  1. Nick Dean in his last YouTube address said omicron is rife in Pattaya. Phuket no doubt will be the same. 2 punters went into the Triangle bar in Soi Chaiapom and it just ran through the bar. Now 6 girls tested positive and doing hospital quarantine. Triangle closed until further notice. Triangle is open sided and a band where back playing. Chonburi is due to have a meeting today. Thailand now is not just playing their own population for complete mugs but also visiting tourists. To the best of my knowledge you have to do a pre departure test to leave Thailand. Let's see how that works out for folks in an alice in wonderland country with 3000 odd covid cases. It's criminal misinformation and deliberate falsification of what is actually happening on the ground.
  2. It's not calm in Pattaya. Triangle Bar, off Soi Bukahow, has had 6 members of staff taken into hospital quarantine after testing positive for covid. Part of the SHA+ accreditation is regular staff testing. Bar has been shut until further notice. Nick Dean was saying that omicron is everywhere in Pattaya and that Chonburi are having a meeting today. He expects restrictions to come back in. One minute the Scandinavians are whingeing their banged up because they can't read the Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital small print and then the next bunch of ABBA lovers think everythings calm.
  3. Apparently the 4th wave was the exit wave for the 1918 influenza pandemic. Let's hope history repeats itself for this pandemic's 4th wave.
  4. https://www.nationthailand.com/blogs/in-focus/40010576 Don't know if old/new news but Bangkok governor closing bars/entertainment until mid January. I lose track of whats official or unofficial.
  5. I am saying the figures are BS based on incomplete and low levels of testing. Sorry if you couldn't understand that.
  6. Khon Kaen banning alcohol in restaurants from January 1 - 7. Chonburi, allegedly, is having a meeting tomorrow to do something similar. This will get the tourists flooding back.
  7. https://www.thesun.co.uk/health/17132807/britain-successful-covid-booster-rollout/ Only 3 countries bettering the UK worldwide. Heading towards 60% boosted, Thailand about 8%. Once again the cutting edge of Thai science/maths/statistics show it's head. Useless.
  8. You obviously don't know anyone in the hospitality trade on the ground in Pattaya. Nice to see someone who still believes the "listed" cases in a country that's just stopped publishing it's ATK figures. Would you put your hand up if your ATK tested positive? Yes Mr @Olmate it's off for a fortnights lie down in the hospital for you. Thought not.
  9. And you know nothing again.... Monsoon lasts April to October.... http://www.knowphuket.com/climate.htm ....????????????
  10. It's reported on the PA forum. Photo of a large folding billboard outside the bar with the testing requirements listed. How long they are doing it for or how the mechanics work was not discussed. Hopefully, another member of that forum can confirm.
  11. Honestly, i think omicron may come and go in Thailand within a few months. Like the first wave, there maybe very little major issues and lack of testing will not scare the population. Just depends on how reactive the Thai government are. No different than any other government globally.
  12. Surprise surprise looks like omicron is alive and kicking in Pattaya. Being unofficially reported elsewhere that 50 people tested positive with ATK tests who attended a party. Guy knows 3 bar managers and a bar tender who have also tested positive. Let's see what happens.
  13. BP reporting above. Original couple have spread it to 11 other provinces. North East area i believe.
  14. Thanks but seems to be behind a pay wall. No such thing as a super spreader event with a virus as contagious as omicron. It's a perfectly engineered super spreading machine, it just needs air to replicate perfectly.
  15. In view that they have had 20,000-30,000 Scandanavian cancellations that is unlikely. People aren't interested in the Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital program. Certainly not interested in Phuket when the monsoon season leaves it looking like a desolate damp squib for a large part of the year.
  16. LOL. As usual you seem totally out of touch. Main strip of Soi Made In Thailand raised to the ground. Most of the beer bar complexes raised to the ground. Most of Walking Street boarded up/for rent/for sale. Sausage Fest around Tree Town/Soi Bukahow. Join the queue to stir the porridge. Virtually, all bars open illegally. Last drink 11pm. Closed by 12am. BIB unwritten rules or they will all be closed. Most of LK Metro still closed. Can't get a game of pool in the bars. The good lookers won't be coming down from Isaan until bars/gogos/night clubs reopen properly. At least they have a clue, unlike some of our correspondents on this forum.
  17. UK furlough scheme 70% of wages during worst of pandemic. Result - multi year low unemployment and still falling when economy reopened. Thailand - do nothing. Throw a few useless token gestures to the peasantry, rice price low of 5 baht, let them eat frogs, field rats and fido if theirs nothing left. Rack up even more debt on mortgages, cars, motorbikes and phones. 20% of GDP gone with a ridiculous Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital scheme to pretend we give a fiddlers. Top 5% of Thai society gets richer, keeping up our stellar record of the most unequal distribution of wealth in SE Asia. Well done.
  18. Could not be put simpler. Know of a guy who cancelled euro disney for him and the family next year. Travelled this year but just can't be bothered with the hastle. To the best of my knowledge, euro disney doesn't even throw in a possible hospital stay as a bonus.
  19. In a forum desert of barstool unsubstantiated gossip, rumour and misinformation, your constant drawing us back to either published scientific facts or UK public health data is always appreciated @Bkk Brian
  20. Or the Thai figures are complete BS. UK and France 100K - 150K cases per day Thailand 2500 cases Do me a favour.
  21. People aren't stupid. We had the story of the Danish family yesterday, with the daughter being taken off to hospital for failing a test. Area 39, a very popular bar near Treetown, Soi Bukahow, Pattaya has started ATK testing to get into the premises. They are not accepting proof of vaccination apparently. Editor of the Pattaya News confirmed that if you fail that ATK test, an ambulance will be called and you will be taken to hospital. Who in their right mind is going to travel 6,000 miles to put up with heads you win, tails your taken to hospital.
  22. Don't thank Boris, thank the 100 odd Tory MP revolt in parliament. They are feed up to the back teeth with restrictions. Boris has been warned. Schools won't be closed.
  23. Unfortunately, the UK isn't taking a bold move. England is taking a bold move, appauled by business and hospitality within that region. NI, Scotland and Wales have their own useless administrations terrified of their own shadows.
  24. LOL If he is lucky, his insurance company will be paying for it. You seem to be very naive about how things work in Thailand. The hospital isn't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. It's a commercial relationship between the hospital and his insurers. That's if his insurers are prepared to pay out on a asymptomatic basis. Thailand isn't a developed country either it's a developing country with an appalling education system and the most unequal distribution of wealth of any SE Asian country. I wouldn't get yourself worked about tourism returning anytime soon either. Given the omicron variant's transmissibility and speed of infection, news of the Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital scheme is going to ensure a dribble of tourists. Very unfortunate for 20% of GDP and the part of the Thai population dependant on it. You can be rest assured however that "your developed" country will continue it's abysmal testing, vaccination and lack of support for the poorest in society. No doubt many farangs, from developed countries, will continue to help those Thai citizens. Please advise me where i can get a pair of your rose tinted divorced from reality glasses.
