Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
Time Traveller replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Show me where the entry to Thailand is "a lousy 300 baht" ? The cheapest visa is $90, plus mandatory insurance cost, plus the costs of mandatory hotel stay, plus PCR test or Thailand pass. Then of course there's the 700 baht outgoing passenger fee. And that's per person So all up I guess probably not a lot for a single sex tourist travelling to Thailand. But for families on vacation is soon adds up to quite a lot. Love reading these comments from clowns in the peanut gallery- 187 replies

Why are westerners so offended over the word farang? Get over it.
Time Traveller replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well, I'll take your word for it. But I lived in Australia for 30 years and have never seen any business ask for citizenship before determining the price of something, and I suspect it might not hold up in a court of law if someone tried to challenge it. However, if that place is actually a government owned institution, then yes they can impose higher fees for foreign nationals since a lots of social services are subsidized in Australia for their citizens -
Local tourists may help Thailand's tourism industry survive
Time Traveller replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand is like a modern day beggar nation. 11 holidays in 4 months !! That's crazy. I get like 6 days per year. Here's a tip. If Thailand is worried about putting food in the mouths of their citizens, perhaps get rid of the ridiculous number of public holidays each year and get people to spend more time working and in other industries besides tourism. Only an idiot would cut off an industry's main customer base (foreigners) and then think that the way to make the industry better is through more vacation time. -

How do you know that it's "very mild by comparison" ? I'm guessing you have no idea and you're only basing an opinion off the "outrage" of other people. When I think about all the different racial slang words, theres nothing really "terrible" in the words themselves. Only the way people react to it. That's not a justification for using those words, I'm just saying the minute you start classifying anyone based on race, then you're being racist. That's the truth -

Although I've never been there, I'm pretty sure that's a lie. There is no way an Australian Golf club is charging different prices based on nationality. Because it would be illegal. How would they even know your nationality anyway? Did they ask to see evidence of your citizenship ? Maybe you're confusing fees for members and non-members -

It's obviously a click bait article written in jest. The writer said he went to the United States to study Chinese History (?), then complains when other people in his class ask him about pronunciation of Chinese words! That's like a Thai person stopping a random farang on the street about some written English text and the farang getting upset because the Thai person assumed their first language was English Ok whatever. -

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I assumed this article was satire because the answer to his question in the title is obvious to anyone with any kind of critical thinking skills. No American would travel to Thailand and complain that Thai people they encounter don't know the difference between Kansas and Arkansas, so why would he complain that when he was in USA that Americans didn't know the difference between Thailand and Taiwan? It's a joke article, right? -
You can doubt it all you want. But that doesn't change the fact they are sharing your information to the foreign tax agencies of CRS member countries It requires very little work for a bank to pull all the foreign account holders information and send a file with your name, passport number and account information to the appropriate parties. Account disclosure won't hurt the bank, and not doing that might risk punishment. So which do you think they will do?

ubonjoe's advice is really bad. While the Police and the Immigration are different departments, they are effectively the same. If any police officer suspects you are on overstay, they will check that and arrest and imprison you if that is the case. There is no exceptions. They have heard all the stories and excuses before and they have zero tolerance for overstayers. so if this story is true, this is what I would do (1). Engage with the "agent" and explain the situation you are in now without getting mad or accusing them of anything (this is very important). They may have simply lost the passports and if so you will require their help to locate them. On the other hand, if this is an extortion attempt then you may still be able to get the passports back with minimal costs. But either way you need to find out the reasons and having them shut down lines of communication or immediately going to police will not make that happen. (2). If you are getting no answer on (1) then contact your embassy and explain the situation you are in. Because if you have no passport, and you're on overstay, then you are at real risk of being imprisoned. The embassy may be able to contact immigration on your behalf to work out a deal to either allow time to get a replacement passport, or provide leniency so you don't get arrested. But you would still be fined. (3). If your embassy is not able to advise you, then you may want to speak with a reputable lawyer. (4) Only then, after you've tried all 3 above points would I go to the Police and report the matter. Because, the agent could simply state that they never saw you before and you're trying to accuse them of something that didn't happen. In that case, not only are you up against immigration laws, you're now in Defamation territory.

Thailand’s new entry fee – boon or bust for tourism?
Time Traveller replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Then why not $20? Or $30? Or $100. Still happy to pay? You do do realize that once introduced taxes only go in one direction - up - and pretty soon half the cost of a flight is now taxes. Yeah. So unless you were born yesterday you should realize no one is complaining about a $10 entry fee because it's not just a $10 entry fee. There's 8 or 9 other taxes and fees with different names that have to be paid as well - visa fee, COE fee, quarantine fee, covid test fees mandatory covid insurance, copies of forms, bank statements, plus if you enter through the airport there is airport taxes plus airport taxi taxes. And the most laughable part is when the government declares they will not charge the visa fee for the next X months. Thailand is almost as difficult to enter now as the old Soviet Union was. I don't think the US charges "entry fees". I've entered USA a number of times as a non citizen and have not been charged anything -
Thailand Named #1 Destination in Asia for Global Retirees
Time Traveller replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Why does this forum continue to publish such nonsense garbage international country ranking lists? You would have to be a completely brain dead imbecile to make life decisions based on these reports because they are in no way at all grounded in reality and I'm convinced they just use random numbers to come up with these. For example, the "Climate" score lists Thailand at 58. The same as Ireland. Yep, totally understand, the Thai climate is almost identical to tropical Ireland. But other countries at the same Latitude as Thailand rate differently - Mexico (86), Costa Rica (80). Complete garbage, waste of time reading the rest of it. -
UPDATE: Brutal attack on Thai woman investigated by NYPD
Time Traveller replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Under the law, they are only Americans. Race identification hyphenated Americans are liberal invented patronizing "feel good" terms with no real definition apart from the most racist of all - racially categorizing people. In fact, the whole liberal left wing idea is to make those groups of people think of themselves as less than a real American. This newspeak is simply just racism. -

What is an "Asian American"? And how are they different from "Americans" ? Also what has that got to do with this case, as she was not American at all, but instead a Thai citizen. The liberal left wing media as confused as ever. -
Poll: Expats -- do you identify as a globalist?

There must be a lot because it didn't take long for find one example. The 2nd reply essentially said that "Globalism" is a racist term and anyone who uses it is a racist. So, yeah I'm going to say there's a lot them left wing nuts around -
Poll: Expats -- do you identify as a globalist?
Time Traveller replied to Jingthing's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
No, because it's a ridiculous fake news website that is trying to change the meaning of a word to make it seem racist and in turn those who use it as racists. (Presumably Trump, because he has often said his own belief is that he favors policies that benefit Americans before other countries.) As said before, the word only refers to an idea on where or how decisions are made. Centralized global decision making instead of Local based decision making. It's not a slanderous word toward any group of people. Stop trying to gaslight people.- 246 replies

Would you like me to tell you what you can and can not do everyday? If you answer no, then you are not a globalist either. Decisions affecting Thai people, should be made by Thailand. Just as decisions affecting African countries should be made by African countries, or decisions affecting Texans, should be made by Texans. Only a meglamaniac dictator would not agree- 246 replies

Time Traveller replied to Jingthing's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Hell no. Every country has the right to make decisions that effect their own people and nations. In fact, globalism is the height of elitist racism. Try going and telling the Thai people that should now follow orders given to them by foreign powers even if it affects them negatively.
