About Me
I have been a member of this forum for many years.
Recent months made it clear that this is a changed website, and not for the better (In my opinion). While never quite a high-quality, highbrow website, it was not the toxic cesspool this place has become. Some sub-forums and topics are simply a constant deluge of SPADE (apparently, can't even post some words nowadays), bigotry, conspiracy theories, outright lies and so on.
For whatever reasons (not getting into that, don't care anymore) the powers that be seem either apathetic, or even tacitly supportive of such practices (with Orwell's equality quote in mind, that is): Calling a spade a spade is, evidently, more of an issue than the spade being a spade - and ensuring spade freedom of expression and safeguarding tender feelings is paramount. This is not about dealing with other views, it's about the lack of level playing field.
Contrasted with the sheer bulk of abuse, harassment, nonsense, spading and other bad practices I've encountered on a daily basis, not too hard to see how disappointment and resentment became a thing.
Maybe if I cared more, or thought more highly of this forum, I'd be more invested in trying to change things, futile as that may be. But I'm don't, and I'm not. Mildly surprised at how quickly the feeling of resignation took hold. Not much further interest or motivation clashing with 'people' on here, and even less so when it come to ongoing contribution and support.
There are other worlds than this....
