  1. Have to agree that Horse Piss would be a proper name for Heineken :D

Fact is that family have licenses with Heineken in their bar so I can't bring any other name.

Unbranded towers could be an option though I really want to buy the Heineken tower

350 dollar for a plastic tower is outrageous and cannot be taken serious. I believe the 4 liter tower can be sold for not more than 3000 baht.

Who knows someone here might be able to give me a good advice , till then ill just keep looking :)

  2. Greetings all,

As subject already shows , I am looking for the purchase of a good ol' beer tower , Heineken only

In 2 weeks I'm having a 1 day stop over in Bangkok and for my family back in Europe who own a cafe I would like to bring this wonderful item along

I have been checking google already and all I get is some advice on tripadvisor to check JJ mall / chatuchak market. That comment is from 2009 and thus I'm not sure if its still open

Perhaps someone can give me a golden tip where to find these towers :)

    Thanks in advance !!

  3. Going back many years I can remember when the first Indian immigrants arrived in England.

At first the very few that lived mostly in the big cities including London were mainly Indian restaurant owners and workers and was considered somewhat of a novelty and the native white population tolerated them and treated these people with respect.

Then during the 1970s the British government relaxed it`s policies on Immigration and suddenly brown people from all over South Asia and many from Uganda began immigrating to England in droves.

Then everything changed, the unions called for strikes fearing the loss of jobs to Asians and there was frequent and violent attacks on Asians including actual riots in many parts of the country.

My point is that I don`t believe the permitting of too many people of a different race and culture into a country is a good thing. It has been proven that multiculturalism doesn’t work and will lead to conflicts.

During my time here in Thailand I am seeing more and more farangs even in the most remote areas and as I see the situation, this can only cause problems for the farangs already living here, the same as what happened in the United Kingdom 40 years ago.

    Agreed,

In my native country, many north african/turks, already 2nd generation, 3rd generation on its way and the tension can be felt strongly within the big cities. Soon the remote/urban area's will be subject to these immigrants as they are looking beyond the borders of the big(ger) cities and then things will could get worse. This is why rightwinged parties all over Europe are gaining and this will eventually also happen in Thailand, to protect their way of life and culture... If Thailand was not a developing country, it would have been much worse than what you see now...

  4. Having a bike now for 1 month, got used to the left side driving , got used to the crazy traffic (not that difficult after living 10 years in India/Bangladesh) but i still fear the tiny tires while going faster than 40km/h

My mountainbike (bycicle) back home almost has the same thickness/width like the ones the Skydrive has. Scary to drive through sandy roads, bad asphalt...

Im driving slow all the time (when possible ofcourse), this way i hope to avoid big issues if they arise. Better to go and slide with <50 than >70

  5. Thanks for the reply and effort.

Maichai,..I have been looking around like you said and i just cant find anything, its kinda weird there is absolutely nothing. Loads of Philipine discussion on forums, but cant read Tagalog :( Im also sure that the engines will be the same here and there in different bikes with some adjustments and small differences. Problem is that i just like to know for sure if i am comparing the right ones with the Skydrive but i aint much of an engineer, or have loads of knowlegde of engines so i prefer the original one so i can read all about the details and be in time for any maintenance. Its dam_n silly though, a machine of 49000 baht, released in multiple countries and NO english manual anywere :(

Richard, thanks for uploading the parts, saved the doc and always handy to have. If you can scan the owners manual i would be extremely happy, just make sure it does not take tooo much of your time when you do... where did you get it from in the first place?

    :)

  6. Hello all...

SO, i recently bought this bike and truly loving it, it makes Phuket much more pleasant, not spending 500 baht on one way taxi trips anymore.

Got the bike frm an orginal Suzuki dealer and found out that the manual is completely in Thai. Seems that they also dont have any english manual. My TG translated some parts but she has no idea about some of the words as she is a complete noob on engines and similar stuff.

I have spent at least 2 hours looking for an english manual on the internet, found out that there is noooooooothing at all, only that this bike is popular mainly in Philipines, not much about Thailand at all and that its being launched in India soon. I even registered at some Phils forum, trying to ask there but its all of no use. Its just not there, very weird.

Would a Skydrive owner be so kind to inform me about the maintenance, the schedule by km's, oil(s)/ disc brake fluid, anything that is required, how long the break-in period is and perhaps any other info i should know? Bike has now done nearly 300km's

    Thanks in advance....

  7. Thx for the replies, the one above here is usefull regarding the logic questions, driving a bike itself is not that hard, it is indeed the nervousness that could kick in. Guess the practical part is not the thing i 'fear', it are the tricky questions in theory.

I was going to have the test tomorrow but had to postpone as i have some difficulties with the required 'proof of residence' documents. Seems that my TG need to come along for the necessary signature and rent docs, which is a bit hard as she is working 8 to 4 and cant take a day off. Need to check whether its possible to take the documents home and have it signed there. Litte task for tomorrow.

regaring the test, my thai teacher is also going for the same, her licence expired and need to get it again, guess she can push for the understanding that i am a farang, lets see :)

Now, about my 2nd question..... :D anyone has a Skydrive and an english manual?

  8. Hello all,

As stated above, i got 2 questions which both i googled for but found nothing.

I bought a suzuki Skydrive a few days ago, wonderful machine, but it has no english manual. Asking my TGF to translate it is one way, but still, i wouldnt mind to have an English one.

Does anyone know, by any chance, where to get this?

Next to that, i am going to get a licence for driving the machine as i dont feel like bribing police. I live in Phuket and often have to go to Patong, the place where police like to cash in on foreigners without a licence. After reading i found that managing a licence ain't much of a hassle, it just requires some time which i have. Still, i wouldnt mind to go a bit prepared regarding the Theory Test, therefore i kindly would like to know if there is a document available somewere where i can read about the possible questions that might be asked.

    Thanks in advance :)

  9. Nah, just take the test, if you had a licence from your home country you'd still have to do the theory test and without it you'll just have to do the riding test as well, start, stop, a few cones maybe, ride along a narrow bar ( i think it's a bit of concrete about 6 inches wide) and you're done, as long as you don't fall off! :) health checks you'd need anyway, apparently you just nip into a clinic and give them a few baht. Shouldn't be too hard. Best bet, seeing as all the provinces seem different, is to go and ask them.

Thx, ill just get one myself, shouldnt be too hard...just hope it doesnt take all day as what i read on various sites... until then i am more or less forced to use a motorcycle to go to work which is 15 minutes driving.... either this or pay 1000 baht taxifare (up/down). Hope this goes unnoticed for the time being :/

  10. I reckon you should get one mate, shouldn't be too hard. There's plenty of threads on here about it, use the search function or use google and add 'thai visa' to the search question

Yap, you are right about that, figured out i would be able to find it somewere and i did. Seems i am pretty screwed up as i dont have a (intl.) licence or whatsoever so it means i have to take tests, health checks and so on... guess its time now to find out whether there are 'easier' ways to go through these procedures :/

  11. Hello all,

With some enthousiasm i am able to say i am a Phuket resident starting from today, after coming to Thailand the past 5 years for more than 40 times (i lived in Asia already since 10 years)

So,..Phuket is nice but the transportation (taxi's) is horrible compared to other places in Thailand. It is even more difficult for me as i dont have a driver licence for car, not even for a bike. In the past while visiting Phuket for short time i always rented a bike during but since i will be living here permanently for the next 1 or 2 years i better should find out whether it is possible to drive a +100cc engine (planning to get a Honda Click) without any issues with the law.

Someone got any advice for me on this subject? highly appreciated :)

  12. Hello all

I am a frequent traveller to Bangkok and i use to stay on Sukhumvit all the time... usually Soi 6 as well as other soi's

This time i have to spend some more time than the usual 1 or 2 days so i got some time to clear up the backlog of my work.

Who knows a nice place where i can work with laptop ( with wireless and/or at least a powersocket) while i can still do other things meanwhile (order drink/snack, look at the crowd whenever i wanna relax my eyes) ?

I know tht starbucks offers some space but i wonder if that is the only venue where u can sit down for 1, 2 or even 3 hours and still find a way to enjoy it a bit without people and/or staff who are wondering when the heck i piss off frm the chair that i have been occupying for so long.

Anyone knows? I prefer ofcourse the area of Sukhumvit :)

    Question 2:

I was kinda amazed that when i went from arrival to departure @ the airport 2 weeks ago that i had to pay 200 baht on top of the normal fee... for the past years and even on Don Muang i always had my easy ways of getting into the city by just going up and getting a taxi at departures.

Did this now end? they changed the rules? any way to continue saving a few hundred baht on the ride frm aiport to city? Its all fenced now, how can it be done?

With this new rule, is it still worth to go up or is it better to get a taxi downstairs?

    thx in advance :D

Is this beach above around the corner of Nai Harn Beach?

:D i should stay at least 1 month in Phuket... filtering out whats good and whats bad is a hel_l of a job

    :o

    Tooo shy to ask!...

Hows the nighlife @ Nai Harn Beach? i dont expect hardcore disco's and stuff like in Patong but at least some entertainment should be there,...right?

  14. Thanks for all the input, photo's.... highly appreciated by me!

    large.jpg

    Wat on earth is that?

That looks like a construction site :D

I find it very odd that Patong beach is that bad as it seems that the nightlife there is so populair.

Populair nightlife / populair beach, it would be a good formula for all commerce in that area... i find it very strange

I guess most people who go to Patong go for the booze and the girls only, not caring for nature/cleanness as they are wasted during daytime anyway :o

I guess it would be a waste of everything to check out for an expensive beachresort @ Patong.....ill just go for C & N, perhaps Patong Villa for a night and then focus my view on the beaches mentioned above... :D

Ill do some reseach with the help of the beachlist you guys showed me, lets see if i come across some decent hotels during the few days i spend there :D

Once again, i appreciate your time and energy you put in this. worthy of a beer when im there ;-)

I do have another question... actually 2

This James Bond island, theres an organised tour for it.....is it worth the time? its frm 8 till 5 so it will eat 20% of my time in phuket if i will go for it...

Phi Phi islands...., any of you guys visited it? i also plan to go and come back next day as i HEARD it was nice to see... is it worth my little precious time?

    :D

  15. Sounds interesting... On the hill does show some nice scenery but i guess its a pain in the butt when you want to go out and get wild....

Ill be checking out people's opinion regarding the hotels you mentioned and eventually decide...Kara beach does look fine which makes it even more interesting

For some reason i feel like traveling around like what i was used to on Samui; one or two days this beach, one or 2 days that beach,...

If you guys make a top 5 of best beaches (neat and clean, fun, nice scenery etc.) , NOT taking the nightlife and shop/food in consideration, how would this top 5 look like?

    1.? Patong?

    2.? surin?

    3.?

What else is there in downtown (Phuket town/Muang/...) anyway, just the locals who live there? anything to see or do there?

  16. Thanks Mak, for your input...

I am Dutch, living in asia (India/Bangladesh) for the past 8 years and traffic wont be that much of a problem as i have seen hel_l on earth regarding this already... i guess i survived the years by not taking any risk so renting a bike would be unlikely. (which makes traveling up and down the island while i stay in a hotel somewere else for my full lenght of stay a bit unlikely also; im not visiting Phuket to make Tuks/Taxi's happy.)

So if i understand it right, it wont be smart to stay the first night in town as i will be traveling to the beach side anyway....i should rather stay near the beach in a cheaper hotel the very first night and start looking for more luxury when i wake up and the fun is supposed to start.

I am certainly not looking for spoiled beaches, thinking of waste and stuff floating around when i want to do a beachwalk gives me an anti-climax as i can do this stuff also back home and in Europe during summer months.

To get straight to the point then

Can you, or anyone else here recommend me the best beaches to stay and/or to visit?(taking nightlife/shopping/food in consideration for some part.) Would that be Patong only?

If possible, please also recommend a good hotel/resort for not more than THB 2500. (i know, i know, look on the net, look when you are there :o , but a recommendation cant do any harm, im sure people here been to places they loved and can recommend!)

  17. Hello people

Let me first of say that i already did research prior to posting this, i have been visiting a number of review sites and seen alot of hotels from which i can choose (as well as the Hotels in the sticky topic)

I am going to visit Phuket end of July for the first time and i am experiencing the same as with my first trip to samui; there are a number of beaches and some nightlife area's from which i can choose and i find it hard to choose.

Maybe some people here can point me in the right direction.

I am staying 5 days only, my arrival @ Phuket would be 10pm.

Due to my late arrival, i believe it is pointless to go straight for a beachresort as i dont want to spend up to THB 2000 for a hotelroom i hardly enjoy as i will arrive, eat, drink a bit and sleep right away due to traveltiredness.

I was thinking of staying in a less than THB 1000 hotel somewere in downtown where there is plenty of food around.

Nightlife would be nice but i wont be partying my butt off as i would be tired of all day travel

Am i correct that the best area's to eat food and still find some nightlife is in downtown?

Could anybody recommend me a cheap but decent hotel in that area?

After waking up the fun will start and i am planning to be near those beaches

I would like to have some recommendations on that as well

Phuket has quite a few beaches around; Patong, Kamala, etc and i am curious if it would be smart and easy to pick a hotel at, lets say, Patong, and then to travel from beach to beach whenever i want and still come back at the end of the day to the hotel in Patong.

Or, would it be better to travel from beach to beach and change hotel day by day ( i have no idea about the distances )

In any case, which beach would be nice to visit , perhaps even stay?

Which hotel, with all these extra's like: near to nightlife and seaview and so on, for less than THB 2000 can be recommended?

Naturally, it all depends on what you are looking for....

I will be with my gf, we both like nice scenery, nice beaches to stare at, traveling around, seeing things and some drinking, live music, shopping and good food at night

Too much writing, too many questions... blame my excitement ;-)
