Emirates never said they would scrap them, they just wont take delivery of more after the last few delivered, meanwhile they have over 100+ that will rejoin the fleet shortly and be part of the fleet for the next several years. They are even retrofitting a large part of their a380 with their new premium economy - looks lush..

A380 perhaps isn't the best indicator for recovery of the airline industry. Even Qatar are restoring some A380 - but this is due to problems with A350 that need repairing

I think the reality is they want you to pay first because they know any reasonable insurance provider will say "you having a laugh?" so there exists a risk they wont get anywhere near what they wanted..

You're not off the hook yet. I suspect the reason (as over-the-top as it is) is that other tourists on your flight might not get their results to very early tomorrow morning or late tonight (it took barrow 28hrs), if they are positive then you could be screwed - unless you had an empty row, and that behind and in-front, and you had a private transfer to the hotel (although I guess those at same hotel they would of got their results too by now). More and more exchanges are accepting credit/debit cards that are either Mastercard Secure or Verified by Visa as the chargeback category to dispute is covered by liability shift in these scenarios - previously exchanges got battered with fraud and had to absorb the chargebacks. Cards that don't support strong customer authentication are likely to be rejected - this is of coursed expected - although the percentage is slowly decreasing - main holdouts are some USA cards and those that are nearing expiry or belonging to a credit union. Another point to watch out for is that some banks treat crypto exchange purchases as cash advances - hence you may not get an interest free period, you might only be able to use a % of your normal available balance, and you might be subject for further fees (depends on banks and sometimes the card conditions) - this can be true even if the merchant category code is not one typically related to cash advances (banks got wise). Do a small transaction of $100 to test first.

Depending on which page Google takes you to the rules are unclear - one say no history of overstay, another say no more than two overstays, one said none in three years and some forum posts mention five years - any idea which it is? I overstayed by a number of months in 2014, paid the fine and returned a few days later, I was then on working visa/permit. I cant recall if I overstay by 2-3 days in 2015 too or if that was in 2014, and a few overstays by days in 2012, either way more than 5 years ago, and new passports since. Any experience of applying for TE with a buried history of overstay? I know people like to chant that the computers have it all linked up, but I've never found this to be the case, otherwise the times I have been questioned at length to purpose no one has ever mentioned overstay. It will obviously be a question I ask TE when applying but I want to make sure I'm not setting fire to this money based on the salesman advice

Agreed. We've now surrendered to the fact that everyone will get covid, and multiple times, most probably have already had it at least once. The family has insurance, sufficient insurance to qualify for the thailand pass, it's just weather any sane international insurance underwriter is going to cover illogical government behavior, that said with toddler it's still irresponsible be a nightmare for kids locked up that long in a hotel room
