  1. I've been a TOT customer since day one. Started with TOT IPStar at 3K Baht a month. Fortunately, I was able to get a landline and shortly afterwards TOT ADSL. First few years no problem, 4mbps all the time. The last year has been trying. Dropouts all the time and no qualified field service engineers. Customer service (1100) is excellent though but there is only so much they can do.

To make a long story short, I was able to solve my problem via this website: http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=371

You have to get the line attenuation from your modem (192.168.1.1). Just enter 192.168.1.1 in your browser and the dialog window of your modem should open. Look for the line attenation value (the quality of your line) from your house to the DSLAM (TOT calls this POD or Junction Box). In my case the value was over 60dB!

Then use the SG DSL Speed Calculator, input the downstream attenuation from your modem and you'll get some very interesting info, like the exact distance from your house to the DSLAM and possible speeds.

I confronted TOT with my findings. They came to the house and could only corroborate my figures. They replaced, free of charge, the telephone line from my house to the main road, some 80 meters. After that, my line attenuation dropped to 38dB and my speed has been 6mbps ever since.

The TOT service engineers told me that Thailand is having a capacity problem. Internet cafe's are opening all over the place, social media and torrents are negatively impacting throughput. TOT are in the process of rolling out glasfiber cables in a big hurry and I am confident that in the not too distant future these problems will be over.

In spite of the current problems I like TOT. They're always eager to help but as mentioned before the quality of their field personnel leaves a lot to be desired.

    Hope this helps!smile.png

  2. Sorry, I've been away for the weekend and just read the comments about the link that I've posted:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Troubleshoot-problems-with-installing-updates

I can assure you all that the above link (same as previously posted) is legit. If you click the Microsoft fix-it button, it will download the following file: MicrosoftFixit50123.msi, size 962 KB. Accept the license agreement from Microsoft and run the program. If my link leads you elsewhere, your computer has been compromised, in particular the browser that you're using.

More about Microsoft Fix It at: http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/?fi=50123

  3. I've tried them all over the past few years. Now stick with the "new" Vuze. Although it has a much larger footprint than e.g. uTorrent, it features a distributed trackerless network, which allows users to find and download content from peers even when they can't find anything on a web tracker. Also downloads multiple torrents at the same time. If e.g. your torrent resides on multiple sites, Vuze downloads that torrent from multiple sites resulting in truly "blazing" downloads.

Tixati is also worth looking at. Tixati is a free and easy to use BitTorrent with an attractive interface and low RAM use. It also has an excellent support system with a very responsive forum.

That said, of course to each his own. For more info visit: http://www.makeuseof...ents-downloads/ for a review of the top 4 torrents.

More at www.vuze.com and www tixati.com.

  4. TOT called me just now to inform me that Demonoid is reachable again and asked me to verify. Great service! I have been with TOT for over 6 years now and so far they have always adequately addressed any internet-related issues that I've encountered. Maybe I've been lucky? Anyway, I'm glad the problem has been solved. Good sites are getting scarce since BTJunkie went black....

  5. One hour ago I called TOT in BKK and explained the situation. They were very apologetic and assured me that they had NOT blocked Demonoid and would investigate. I tried 5 minutes ago and Demonoid is reachable again. At least where I live (Kanchanaburi). Hope this solves the problem for all of you.

  6. Was there ever really any doubt by anyone with a working brain?

The thing of it is, this isn't the fault of the current government, but every government for the past 20+ years. Thailand is a country that has annual flooding. But it worsens each year when rampant deforestation is allowed for resorts and private mansions, which results is fewer trees and other types of growth which can soak up the rain, as well as provide stability for the soil. It happens when factories and housing estates are built in low lying areas, there by impeding the natural flow of water. And all of this is caused by the greed which permeates Thai society and thinking at every level. "Live for today, make as much money as you can, and who cares about tomorrow" should be the motto for Thailand, not "Land of Smiles". I don't see a lot of smiling going on now.

No, wait, I take that back. I see a few from those here in the north who are smiling and saying that it's about time that "precious Bangkok" is finally getting a taste of what the rest of the country has to deal with on an almost yearly basis.

This flood is a tragedy which I doubt any Thai government could effectively deal with, or could have prevented under the current circumstances. The loss of lives and property, as well as businesses is sad by any means. The best Thailand can hope for is that they will actually LEARN from this, and then take the necessary steps to develop a new water management program that will benefit ALL of Thailand, and not just BKK. Far too many in BKK think that they are the "center of the universe" when it comes to Thailand, and don't really care about the "provinces". Perhaps now they will wake up and realize that what happens in the provinces, CAN and WILL affect Bangkok.

    Time will tell.

    VERY well put. Thanks.

  7. Hell I feel sorry for all those that express negativity willy nilly without any thoughts or ability to being proactive and creative and see the good actions that are already happening.

It's easier to be critical than be correct.

Give the Lady a chance...... its easy to say "i told you so" later if she does get it wrong......but so far she's doing just fine with her stated aims during the election run-up.

But whatever.....as farangs we are powerless, there is not a damned thing we can do to change anything.

Settle back in ur armchair pick up ur beer and .......Enjoy the ride.

    Now watch the Flames arrive.

No flame from me! I agree with you.

  8. All you people who are cheering this are absolute scum, you know that? At least people who use ED visa's are trying to do something to stay here legitimately.

Some of you lot forget that we are essentially all here for similar reasons, it's just that not all of us are lucky enough to have a job or be over a certain age so that we can get the visa we need...

You might laugh now while you have your comfortable retirement visa or whatever it is, but one day they'll clamp down on those as well - then perhaps you'll wish you weren't quite so gleeful about the struggles of the rest of us to stay here. Morons. Shameful

    Speak for your self

I don't drink or drug and have a very nice Thai wife so I do not haunt the brothels.

I am here because I like the people the culture and the country.

I do not have to lie and cheat to stay here I conform to the requirements. I did when I came here and I still do.

The people they are out to get are the one's like you looking for the easy way out with out going through the honest process. Probably the attitude that you had at home.

Let them clamp down on me I meet the requirements. No Worry.

Well-spoken!!! As far as other, truly abusive, posts are concerned, I can only come to the conclusion that forum rules no longer apply and all moderators are still sleeping.

With reference to the forum rules isn't it about time that a moderator wakes up and flays these type of derogatory posts?

  10. Enough already.. politicians, and political clans ALWAYS come back in Thailand.

Everyone knows it's going to happen, let's call amnesty for the Airport idiots, the Ratchaprasong idiots, the army generals who sent in war weapons, and Thaksin, who's actual 'conviction' on a conflict-of-interest charge is so minor you'd almost smile about it. (Looking at what past PM's got away with; if you jail Thaksin for that then you need to jail absolutely everyone with the possible exception of Chuan.)

    Done.

We might as well just get the group amnesties over now and see the country move on as delaying it is just going to add more and more people to those needing amnesty and increasing utter hatred and eventually it will still happen but after more acrimony.

The establishment have lost. They need to accept this as if they dont the only options they have left are a horrible violent coup that will probably result in failure or ever more court cases that more and more people see as poltically motivated and unfair to the point where the whole justice system is discredited. This was a let the people chose election and they have. They have rejected the establishment and their supporters and chosen Thaksin and his even after the establishment and the poltical parties close to them had two years to change minds or even crush their opponents. They failed in such a way that PTP are now stronger and more united than PPP 4 years ago. Unless anyone wants to see more tragedy, it is time to put this to bed, and if that means a few old elite figures have to go to tending their flower beds rather than sitting in smoke filled rooms plotting what the government are allowed to do then so be it.

Right now the country has a senate, a reasonable sized opposition and the courts havent been totally undermined in government supporters minds. There is also the media. This is a check and balance enough on a government coalition. Thailand remains a functioning developing democracy if it is allowed to be. Sadly further interferance will only destroy this with the only possible outcomes being a military backed up hated government of probably useless old people with no forward vision but plenty of backward vision, or a Thaksin government full of suspicion, utter hatred and control of everything and with absoltuely no check and balance on it. Neither of these scenarios is anywhere near as good as letting the elected goevernment get on with its job and the check and balances theirs while those who like to interfere find more pastoral pursuits and enjoy family time

VERY well put, I totally endorse your point of view.

And when the next rich family's child kills some peasant on the road they won't serve a day in jail because Thailand never changes or dares to change.

Sure, and when the sky falls down, we all wear blue hats!

  12. Shows how out of touch the Thai Visa news section regulars are with the opinions of the majority of Thai people IMO.

Great day for Thailand - putting the military and elite firmly in their places once and for all.

    Spot on!!

Spot on? I'm sorry but that's just laughable. Do you know anything about Thailand or its history? Please tell me what basis you can support that?

Typical response of a Thai Visa bully. Yes I do. Do you????

  13. Pantip Plaza. Top Floor. Bought one myself last week. Brand name Belkin. Accommodates 4 USB devices. Price 900 Baht. May seem expensive but Belkin products are truly outstanding.

    Hope this helps.

  14. Nice, but sorry not interested in fishing tour companies. I have never used them and will never use them. I got better gear then most of them. But thanks for the effort.

My post was merely a pointer to give you some info on fishing in Khao Laem. No obligation to use any tour company. You can use your own boat, if you have one, or simply rent one there and use your own fishing equipment. That's what I have done. I also hired a guide for one day, since these local guys know where to fish. The fishing there is truly sensational.

Hope this helps and good luck with your fishing endeavors!

Im not really looking for fishing from a boat, im looking for something like a living boat or a bungalow on water that you can fish from. Not going out in a smaller boat. I will be bringing other people who dont fish much so they would stay and drink there so its more fun fishing from a place like that.

My last shot(!), how about the following links:
