When we started develop our land 7 years ago we got 4 mango plants from neighbours. Didn't understand yet then that they need to be grafted. They were from seeds. Growing very well, nice big trees but no fruits. I have now cut them back and grafted them all from bought trees. Will hopefully get fruit on them next season.

A couple of the grafted trees we bought don't fruit either. A neighbour explained that some cultivars of mango don't like it here. I'm near the coast with no real cold winter and that might be the reason. This winter been way too warm and only a few mangos produce fruit.

Potassium is needed to set fruit. I tried spraying one year without any result. I have bee feeding them lots of mulch from legumes so maybe too much nitrogen compared to potassium in the soil.

Grafting is best done during summer when trees grow fast. But not that easy, takes some trail and error to get it to work. Important to find the right scion. Best if you can find some older shoots with buds ready to grow. Wrap the whole scion with tape to avoid it to dry out. I found this tape to work for me:

Great video with the Lazada tape advice!

Do "you" use a wok with induction hobs?

My wife uses a Wok on our induction stove.  You need special induction pans, pots, and woks.  Get good ones.

Contrary to some, induction can produce intense heat for very good results using a wok made for induction hobs.

However it won't be as good as those flame throwing gas stoves you see on the food network.

Good for you on getting one!

    Enjoy!

You"lk find good deals on Lazada mall for induction cookware or sales at the mall to slowly build up your cooking arsenal.

pollution levels are reported daily/hourly throughout Thailand by at least "accuweather (locality)"  - the north has been reported in news media at world leading numbers. This mornings TNN news at  0600 reported that one could not see CM city from Doi Suthep overlooking the city due to smog.  News medie daily show map of Thailand with pollution totals and in almost all areas the readings are above the healthy level.  I have a 2.5 micron meter and in my area of Bangkok the readings have been above the healthy level almost every day for the past few months including all of last week.  Before it rained last week, the readings were in the 50's and afterwards over a 100!  google "masks and pollution" and you can read about the studies that confirm that quality n95 masks can block the 2.5 microns.  wearing one though is  personal choice!

IQ Air is an excellent app and will have very localized numbers.

  4. Lao's should be a warning to Thailand not to depend on Chinas "Belt &Road" iniatives.

Laos now has an astronomical 120% debt ratio and it's mostly tied to it's new High Speed Train.

It sure looks nice but shady lone structure and the actual trains path largely favors Chinas trade.  Very few train stations.

However, Thailand seems to work at a snail's pace with a true finish date just a pipe dream.

  5. This isn't a new phonomena.

    It's happening all over Asia.

Prices for rice, sugar cane, etc are so low from brokers as to make any other way but burning the fields unprofitable.

That said, Id rather be choking on smog in Chiang Mai rather than some <deleted> hole Issan village in the middle of nowhere suffering the same plight of insufferable smog and smoke.   At least theres something to do.

Sometimes it's quicker to buy the whole bloody tap.

Yes a pain in the ass but then job is done.

I'd probably do more research on Lazada to get correct model and order 2 or 3 as spares.

    Always good to have spares.

I bought one from Mr DIY for 110 baht and paid 100 baht for the condo technician to install it. That was 5 days ago. This morning I was awoken to a broken bum gun and the water flooding the bathroom, so I immediately turned off the valve for the bum gum. Water still leaking out of the new bum gun. What the hell, only 5 days it lasted!!!

Is this a plumbing issue in the building or my room or the water pressure going to my room being too strong? I can't be replacing bum guns every 5 days. bloody hell.

If you have a receipt, bring it back to the place you purchased it.  There at least a 30 day warranty.

Other option buy a cotton bum gun

Thai landlords won't look favorably at tenants nit picking on small items like bum guns, batteries for remotes, etc. and won't re-rent to you after your lease is up.

Cheaper than buying loads of toilet paper and Thai girls insist on them.
