That's is a an over simplification of the seismic change the woke cult is causing and the real changes in society and legislation that is destroying lives.

Bangkok used to brilliant- I loved it until the Junta messed it up, closed down the food stalls, shut the clubs etc etc But up till the military regime took over it was one of the greatest cities in the world. Now there is only one decent cosmopolitan really 'Thai' city and its Pattaya. The most beautiful town is Phuket old town -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2022)
The Hammer2021 replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Depends where I am on the forum thread and how many times the movie or show gers mentioned. Same with praising a show. What's your problem? Don't understand how 'threads' work? Let me explain: they are long and linear but page based so repitions inevitably happen because a full thread can't be contained in one page. With regards to some shows initial comments either positive or negative can be enlarged upon or expanded. Do you have a problem with that? If so take it to the moderators- I use this forum to exchange information- give and receive information about shows and films. In the time it took your veiled criticism of me I submitted 3 great reviews of shows NOT forum members. Why don't you do the same? Try it...lol -
Why are there so many haters on this site?
The Hammer2021 replied to reflectionx's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The OP asks a good question. There are two main types of haters both are low intelligence. One group are not here and unlikely to come here but they may have been here once. They failed here and cant get back. The other group are the failed people who are stuck here after a catalogue of bad decisions. Inadequates, racists, failures, low intelligence, often from small town backgrounds they lack life and travel experience. Many suffer from depression often induced by bad liver and too much bad beer. Other are just damaged people who carry their emotional bagge with them and empty it in our laps. Others are just dreary <deleted> who think whinging is a valid personality trait. Decades past here until I actual met two of them in real life- not on this forum in a bar. They were thick as bricks, couldn't speak a word of Thai after 15 years, and proud of the fact! They demeaned the Thais around them (upon whom they depended entirely). They had zero self awareness about how absurd they were. Until I met these guys I didn't think such people really existed! I could go on but I wont -
Yes in many ways it has won as outlined in the book. "How woke won" See the outline below. "Woke has conquered the West. Identity politics, cancel culture and trans ideology reign. Censorship and public shaming are the price you pay for dissent. Where did woke come from? How did it conquer so many of our institutions? How can we fight back? These are the questions at the heart of How Woke Won, Joanna Williams’ brilliant new book, published by spiked in partnership with John Wilkes Publishing. It is your essential guide to our maddening times." ‘Clear thinking and gripping storytelling’ – Jonathan Haidt ‘A brave and lucid book’ – Robert Tombs ‘One of Britain’s sharpest writers on woke’ – Julia Hartley-Brewer ‘A searing read’ – Paul Embery

LOL...Recently would have been covid times or within the last few weeks when covid restrictions were lifted. I last visited HH before covid so it was as busy as its going to get. But a 'huge expat population ' is not an attraction to me necessarily. Its an ugly place with a characterless highway cutting through the front, the beach hidden my modern hotels. The place has centre, no character no buzz. I guess its a good retirement place for married golfer types. I liked the HH people.

I was rephrasing it to help you understand the concept ribbon development which you took to Jean dreadful hotels. I wrote: "Dreadful hotel beachside hotel development, a badly run, unimaginative local government...HH is worth 3 or 4 days" I omitted the word 'ribbon' but clearly I was referring to dreadful beachside development comprised of hotels ' I certainly was not suggesting the hotels individually were dreadfull. They seem rather nice actually and quite posh. I suspect you might be a bit sensitive and not have much knowledge of urban design and contemporary town planning. I certainly did not mean to suggest you took your family to dreadful hotels which is how you seemed to interpret my observation.

I have been there! A 'huge' expat population. Lol. Its doesn't have a huge expat population which would not necessarily be a bonus anyway. Its a bland featureless town. A very boring beach layout shrouded by hotels which often dominate or limit beach access. I like the fish restaurant area, the station and the little boxing stadium. But by an large its a rather depressing place- perhaps it suits low energy people. The entertainment area- soi binta baht is disappointing neither one thing or another just dozens of bars lacking style blasting out incoherent music. There is more variety and design in one soi such as LK Metro in Pattaya than the whole of SBB. Obviously HH suits some people and has its fans but its difficult to see why.

Nong Khai has a bar area called fight street, a great market, a fantastic Riverside view of Laos and interesting places to visit in the surrounding area. It's a lovely well designed town influenced by French design ideas inherited via Vietnamese immigrants -

I have been there several times but uour comment regarding 'the greatest place in the universe' could be construed as unhelpful and unnecessary. What do you think is the purpose of your comment? -

Bar Girl Retirement Strategies
The Hammer2021 replied to Danderman123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You make a good point. That's why I stressed a hardworking reliable girl. Around where I live in Pattaya there are several successful businesses run by ex bar girls or sex workers they include; expat food shops, a visa agency, haidressers, a posh coffee shop and a nail salon. Bar girls have many advantages including confidence, language skills, self promotion, attractiveness and are used to dealing with foreigners. -
Bar Girl Retirement Strategies
The Hammer2021 replied to Danderman123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Why not? It's called a market place. In Banglampoo all the salons were on one street, in Hanoi, Lisbon and other cities traditionally shops selling similar goods grouped together - like all the clothes boutique in Carnaby St, all the go go bars in Walking Street, all the Chinese restaurants in China Town, all the pet shops in one street, all the IT shops in one area etc etc -
I wont but my witnesses will be involved and consulted and hopefully ensure my wishes are carried out

Eleven Conservatives now bidding to be next UK prime minister
The Hammer2021 replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
40 years of EU bureaucracy will take a long time to undo I should imagine and we are now trading with them from outside the EU and indeed suffering from their extreme protectionism that ha ha was the basis of the 'free trade zone'. What extremist, hardline, remainers fail to understand is the democratic vote for brexit was a major benefit it in itself. That the people could rebel against the massed forces of media, the technocrats and the political orthodoxy was a benefit in itself. The suffragettes, the tollpuddle martyrs, the levellers, Brexit- these are giant steps in the history of democracy.
