  1. Exactly what I had said. Many, but hardly all weaken. Then the timeline...How long do they take to weaken? Typical flu kills millions annually. How long did it take SARS 1 to disapate? It hadn't and that's what covid is a stronger SARS, SARS 2. That's what they were studying in Wuhan. Smallpox, polio are still issues but I won't go into that. MERS, ebola, diphtheria, mumps, TB. Yup, just disappeared on their own donchaknow. Some may, others may not. It's hardly that simple and a virus has no three year expiration lol.
  2. Bangkok While I'm sure that CP has vaccinated all of their employees working at 7-Eleven I suspect that it was never easy in the best of times to keep 7 employees. Maybe if everyone might note that there are some that are strategically open. That would be telling. I've only noticed One near me that has closed other than one that had closed some months ago for renovation and never reopened. For myself given many of the clientele being Moto taxi drivers and what not it's extremely high volume shop and I told myself and my wife to simply steer clear of the place. Besides its CP so why not.
  3. First, covid is not going away. With vaccine and herd immunity it can be mitigated. One year for the order, one year for the aftermath and one year begins the attempt to rebuild. This is just covid that means laws, trust, return to what most consider normal. Especially if we lockdown for two months in next few weeks (in the next year there will be many lockdowns) the economy is doomed. This will take five years to recover imo. Thais already indebted. Economy already teetering since 2015. Factories will have huge issues managing covid, illness and production. Two years or more. We don't know the social implications of the loss of parents and breadwinners. By govts estimates 30k pm with nothing to reign it in. People are doing stupid stuff yesterday I saw a guy buying carrots in Big C. He risked covid for carrots. Tourism. As long as ASQ and all the paperwork and circus is in place tourism is dead. Thailand will need to produce vaccine passport because why not $$$ I don't see the housing market moving or at all healthy. This can go on until the banks call the loans but they can't bc they've given overextended second, third mortgages. Oh well. Politically there is no return to democratic process and what we in the west consider proper due process and jurisprudence. What this dissolution means for the future no one knows but I don't see how it can be a positive. It will be five years or two years after the US sorts itself out. Whichever is less.
  4. I'd definitely take that Sputnik vax over any mRNA. Think this was just a hat passing session lol
  5. I just want to say I have a good life here. Going back to States would pose serious economic issues. I don't want either of us to work. Normally, I get outta here few times a year and that brings perspective. I've honestly had few issues with immigration. Nevertheless, the trip to MTT and the risk it carries for essentially nothing. My wife's job has been at risk for years due to economic chaos. There's no stability and with that I won't buy a condo which in the long run would save money, provide a place after I'm gone for wife. The cost of condos or rather the value is just stupid. It honestly is a bit insulting looking at the poorly designed, kept, locations and thinking...you want what!!??!! I want to live in a free and open society where people prosper and are relatively content in their pursuits.
  6. How simple-minded. Glad it works for you. Millions of Thai in poverty, economy is trashed, democracy has left the room and not coming back. Hundreds of young people have had their lives ruined for asking for the same rights you were blessed to be born into. Quirks
  7. Just a thought Pattaya is a pretty rogue city, Chonburi. Like Phuket it kinda does as it pleases. Maybe this is sort of it's reckoning. Unlike Phuket it lacks money and real power to make things happen. Government interested in Pattaya tourists not the local farang scrum sitting on beach road in nylon gym shorts, singlet and 40b flip flops trying to pick a ST up from some tragic looking prostitute.
  8. In fairness maybe there is a weariness to the 90 day reports and non sensical chaos. Reentry permits, the legions of police we employ who are often looking for a back hander or simply to make our lives difficult. It's the exception rather than rule when you have a pain free experience with an immigration officer. I know I feel it. If you're some upcountry geezer who's on his 15th extension and never left the country. Who's wife still slavishly bows and scrapes at your annual extension and brings gifts, who's never left the country or the province in that time maybe that's different. What about that disaster of reporting your whereabouts upon your return home? That was only disbanded not because of any favor or humanity to us but imo it screwed up the data of people actually coming and going out of the country. The government was absolutely insistent upon it despite it being wholly broken on many levels. How about paying taxes and getting nothing for it? Not even a modicum of thanks or respect. Personally, I'm in a very high tax bracket here. Not even a vip AZ vaccine. The act of going to MTT by covid taxi to stand in the covid line to return in covid taxi is insensitive and a bit insane really. Ironically during lockdown. Double irony is when the hand is waived ...oh, too much covid we are closed. So... important when no covid, now not so much. I love my wife dearly but if I'd not met her I'd possibly be in East Europe in summer and only here in the cool season Dec-Feb like the old days. This place is done. Want to travel outside? You'll be looking at paperwork, 25 thousand baht in covid tests, 1M insurance policy, reentry permit in/direct costs and ASQ for self and wife. That's gonna be forever. Covid like SARS before and MERS isn't vanishing off the planet. Worse, it's now institutionalized $$. There's policy and graft.
  9. This is so I'm alright Jack it borders sociopathy. Your daughter is very fortunate. Many students even from the top three universities have found it near impossible to find work upon graduation. I recall the total number of unemployed or underemployed each year at 660k although this would include presumably rajabats and sketchy universities. Not worried about the economy and career prospects your daughter inherits? Thailand's misfortune is your opportunity. That's a shame.
  10. I don't plan on dying of covid either but look at the expat demographics and health and age of many ....
  11. Remember that from your hospital bed or self imposed home-jail. Get covid - go to hospital-jail.
  12. But it's not. Covid in US is relatively under control. US and Eu seeing protests to return to normalcy. That means no masks and business as usual. Thailand won't get relatively vaccinated until June 2022. Then there's Delta, then assuming all is well simply unwinding it all Then there's the shambles of an economy.
  13. Was relaxing on a beach and this snake dropped out of a tree. Totally freaked me out. Beautiful, fast
  14. Put simply, staying here is a fool's game. It always was but now with covid it's a very dangerous game. Many of you not thinking through this properly. You will get covid. Do you want to be here and pay for it ( and get sh++y treatment) or at home? Covid is FOREVER and ever. It's going nowhere. Wake up. If you have health issues, old it's not just the flu it's death for you in great likelihood.
  15. I absolutely think it will last forever! Thailand?? The money!! First, it will be overwhelmed with cases for two years Then it would take three years to pare decisions back. But the mafia is in place. ¥€¢£¢€¥ monnee. Covid tests Covid vaxx Quarantine hotels Paperwork$$ Phuket was just a bad wet dream that's gonna get shut down in weeks. Mark my words. Not been here long have you??
  16. The broke ass 60+ crowd think things gonna be alright. Ignore all, it goes away But covid isn't going anywhere. Best you go home no matter the cost bc they'll let you die here and you'll pay to do it. This covid thing gonna go wide so hope y'all pllan on staying in your bunkers FOREVER. My niece had mRNA vax and she has COVID-19. How you gonna deal?? Penny wise pound foolish - with your life
  17. Tor is built on Firefox https://support.torproject.org/glossary/firefox/
  18. Don't bother. Just got word my 23yo niece who'd been mRNA vaxxed has COVID-19. All a big laff really.
  19. How many got covid in that crowd?? What a nightmare.
  20. Tor is great it's just painfully slow. It also can be a magnet for attention so I've heard. Do bear in mind Tor uses Firefox. Jus sayin
  21. Thai students get get great tutors for cheap. They have an excellent command of their subjects and charge half of what many of you erroneously believe you're worth. It's good enough to get them into finals for national merit scholarships. I just tell my students to never take a foreign tutor. Half of them are their because of lack of degree and the other half a lack of discipline. Teachers teach, tutors tutor and those online are just having a go.
  22. The reality is they can't square the circle. They want everything yet give nothing. I do mean nothing. What are they proffering? Nothing. A person that does in on this scam their life will be no different in terms of privilage than the average retree on 1900b visa. They need to stop digging.
  23. How about they just stay in Florida or Greece? Boats, women, nice weather, decent beaches, good food. Problem solved
