Hi all, as the title suggests, I am thinking about returning to the UK with my Thai wife and child. The main reason for this is education. I'm wondering if anyone else has moved back to the UK for schooling can share some other benefits of being in the UK to better sell the move (to my wife and also me). Here are a few that I am thinking of so far: Great education for free for my child Access to free healthcare My child can form better relationships with my family and understand their heritage Automatic national insurance contributions Ability to save using a Lifetime ISA Cleaner air Safer traffic I would be really keen to hear from other people who have made the move, or have thought about it and decided against it. Many of the things that kept me in Thailand for so long now don't bother me too much anymore - girls (I'm married), weather (too hot for me now), nightlife (I'm too old for that). The things I would definitely miss is the liveliness of the place, the incredible condos and their price (I would be going down the public housing route in the UK), the food, and the overall feeling that I am doing something with my life as going back home would definitely feel quite mundane to me (normal job, family car etc.) I hope this question is clear and I haven't rambled on too much. Looking forward to reading your replies!

They really need to get their ducks in a row. It doesn't make sense that a backpacker fresh out of college can come and teach here with no hassle whereas us who have made our homes here are left in limbo like this. A bachelors degree and a TEFL is more than enough in my opinion. I'm sure thousands of others would echo this.

Runners Not Wearing Masks
FrankThePlumber replied to FrankThePlumber's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Just my luck I would take my mask off and 2 mins later the police would drive by. I'll keep it on for now -
I went a walk with my wife and daughter around a rural lake area, pretty popular with runners, there were maybe 10 or so there... and none of them were wearing masks. I was so tempted to take mine off too but I'm too paranoid. I feel like the punishments for flouting the mask rule would be much harsher for farang. Has anyone ever been fined for not wearing a mask, or know of anyone?

What is this waiver nonsense all about?!

Thanks for your replies guys. As previously mentioned, I live in KK and am one of 2 English teachers at my school. My colleagues usually last 2 years max. I have a family and don't have any foreigner friends to discuss CPD with. I have managed to get a job teaching online, thankfully. -

Yeah I'm in KK and will start job hunting tomorrow. I believe language schools don't have this requirement too? -

I looked into that but it looks like that entire industry has been shut down just last week. Married with a kid but still using Non B but will try and switch to Non O if I can't get a job. Won't last long with a kid and very little savings. -

Nope they never mentioned it to me, well my school never, I had no dealings with khurusapha or even knew of their existence until 2 days ago. BA doesn't cut it as it's bachelor of arts and not of education. Messed up system ruining people's lives. -

I always use focussed here at our English Programme ???? -
I have been teaching at the same school for 8 years now and have used up 4 waivers. My school never, ever mentioned a thing about this until now so I have been totally unaware about this requirement. I live up country and teach at a local school for 33k per month. I plan on going home in the next few years when my son is 5 so I have around 3 years left in Thailand. With that in mind, I simply cannot justify paying upwards of 150k for the PGCEi never mind afford it. I have no long term aspirations of teaching or do I long for a job at an international school. I'm happy where I am for now, with my salary and I'm too focussed on my family and teaching my classes to think about studying more. Do I have any other options? Surely they can't put me out of work because of this, but a backpacker coming for a few months to show up hungover every Monday is all good? I'm angry and upset thinking about it. I have a BA in TESOL and a CELTA. What more do I need to teach at a government school in Isaan?! Any help guys? Thanks, Frank
