  1. It's like a sad version of Lord of the Flies, where the protagonists are running a country with sub-80 IQs.  Imagine being bold enough to do what this guy did, and yet be so stupid to not even know his own office had cameras in it.  If it weren't so tragic, it would be hilarious.

And no question this guy will walk...or fall down a flight a stairs 10 times...or 'escape'.

The economies would have been devastated regardless.  It is simply too virulent to not have a major impact on the economies.  There were, and would have been more people sick at the same time.   The hospitals and medical facilities would have reached near total collapse (they did in some places even with mitigation).   People do not perform well when they are sick or have to attend to sick family members.

I think economists and public health officials will, in time, offer us more insight on that issue.   Keep in mind the early measures were to 'flatten the curve', which was more about spreading out the infection and ensuring the medical resources were available to as many as possible.

We also have to remember that with each passing month and year, more people move into the higher risk areas.  More people develop heart disease, diabetes, get cancer, need transplants and just plain get older.

You are correct that those at the highest risk need to be proactive in protecting themselves.  I am fully vaccinated and have had my booster.  I still avoid indoor shopping, when possible and grocery shop early before the stores are busy and crowded.  I do so as fast as possible.

We have to many people in congregate living facilities who at the dependent on younger people who may cause exposure.

I don't fully agree with all your points, but in the end, unless vaccines and treatments are made available world wide, we will live with it until it burns through the entire world population.  Whether it will burn out or be reduced to embers that flare up occasionally remains to be seen.

Analysis by anecdote.  Almost every single thing you mentioned has now been shown to be false and/or ineffective.

FYI, even a cursory review of the history of viral outbreaks would lead even a semi-literate person to understand that there are actually a few things that a government can't do.  Eradicating an endemic, highly-contagious respiratory virus isn't one of the capabilities that any government has.  Even with a very effective and safe vaccine (like with Covid), it took a worldwide campaign many decades to eradicate smallpox.  Another fun virus history fact....do you know who the last person to die of smallpox was?  A laboratory worker who caught it from a lab accident....oh wait...those don't happen.

There is alcohol, just not unlimited.  not sure why for a semi religious thing you need to go to a bar.

Lanterns in the country would not be an issue but lanterns set free in Pathum Thani or around the airports are just asking for problems.

Simple solution is if you want to have a beer go to 7 buy a couple and find a nice place to sit and watch things.

For me I am happy that I will be able to enjoy a nice meal and go out for once as I am not working Friday.

Here's an idea...if YOU don't want to go to a bar during a 'semi religious thing', then don't.  If YOU don't want to drink alcohol, then don't.  I've never read a single post on this forum where someone is insisting that others have to drink anything, but the forum is full of the would-be authoritarians and Covid parrots insisting on what other people have to do to assuage their own fears or sense of morality.

Here's a simple solution for you; stop thinking people are looking for you to tell them what to do, or solve their problems.

  4. The halfwits running Thailand and their soft-headed parrots actually believe the nonsense they spew forth.  They actually believe that Covid is somehow spread at night, through alcohol, but NOT during the day in crowded factories.  That's why one is open and the other closed.

And let's not forget the scary chlorinated pools, or the surface of every object in Thailand. ????

    I <deleted> told you all in several other threads over the course of the past week;

Thailand is being turned into a totalitarian police ran state, those (mainly Thais) who supported Prayuth and the current regime are in for a rude wake up call, yet this is only the beginning.

The Thailand we all once knew and cherished is gone, it's dead Jim.

In fact it's getting so ridiculous with all these rules and all these "Police officers" everywhere trying to control and enforce nearly every single aspect of your daily life, it starts to feel like China.

The apologists will be along shortly to tell you how much more freedom there is in Thailand.

  6. The same old pointless arguments about which is better, an apple or an orange.  It's always down to personal choice, at the end of the day.  I can't imagine how so many Western men are happy living in a small dump, scurrying around trying to meet an ever-changing list of demands from a corrupt and inefficient immigration service, and a constant barrage of new restrictions.  But, I understand that home is where the hat is and happy is happy.

That said, comparing Thailand to the UK is a race to the bottom though.  If that's your only two choices....I can see why Thailand looks so good.

  7. Any potential visitors should pay close attention to what this unelected despot is saying and read between the lines.  First, he continues to believe that public health policies will somehow rid Thailand of Covid.  Second, he intends to blame any failures of those policies on those who break these ineffective rules.  Third, he implies that a change in infection rates (which will occur, as they have occurred in every other country outside of 'Paradise' after a reopening) will result in a reevaluation...or another closing.  So, not if there's going to be another shutdown/lockdown...just who will we blame it on?  Anyone who believes the junta's propaganda that the latest outbreak was caused by a few rich guys at Krystal club are the same parrots who will believe their next lies.

If you want to know what an unbalanced, out of touch dictator is going to do...whether in Iran, North Korea or Thailand, just listen to what they say.  Most of the times, they will more or less just say it.

70,80 ,90 not working to well. Israel now has jabbed 4 million with a third booster, was on RNZ national news today.

One thing sticking out like dogs bllks is that the hospital numbers are very low in NZ, only the elderly and those with comorbidities are in Hospital.

Most are recovering at home in self isolation.

But that is enough to, lockdown the economy , people, jobs, airlines are going to the wall, now New Zealanders in Auckland are doing what the Aussies did, and holding mass protests, people getting jailed for protesting against mandates, that say if you don't get a vaccine certificate no job, no Mc Donald's ,no fly anywhere.

Also in that news report about Israel was that the efficacy of vaccine fades, so that after 6 months you may be as low as 30% or less --- not enough they said so thats why Israel is going for Jab no 3.

Now look at the insane vaccine roll out that went for 80%, by the time they get there, those that got jabbed first, have low efficacy are at risk of reinfection, or serious illness and can hurtle through the country and re-infect others.

These are mad times ,I only hope that the madness stops and treatment becomes the norm.

My wife's mother and brother, work in the markets, have never been vaccinated, all they do is drink heaps of ginger tea and take a few vitamin supplements- D being one of them, although I worry about them heaps I can not convince them of taking a vaccine or not, they like to do it their way, and so far so good, but not what I recommend personally to anyone as people make their own choice, unless mandated.

Debating Covid and the pandemic with the Covid people is like arguing with a Christian evangelical about whether or not Jesus answers your prayers....pointless.  Theirs is a faith and a liturgy to be followed at any and all costs, regardless of the actual outcomes.

  9. The legal system in Thailand is a Potemkin Village.  It is merely a tool for the wealthy to bludgeon the less wealthy and has no actual role in the lives of the common people.  For example, try enforcing a signed contract with a wealthy Thai person or company....almost an impossible feat.  The Thai people deserve better, but they have no actual rights in any form to demand a better life and future for their children.  They're merely serfs toiling for the benefit of their detached patricians.

  10. Thailand isn't really reopening, so it doesn't really matter.  Guess the malevolent, kleptocratic, religious extremists running Paradise will need to 'mull' another 'scheme' to 'lure' a different ethnic group to be fleeced.  The next victims will just need to know that they can't bring in any tangible property, buy any tangible property, have more than $700 worth of goods in all of their bags, get tested twice for Covid, pay for one, two...whatever...nights in quarantine so you don't have to quarantine, don't drink alcohol, don't sing, don't dance, don't get a massage, don't stay out after dark and spend 100,000 baht visiting temples.
