It would be interesting to see how easily they deal with this issue...

    a) Sure, will just print you a replacement.

    b) You'll need a police report, new proof of address, to book an appointment, to re-do tests ABC etc...

Thailand is an enigma - I sometimes approach an issue here thinking its going to be a complete nightmare to deal with only to find out the an issue was resolvable within a few mins..    Then I sometimes approach a simple issue and a logical solution seems impossible !!!!

That's pretty much my train of thought as well. If it was known to be as simple as showing up and the DLT would rectify the situation, I could consider it. But I can see your scenario b coming into play as along with having to shell out for a new set of licenses because it was my fault for being a farang 555.

I will say though as I've been living in Thailand for over 12 years now I cannot think of one time when the address was ever looked at or even considered for anything.

  2. Just my luck, I returned back from the DLT and the GF looks at my newly minted motorbike and auto licenses and tells me they the wrong room number 347 instead of 547 of the condo we stay at on the back of the license. Is this something I need to go back and correct it or something I shouldn't worry about.

  4. So is it best to have your Residence and Medical Certificates' with you when going the first time to make your appointment to the DLT or wait to see what your appointment date is? Just concerned as both certificates I believe have 30 day expiration dates' and not sure what the lag time on receiving your appointment date is especially being on the tail end of high season.

Prior to this I've done 23 (I counted them!) cash advances at 4 different BKK bank branches, 3 of them in CM malls.  I never had an issue before other than the clerk hit the wrong button once on the machine and the transaction was rejected.

The bank employee's explanation of the rejection seems to be somewhat reasonable.  The clerk who actually served me said they never do a cash advance on debit cards and send the customer to the ATM and it works there because "the ATM works faster or something"... LOL.

Appreciate all your updates. I guess cynical me likes to think that the bank doesn't want to lose out on the extra ATM fees it's losing by allowing larger withdrawals inside.

    UPDATE:

I was surprised today when I went to do a teller cash advance using my USA debit card at Bangkok bank.

They said they cannot do a cash advance on debit cards, only on credit cards.  I told them I've done it many times and showed them the slips from the last one in June.  Still no dice!

I asked them to call their telephone help line and they did so while I waited.  The customer service rep told me that this particular BKK bank branch (Hang Dong Big C mall) doesn't have a manager on duty so they cannot offer the cash advance on foreign debit cards.  By this time, I couldn't make it to a bigger branch before it closed.

If you're refused ask them to direct you to the closest branch that has a manager on duty.

Well that's not good news, I was planning on going to the Jomtien (Pattaya) branch this week to do a withdraw.

Unless I'm missing something on this site, it only gives what the actual  exchange rate is. The daily bid rate is what Schwab uses on the transfer of cash to baht. Using the bid rate lets me calculate to the penny how much USD are relived from my account.

Not aware of the issue until now. He recommends taking the bike to Honda now to get replaced under warranty. Have you gone?

No, I'm still doing my due diligence on purchasing a Click 160, when I saw this on YouTube and I was curious as to anyone having any feedback on any of this.

He also has a another video that goes through a list of other smaller issues with the bike (11 minute mark) along with discussing the issue of having the battery located in the floorboard (21 minute mark).

  9. Just curious if anybody had any problem dealing with a plastic gear going bad after about 2kms in the oil pump  I came across this Thai YT motorbike shop video attached below. Go to the 2:20 mark and he starts in on this issue. Its best to mute the sound and read the subtitles as it's in Thai and to avoid hearing the cartoon sound side effects.

  10. I maybe mistaken but isn't there a grace period of about 1 year after a regular 5 year DL expires that your still able to validate the expired license.

The reason I ask is my auto license expires in May of this year and  my motorbike in May of next year 2024. I never use the auto license but would like to have it in case of an emergency. I'm trying to determine if I can manipulate it to where I only need to visit the DLT only one time in order to validate both licenses for another 5 years.

What are the laptops you want to dispose of? Brand? Age? Model? Maybe someone can put them to use where they are just paperweights to you.

For example, I'll take a 10 year old, military spec thinkpad (x or t class) over a new consumer grade laptop from the major players.

No there nothing of any real value like that just a low end HP and Acer bought roughly 15 years ago.

It would be better if you delete the HD to the manufacturer's setting and donate those laptops to needy children organization to use for as long as they can...

I thought of that but wasn't sure if they could use such outdated machines that may not work well if at all in todays environment. These machines are  close to 15 years old.

  13. Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the IT forum, but living here in Pattaya here goes.

I still have a couple of old laptops still around that I need to get rid of. By old I'm meaning that they were running on Vista and XP operating systems, I'm aware I need to extract the HD and destroy it. But I would appreciate any info on where I can dispose of the rest.

I would contact them via FaceBook messenger and verify if this is legit.

Are you a YouTube channel subscriber, did you actually enter any draw or competition?

Why are they using Telegraph not Messenger?

Are they Thailand based? If so, why are they calling in the middle of the night?

It definitely smells of a scam, but one never knows.

Yes I'm a subscriber to the channel. That is a good question as to why they choose some unknown app to contact them. I think you ay have hit the nail on the head.
