Nice tip, never checked before, a full two percent higher than I'm getting now, and more options...

    I'm also a Fidelity customer.

Currently, Treasury yields are higher than brokered CDs which is not always the case.   You can buy them at either original auction or  in the secondary market at Fidelity with no commission.

If a Treasury and a brokered CD is yielding the same rate for the same duration, I suggest Treasuries because if you need to sell for some unforseen reason the Bid-Ask spread is much more reasonable with Treasuries.  One often takes a real haircut if selling a brokered CD.

  2. I find Pattaya area baht busses more fun than Angeles City jeepneys.  An interesting environment to throw strangers together who have been drinking all night.

There is an Angeles City 7/11 with seating for 150 and music thumping that is one of the best 7/11s in the world.  Not too many foreigners though. Also on that list is the Pratumnak Beach 7/11. The Pratumnak 7/11 is more scenic but the hong nam is for employees only.  Many Russians.

the cheapest medical assistance I could find was $30 PER HOUR with a MINIMUM of eight hour shifts x five days a week. Needless to say, I sought other options.

I know someone who worked in home care near Bangkok taking care of an old Thai guy.  She's not a nurse though.  She was earning 16K baht a month and free room and board living with the family.  Not sure what the agency was charging the client.

Those folks whose home country has a DTA with Thailand are exempt.

Also exempt will be those who have been taxed in a foreign country that has a standing Double Tax Agreement with Thailand.

The USA has a DTA with Thailand.  However, I have arranged my finances so that I am in a 0% tax bracket.  So my income, Social Security, Traditional IRA withdrawals and Roth IRA withdrawals could be taxed in Thailand?

    3. Your monthly pension in Thailand can be seen as "world income" if you pay it directly from your pension fund to Thailand. In that case you will have to pay income tax in Thailand based on your pension brought into Thailand.

    4. If your pension has been first paid on your private overseas bank account, then it won't be considered as "world income" and not be subjected to Thai income tax.

Like some Americans my Social Security (government program) income is paid directly to Bangkok Bank.  Wonder if this will be taxed?

Perhaps better if I have my Social Security paid into an USA bank account?

As mentioned above, a last will is very important, as a girlfriend is not an heir without a will. You can also appoint your girlfriend as executor in the will. Even a simple document signed by two witnesses can serve as a valid last will; you can even sign it at the local amphor office and have it kept on file there.

(Source: "Thai Law for Foreigners", page 77-80.)

Last year,  I created a new Thai will as I have a new bank account which wasn't listed in the old will.

The first lawyer had no interest in going to the amphur to have the will registered.  My girlfriend and I went and couldn't figure out how to do it.  It's a busy amphur; perhaps easier at others.  My new lawyer also said it wasn't necessary.   I got the impression from him that perhaps there was a downside to registering in case I subsequently create a new will that doesn't get registered.  at any rate, right now it is not registered.

I suppose that with the Thai will she can get death certificates that my USA brokerage account will accept where she is named as a beneficiary.

Thanks for all the responses so far!   ????

Do you guys get any written acknowledgement of your visit?

    Never received any written acknowledgement.

But the lady who usually handles this sitting outside the extension desk is one of the nicest people at Immigration.

Probably don't need to go but it's easy for me to get to Jomtien Immigration so I don't mind. I'm on Soi 5 quite a bit using my Cheap Charlie card anyway.

  8. The Senate could just block the original coalition with a PT PM again.  Perhaps Bhumjaithai and Move Forward should both be in the coalition even if that is a bit awkward as then no Senate votes are needed.  Give Anutin some important ministries.   Then implement some structural reforms, add pro-democracy Senators.

I thought most of the whole milk sold in Thailand was re-constituted to be spoil resistant and not fresh from cows.

I have had good experience with Chokchai not spoiling.  it is also ever so slightly cheaper than Meji or Dutch Mill.  7/11 doesn't have but little Tescos and Big C Mini usually have it.  Spoiling is an issue for me as I only use in my coffee. If reconstitution stops spoiling it's OK with me.

First chance they have no confidence motion and back to elections

Does a  no confidence motion just need a majority of the 500 MPs?

If MF party is banned can the current MPs of MF that were elected simply join one of the other parties?

It would seem that the key here is MF and PT keeping their alliance strong and having a true power sharing arrangement based on mutual trust.

I stopped getting draft. It always tastes flat.

That's my experience too when I order cheap draft because the bottled beer is significantly more expensive.   But I see some places that have draft at prices that seem slightly higher than bottled.   These types of places seem to have premium beers on tap such as Guinness besides regular beer on tap.  Perhaps they maintain their tap system so that the beer tastes good.

  12. I thought that I read that each party can submit 3 possible candidate for PM.  I also thought I read that Move Forward only submitted 1.  Is this correct?

Even if Pheu Thai is secretly pleased at this turn of events, I would suspect that they will let this play out slowly to keep both their credibility and the coalition strong.
