excuse me for being really thick...90 days on VOA only or following expiration of a tourist visa (60 day + 30 day ext) ie, can one do 90 days on VOA after the expiration of a proper visa?
-
fair enough; maybe i took it personally cos i am not trying to beat the system, i am not trying to run the country and I am not trying to make a fool out of anyone. All I wanna know is can I stay for 6 months on a 60 day visa. Most are saying yes, dot.com said no...i am due to come in a couple of weeks and am worried.

so 90 days is VOA and Tourist visa, are you 100% about this? sunbelt was posting earlier that u could do 3 x VOA's after a tourist visa had expired

can someone be a tourist for 6 - 12 months? Theres a hel_l of a lot to see in Thailand, I think it is perfectly plausable that if someone has enough money to support themselves they could legitimatly be a tourist for an extended period of time. People like ME who are getting tarred with the same brush as illegal teachers / criminals etc etc etc

From what I understand, you can do 60 days, go to the immigration office and pay (1900b) to extend another 30 days. You could then pay again to extend 15 days. After that I think you could do a couple of border runs but not 3 of them.
Why not 3, surely that would be my 90 day quota???

I got the visa the day before all of this came out, what I need to know is does the 90 day max stay apply to VOA only, ie someone can have another visa, it will expire and then they get 3 x VOA's.
Also can the 60 dayer still be extended.

I am so confused, I am coming to Thailand on sep 26th. I want to stay for 6 months. I have a 60 day tourist visa which (I think) I can extend for 30 more days, I (think) I can do 3 border runs and get 3 x VOAs hence giving me 6 months.
Can I stay for 6 months?

Is this new tourist rule definatly 100% going to be put in place?
Seems like bulls**t to me, what about all the diving instructors? I remember speaking to a dive school in Lanta who offer free tuition to thais cos it is virtually impossible to get a visa as a divemaster, yet the demand is massive. Or people who have money but dont want to work and just wanna chill out in thailand for 6-12 months. Seems like a very heavy handed manner in which to weed out the 'undesirables'.

I am coming to Thailand on Sep 26. I have a 60 day tourist visa which I can extend for 30 days. Does that 90 days count as my quota or am I able to get 90 more days by doing 3 visa runs?

Since it looks like the immigration officers at the border seem to have been given enough clout to have the final say, I think they will be able to exercise enough common sense to see the good from the bad. Maybe good to show up with docs confirming income, or something to say you have a job / commitments outside Thailand.
