Get a one year rental contract and take it together with your passport to Krungsri, they will most likely open a bank account for you, type of visa doesn't matter, can be done with a tourist visa. If one branch denies you just go to another.

I think you'll find nowadays that Krungsri are usually asking for a work permit when you ask to open an account and if you don't have one then they'll politely direct you to the exit. But having a one year rental contract will definitely help.

  2. Opening a bank account in the current climate is a bit of a lottery. If you are on a Non-B with work permit or are retired, it won't be a problem. Otherwise, you will probably end up needing to go to many different branches to try and find a manager that is willing to do it. Many on here will boast about how they have opened accounts on tourist visas, I would take these stories with a grain of salt as it was either done many years ago, or is just false, so irrelevant to your circumstances.

When opening a new account, they won't need to see three statements from your UK bank. And as to it being a joint account, if you have a Thai husband, yes it is possible.

  3. This is not the West where you can use a lawyer to recoup both your losses and the costs of the legal action. Here, the lawyer will be trying to charge you maximum also. So unless you want to get charged again, try and resolve the situation with the builder, if not, then you will need to write it off. 34k is less than what the lawyers will charge you. Actually the money involved is peanuts, if you chase it down you might get problems. Next time don't pay in advance.

  4. If I had known about the hassles with everything from getting a bank account, immigration stress and the inability to find good quality meat and alcoholic drinks, I probably wouldn't have come to Thailand. But I'm still meeting 20-something girls on various apps so it might have been worth it.

  5. 67 million people in the UK. About 15% are aged 15 and under, which leaves 57 million. About 12% are over 70. Down to 49 million already.

About 5% are unemployed. Then you've got the people who are unlikely to travel to Thailand because of religious reasons. And the overweight women who don't want to come here and see the hot young Thai girls.

Realistically there's probably a pool of 10-20 million people who might have the desire and the means to actually travel to Thailand, so suggesting that 6 million will travel is extremely optimistic.

I think 600,000 would be a better estimate. Comprising mostly single men aged 20-60, who are either employed or have savings to cover the costs of a tropical holiday right after a major economic catastrophe.

  6. Don't buy anything with less than 8Gb of ram or you will find that the computer not only runs slowly with general tasks, but it will get worse with more Windows updates in the future.

  7. This recipe is excellent. I made up a huge batch and put into plastic bottles and stored in the freezer. You can add chopped bell peppers or capsicums as they call them here and make a really nice jalfrezi. I also add tomato paste and a spoon of Ajinomoto to make it extra tasty. British curry house style curries use a lot of ghee to make the curry so creamy and delicious, I would say that it's much better than butter and I buy it from Zing Street.
