Thailand Affirms Neutral Stance on Russia-Ukraine Crisis
Capella replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I think you're oversimplified the situation in Ukraine, as western observers have a tendency to do. Rather than being a homogeneous place demographically, it is split into Russian and Ukrainian camps, analogous to demographic splits in places like Ireland, Malaysia and the former Yugoslavia. As a nation, it really should have stayed neutral, but it was seduced by NATO expansion, while treating its ethnic Russians as second class, and the rest is history. It has now been carved into two pieces. -

No need to be so condescending in your tone mate. We're having a debate here. Now tell me of one single case since WW2 where western meddling in foreign wars ended in any other way than total disaster, misery, death, displacement and destruction? Korea? Vietnam? Afghanistan? Iraq? Syria? Libya? Laos? Yugoslavia? Cambodia? Central America? And now you support Western meddling in Ukraine based on feed from the same corporate media that brought us nonexistent WMD. -

So why do these peace loving people field an army where it's allowed to wear Nazi insignia? -

The Western world may well end up with the Western half of Ukraine only. The industrial and resource rich Eastern part is gone. Either way, the Western world meddling in wars it doesn't understand has led to one catastrophe after another. Thailand is right to stay out of it. -

Wise decision. The Ukraine war is none of Thailand’s business, so why get involved? It's none of the Western world's business either, but the West never can resist preaching and meddling.- 175 replies

British press support UK pensioners losing out in Thailand
Capella replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The woke Johnson government hates pensioners. The woke opposition hates expatriates because they vote for the woke Johnson government. Nothing will change. -
I knew someone who set up and ran a Bangkok tailor shop. The vast majority of them aren't tailors at all - they just take your measurements and send them to vast sweatshop factories to get the suits made up by itinerant workers. None of the fabric comes from where they say it comes from either.

Thailand, China share some common aims on Ukraine
Capella replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It's very sad to see what's happening in Ukraine, and any other war zone. War is hell, and it's sickening to see how the media and Hollywood glorifies it. That said, Ukraine really has nothing to do with Thailand. I don't blame the Thais for not engaging in direct action, or taking sides in ways that go beyond concern and calls for talks that lead to an end to the fighting. -
Do you believe in the weekly Covid case statistics anymore?
Capella replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's not so much a question of do we believe. It's just that we no longer care. -
Any phone call, email or SMS that you're not expecting is a scam. It's that simple.

Will Thailand’s new chemical castration penalty stop sexual reoffenders?
Capella replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agreed, and I'd add evil as the main another reason why people perpetrate these terrible crimes. Terms like power dynamics and emotional stuntedness are rather mild and implies that nobody is at fault. -
Electricity rate to increase to 4 baht/unit in May-August
Capella replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
My stuck meter was good while it lasted - aircon on all the time. I did have to pay the monthly rental on the meter though, which irked me a bit when I found out it had been stuck for so long. I didn't get a refund on the rental, but they didn't charge me for the electricity either. -

For several years I marvelled at how cheap electricity had become in Thailand, until one day the electricity company replaced my stuck meter with one that worked. -

Big Decision: Which Asian country is ideal for foreign retirees?
Capella replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agreed Philippine food is probably the worst in the region. Most of it is vile. It's why you see hardly any Philippine restaurants anywhere else.
