them, and the woman 'was like a different person.' Not so friendly, and the price had gone up...

If you want to find the car, it's a red Honda City RS, up at 510k, approx' 100k less than it should be up for. It's on Rot Kai Dee and One2Car.
