You haven't answered one point that has been put to you. Do you think Thailand's pathetic proactive testing rate would have even picked up omicron in the country? What about the WHO article saying travel border restrictions are a waste of time? Do you think Thailand can eridicate a globally endemic virus? Now stop defecting and attempt to answer a few simple questions.
-
A bit like your suggestion that covid is the fault of tourists arriving at BKK. Alpha and Delta was spread in Thailand by HiSo Thai's in Thong Lor and by migrant labour crossing land borders. No matter how many times people are told those facts, it's easier to destroy tourism to keep a virus variant out that is now endemic in Thailand. UK will try to live with covid from March. Apparently 40-60% of those in hospital "with" covid were admitted for other reasons. Most worrying on these threads, is that people seem to think a Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital on arrival in Thailand is still acceptable as part of the "new normal". It isn't.

Back to the dirty farang narrative. No doubt spraying bleach liberally all round the place is also another stroke of Thai genius. Outdoor spaces, climate and age demographic all, no doubt, have an advantage with omicron. However, Thailand's biggest advantage is they do virtually zero proactive testing. To be honest, all this is largely irrelevant with a variant that presents as a sore throat and bad cold for the vast majority of vaccinated people. Omicron does not seem to replicate in the lungs and is a truly mild disease. UK cases, in a country doing 1.4 million reported tests per day, are falling off a cliff. Down from 120,000 to 80,000 in a couple of days. Virtually all restrictions are to be lifted in England on 26th January. With no travel testing required on return to the UK. With luck, this pandemic is drawing to a close, with the UK being one of the first countries out the other side. Meanwhile, after nearly 2 years of zero tourism, the best Thailand can do is talk about a return to Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital in the second half of 2022. It's pathetic, open BKK and resume normal service.

In a month's time the panic will have passed. Post all the graphs you want. Did you read what Fauci said? The unvaccinated are the problem. Full stop. If you don't believe me, have a read of what Sir John Bell of Oxford University thinks. "Omicron is not the same disease." Move on. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/28/omicron-is-not-the-same-disease-as-earlier-covid-waves-says-uk-scientist

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/01/12/covid-omicron-variant-live-updates/ Lose the fear, it's getting really tedious. Fauci saying the vaccinated are at "very, very, very low risk of getting seriously ill with omicron." Looks like New York and major metropolises are peaking all ready. As Fauci says "everybody is going to get omicron at some point". It's time for the rest of us not to be held hostage by people who don't want to get fully vaccinated. They should be ostracised from society. Slowly marginalised and punished for their stupidity.

Everyone is avoiding getting testing. The figures are fit for toilet paper. For once, the Soi Bukahow barstool expert has far more of an idea than the jerry mandered Thai government figures. "Hospitalisations" are people who would be better getting a box of Kleenex and blowing their noses at home. Mass hysteria and mass overreaction.

Is Thailand rushing to categorize COVID-19 an endemic disease?
Cherrytreeview replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Reality versus mass media hysteria, so beloved by our fellow posters. One of the UK scientists on the radio this morning trying to explain why they got their doom and gloom predictions so wrong. Sounds as if the death figures are also up for debate regarding deaths of or with Covid. From the start South Africa said the hysterical global reaction and border restrictions where a total over reaction to omicron. How right they where. -
Used to go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival every year. Hope you have a great night at the comedy club and spend plenty. Hospitality could do with the cash. Things are very quickly getting back to normal. Boris made the right decision, luckily his back benchers put pressure on, and now the doomster scientists and home nations have been made fools of. Time to move on. Thailand has most likely peaked already. However, i can't fix stupid.

Welsh First Minister is on the radio. Omicron infections have fallen from 2300 per 100,000 to 1200 per 100,000 in one week. No wonder the South African scientists and doctors thought the rest of the world had taken leave of their senses with their hysterical panicking. Perfectly personified by some posters here.

France has reopened travel with the UK. You will notice the last article quoting Professor Paul Hunter saying that covid deaths are running at half the seasonal flu average in the UK. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10393527/Omi-gone-Cases-falling-30-Englands-boroughs.html

The UK is now over the peak and restrictions are being lifted already. The UK's vaccination campaign has been a huge success. It is a simple fact that omicron, which will become the dominant strain globally, causes less hospitalisations and severe disease in a vaccinated population. France has lifted travel restrictions on the UK already. I repeat, the UK, US and Europe will live with endemic covid from Q2 2022. Your hospital pressures will pass. You need to look under the headlines.

Totally agree. Thailand's health care system would have been falling over by now because omicron is rife all over the country. No testing as usual but posters on here believe all the BS that Thai media feed them. Anyone with contacts in Pattaya knows it's been everywhere through the city. Pattaya or Chonburi hospitals falling apart? Of course not, the only pressure on them is asymptomatic patients who have a bad head cold having too isolate.
-
Correct. UK daily case figures fell over 20,000 today. The wave as passed, as it will do all over the world. The unvaccinated being to blame for filling up hospital beds. Too many people panicking on this forum. Virtually hysterical. Hospitalisations are far less than previous waves and are of a shorter duration. Far less people requiring help with breathing. Therapeutics are now effective. UK is now openly talking about making covid an endemic disease.
-
Bit of a clue for you there "everybody and their dog has covid." They think the unofficial infection level in the UK was 500,000 per day and the health care system didn't fall over. Most people don't even know they have it. Northern Ireland now wanting to ease restrictions as soon as possible. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-59977434

I can't help you if you want to live in fear. You can look for all the doom you want but the reality is that omicron is an upper respiratory virus and people are 50 - 70% less likely to need hospital care. As i said the UK, US and Europe will move on with their lives. Feel free to live in fear. I won't be and neither will anyone i know. South Africa told the rest of the world they were overreacting and that proved to be the case. Time for you to pop your head out of your bunker and smell the roses. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59862568 Maybe if you read this it will calm your fear.
-
And? Did you read what i wrote or are you determined to be fearful of a variant that manefests itself as a bad cold in the vast majority of vaccinated and boosted people. It's old news in the UK and people are sensibly getting on with their lives. Case rates are falling rapidly. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/12/uk-could-be-first-country-to-emerge-from-pandemic-expert-says.html?__source=androidappshare

Think your confusing omicron with delta. England kept hospitality and retail open over Christmas and the New Year and it has proven to be the correct decision. The UK's overly gloomy scientific modelling proved totally incorrect. The devolved executives of Scotland, Wales and NI have been made fools of. The UK is a highly vaccinated and boosted population with all at high risk groups boosted. The boss of the UK wide Four Seasons nursing homes has said restrictions need to end. They have had omicron flare ups but then it subsides. 1 of their residents has passed away from the virus. The UK, US and Europe will call covid an endemic disease by the start of Q2 2022. Countries need to focus on vaccination and not scaremongering and terror tactics. I think your missing a bit of reality balance. Not good for your mental health and a very different experience for those of us living in the UK. Time for you to clock out of the fear factory.
-
If the world was run by people that just implement their "opinions" we would still be living in a cave. Although by the looks of it your getting as close to doing that in Thailand anyway. You seem to want Thailand to implement your discredited, uneducated, unscientific and nonsensical "opinions". I hope your adopted child was not home schooled because you seem to believe in a medieval approach to fact based modern science. "When something works, you want to stick to it" would have us still travelling around in horse and carts. Maybe you might actually think about what you type because your making a complete fool of yourself.

COVID-19: Thailand reports 8,167 new coronavirus cases, 14 deaths
Cherrytreeview replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand seems determined to throw a totally hysterical hissy fit about omicron. UK, US and Europe are pretty much on the other side of omicron with a lot less hospitalisations and deaths than previous waves. By spring the UK, US and Europe will be treating it as an endemic disease. Thailand and SE Asia need to concentrate on their booster campaigns and stop the xenophobic hysteria.
