  1. My standard for espresso drinks developed in San Francisco's Italian neighbourhoods. For coffee quality, Lanna and Libernard are my favourites. Libernard probably has the best barista talent in town. The owner takes great care to use the correct roasts for each type of pressing, rather than one roast for all.

I've tried Starbucks here a few times, seems like the coffee lacks freshness, perhaps because the beans come from abroad (including the Thai roast). But I'd rank Starbucks over Black Canyon. The coffee at Black Canyon tastes even less fresh to me. Too much foam in the lattes and caps at every Black Canyon I've tried.

Wawee also usually disappoints, not sure why they can't seem to get it together. Beans don't taste very fresh and the baristas again tend to overmilk the lats and caps. Could be they're catering to Thai tastes.

Funny how virtually every espresso shop in town (Libernard may be the only exception) serves powered nondairy creamer with their fresh-brewed java. And I notice that many Thais add powdered creamer to latte and cappuccino as well.

For price, the two branches of Tawa on Suthep Rd can't be beat. Beans are freshly roasted, if a bit over-roasted, and the original Tawa has free wi-fi.

The Coffee Bus across from Rimping Supermarket they do a great Latte @ 35 Baht beats the <deleted> they sell at Starbucks for 85 Baht

  2. As said above.

You always use the same passport to leave a country that you used to enter it.

Enter and leave the UK using the UK passport since if you used the Thai passport she would need a visa. When entering and leaving Thailand, use the Thai one, because she would only be allowed to stay 30 days on visa exempt or need to get a visa if you used the UK one.

And for other countries, use the one that gives you the best "deal".

My baby was born in Thailand so this is the first time she is leaving thailand. so will it be the same Thai passport out of Thailand and Uk passport into the Uk Cheers Guys

  3. Hello all

I left the u.k. 7 years ago and I hope someone can give us some advice

    1. Having sold my house. (not recommended)

    2. Using money we built a house in Thailand. worth about 8 million baht

    3. We have been married for 5 years now

    4. We both want to go back to u.k. together

    5. We have no relatives or friends in the uk to support us

    6. We have no bank account in the uk But have one in Thai Bangkok Bank

    7. But we do have 127,000 in cash after we sell our Thai house - this more than enough to cover our exspensives and not be a burden on the u.k tax payer. While we look for a work - surely this is the big issue

    8. My wife needs a settlement visa.

    9. I resigned from my job to come to Thailand - and hopefully get another.

Any advice or help would be gladly appreciated, thank you

    wan jansab

I would give him a post and ask for guidance he sponsors this forum Davies/Khan check him out, and dont worry where theres a will theres a way. 4. OK, I am not wanting to apply for a visa for a lady that I meet some time ago, rather just thinking ahead as I have just returned from LOS after meeting a very nice lady, I was wondering what I can do now to document our relationship should we ever need evidence of our relationship in the future?

Her English is poor but she is keen to learn, she has no translation of her name in English type script, I do not know even if I get the correct pronunciation of her nick name right (Dre'an) let alone know I spell it correct, I know her age but not her birthday, we text each other but we both use pay as u go mobile phones, I do call her from the house phone so her number would be itemized but I would not expect her to call me.

Really the only thing I have is a number of photos of us together, is there a way to get say prints of these photos dated and witnessed as to be acceptable as valid prof in the future?

I have had many relationships with ladies from Thailand but most have ended when the start asking me to send money, for some reason I honestly believe Dre'an to be different.

    BB

Do a standing order for a small amount every month to her bank account, thatll help,.

The best way for her to get her full name translated in english is to get a Thai passport this process is very easy she just goes to the thai passport office with Id card and family book and a week later she will have a passport, it only cost a 1000 baht, just keep everything you can.goodluck bud. marshall

  5. Hey guys and gals. today we got our Fiancee/settlement visa thanks to a great man and company on this forum (Davies Khan Aka The Scouser)

So how did we get it, well to start with I contacted Jason at Siam Legal, I told him that I did not have a established life in the Uk ie bank account and house they basically told me I had no chance of getting a visa. That put myself and my family at a really low point in Thailand. So here I was in Thailand with my girlfriend and baby with no job and a 1000 pounds to my name, thinking what can we do. WELL HERE GOES FROM HERE ON IN, IS OUR SUCCESSSSSS STORY through you guys on this forum and the man who made it all happen for me The Scouser.

He answered many questions for us and stated many Immigration Laws and should I add how positive and democratic this guy is. I told him our circumstances and his response was I dont see why you cant get a visa.

So now we took The Scouser on as our Immigration Adviser at his set fees, (Money cant touch the work this guy does,he goes the extra mile).

He prepared everything for us and also answered all our questions and when things seemed low The Scouser remained positive and reassured us that all legal requirements have been covered in this application. So we set off on our journey on Tuesday got the Tb test, all clear by 2pm over to the application center, Mrs was in for about 30 minutes. Now our visa app was in the hands of the entry clearance officers and all we could do is wait and worry and worry more and more and more and then we start to tune in to the what ifs, what if this what if that, you guys who have been through this process will totally understand what I'm talking about.Anyway Thursday morning I nip out for breakfast and the Mrs gets a phone call from the Entry Clearance Officer, asked the general questions (1) How long you been together, (2) Your B/F has never went home in 20 months (3) Do you know you have to marry within 6 months,(4) Do you know about the visa, I asked my G/F what her response was she said Nid Noy, I said Oh my God we are F....D, I went crazy by this time and calmed down and then I phoned The Scouser who remained cool and calm and positive and said thats great that they have called you, there thinking of giving you it, dont worry.

Anyway Friday now, today, checked the website nothing, called nothing and decided to go down to the center Mrs went in 35 minutes and 10 cigarettes later, the Mrs comes out with tears of joy in her faces she gives me the passport and i see the visa 6 Months Fiancee/Settlement Visa the tears of joy came streaming down my face and my reality was sinking in we were going home to sunny Scotland with my G/F and my baby what a joy. Thanks guys.

Scouse your the man you have so many assets in your head that they just flow out your mouth naturally you have the ability to make people feel at ease when the goings tough,Thanks.

I would like to finish on this one note, the Scouser was away on a business weekend and i called him and he responded to me in Thai (Hello Tee Rak) His exact words not mine i later found out that Tee Rak means Darling, Thanks Scouser maybe all the guys from the Gay forum will be requiring your services. Marshall.

Guys If you need any info let me know, I know how difficult and daunting this process is.

  6. Thanks for the spelling advice, appreciate it! All my Thai collegues down here in Phuket spell it with a Ph, must be a Phuket thing!

Dan Sai Kid - Excellent, that's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. Appreciate it.

Dustoff- Take more risks, it's only an online chat forum, what's the lay of the land? Of course, in your opinion.

    Thanks

    Lithobid

Googling "Phayap" turned up more than a few replies. It's a transliteration rather than a spelling, so variations are no surprise.

The traffic will indeed be an issue, if travelling at peak hours. Living close by might keep travel time to 20 minutes.

My advice is to first visit a few real estate agents, who will take you to a very select number of vastly over-priced rental properties. This will help you get some idea of what's available in the area. Then, take a taxi with a Thai driver who speaks adequate English (can recommend if needed) and drive around the target locale, looking for hand-made signs as well as gathering and leaving infomation in local shops and restaurants.

Have a Thai help you negotiate the rental. Perhaps give this person a few thousand baht to help you get a reasonable rental price & conditions.

That's a good idea about the real estate agents, why not completely waste someones time amd petrol (money) for nothing? Better still if you are free why don't you drive the OP around at your expense, being such an authority on googling should cut out the agent altogether. :o

Perhaps you could open a new thread on how to screw various occupations, I suspect you have a wealth of hard earned knowledge you are dying to share.

Hi Im living in a private Village with swimming pool and all that jazz, Its a 2 Bedroom Bungalow, with 2 Bathrooms, Kitchen and big Living room, We are moving out at the end of April so you can have a look at this if you want. give me a PM and i will send you more Details cheers.

  7. Please help, I am new to this forum, a forum virgin infact!

I am looking for advice on inviting my Thai girlfriend to the UK for a holiday. The purpose is to spend some quality time together and explore a possible future together. If we decide to take things further, I fully intend for her to return to Thailand and re-apply for the appropriate visa (ie. just want to do the right thing).

We met last December 07 while I was on holiday in Thailand and spent most of the two weeks together and I can’t wait to see her again. She is 34, degree qualified, recently quit her secretarial job and now works freelance and comes from a good family. She has no children, no assets in Thailand and hence no reason to return, apart from seeing family and to comply with UK immigration visa rules such that she can come back to the UK in the future. She has never been to the UK before.

I am 49, have a good job, home and can provide proof that I can support her in every respect for an indefinite period. Unfortunately getting time off work is difficult before June, so I think it unlikely that I will be able to get to Thailand much before then and for her to get a break from work, she finishes a contract at the end of May.

Given the above I would like to invite her as soon as possible for as long possible, if the earliest is to be June, then I would like to start the process before then so that I can plan to take time off work for at the very least, some of the time she is here.

I can provide records of phone calls and a few photos of us and members of her family together.

I believe the laws are about change.

    So …

What is the best way to go about this? When would be the best time to invite her for reasonable chance of success? and how long to ask for? Could I offer a bond to be lodged with the UK BKK embassy to be returned on her arrival back in Thailand?

I have reading many articles, with some excellent responses from 'the scouser' but still not clear on my situation.

If I was you I would chat to the scouser. He sponsors this forum and also he is based in the UK. Even get hip to do youre app, click on the link on this page and you will be able to contact him, Davies Khan, good luck buddy. Marshall

  8. I am currently in Bangkok in the process of obtaining my babies Thai and British passports.

Yesterday I went to the British Embassy to submit the application form. Since registering the birth is not a requirement of the application process and is also very expensive I chose not to on this occasion. However the expense does not come into the equation if I thought my baby daughter would be disadvantaged by not being registered. I understand that if I chose to register her there would be a record of her birth in Britain and she would also be issued with a British style birth certificate and she could apply for a new one should it ever be lost. However can anyone please advise me of any future problems she might encounter if she is not registered? How does one get their national insurance number at attainable age in England for example?

I asked about some of the above at the embassy and was told that she might need proof of birth date for something like a life insurance policy-although I'm sure the Thai birth certificate with translation document should suffice. They also said that I might be asked for it when applying for her second passport in 5 years time...but I found this a bit odd as after all why should her second passport require anything different from her first? She is after all British by birth right.I appreciate that the paper work would be virtually eliminated for the second application but I get the feeling this was mentioned more for the passport offices benefit than mine.

To date the only answer from anyone I have received regarding any advantage of registration is a rather generalized and without any real substance "to avoid any confusion or problems later".

So please can any of you mums and dads or other wise folk give me some solid basis either from your own experience or others that you know to convince me that registration is a necessity for my child .Where are the real pitfalls of not registering and indeed if there are any major pitfalls why would the British Embassy not make registering compulsory?

    Many thanks.

I would say its worth it, I have a little girl, who has two passports Thai and British and a British birth cert my reasons for doing this were.(1) If no birth lines then she cannot get a passport so by law she is not British. So when we go and visit family and friends back home we have to go through the visa process for her which as you know can be quite costly. (Correct me if my thinking is wrong) (2) Also information received is that you have to register the birth within a year.(3) My long term plans were never to remain in Thailand so my Daughter gets free education when we go back home. So I think it better to do than not to do, gives her more choices.

  9. I have been married to my Thai wife for 12 years. My Father-in-law pestered me for years about wanting to come and see the USA....Well he died, and asked why I had not helped him come and see the USA just 2 weeks before he passed away. Sort of stuck with my concience.

Well my Mother-in-law is just a simple village person, but we just bought a large new luxury home, and I would like her to come visit for a few weeks.

    She lives outside Surin. \\

    Questions:

Where is the closes place she can apply for a passport.

Does it take 3 or 4 weeks still?

I expect the same stuff at the US Embassy, but while she does not have much money in the bank, owns a nice home, and 100 rai of farm land so don't expect too much problem in getting the tourist visa. Are there any new wrinkles in getting a toursit visa?

I am luck, that once she leaves home for a week or so, she want to get back to her buffalos and cows....so do not think I am taking on a liability.

Several years ago I told her and her husband to get passports, but they were both worried what people would say if they got passports and could not get visa..."everybody would say bad things about them".

The only down side to this thing is the extra money for my wife to make 2 round trips in order to ride with her mother that has never been on a plane.

Dont know where to get the passport but when applied for you should have it in a week, was very suprised how quick the Thais do passports good luck

  10. .............put it in a binder with some dividers and an index - a concise but well-written covering note never hurts,

This is a serious business - so treat it seriously & professionally.......

You got it, Captain! Exactly what we have done. A divided binder with a polite covering letter and a neatly filled in application form works wonders.

    Good luck.

Hey I would go with Scouse just look at the positive feedback he,s had and also hes based in the UK so near to you, but as they say in Thailand UP TO YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Give him a post see what you think Goodluck

  13. Hi guys and Gals looking for some info. im looking to get a visa for my girlfriend, we have been together for around 2 years, we are not married, we have a baby who is thai/british. Im wanting to go home my situation is i have not got the evidence of the funds to say i can support my girlfriend also my family dont have the evidence of funds to say they can support her. we are looking for a visa to marry in the uk and stay long term. my friend is willing to sponsor her would that meet the criteria for a visa to the uk. any advice would be gratefully accepted please tell me the process Thanks Marshall

Scouse i have just spoken to jason at Siam Legal, what he is saying to me is i have no chance of a Visa without 6 Months backdated bank statements.what he is saying that i have to be established within the Uk, I ve told him about other peoples expierence on this forum. his response was he works with the embassy every day. could you give me some clarity on this info from him. Thanks Scouse i beilive your info is solid. cheers Marshall

  14. Hi Marshall

I don't know if its the same where you live, or will live in the UK, as i live in Jersey, but I went down to the immigration office here to have a chat with them and find out what evidence they would be happy with in terms of supporting my g/f and baby. I did have statements which they looked at but they were more keen to know that I had a job and could prove this in writing. So I got a letter from my employer, confirming how long I had worked there, my salary, even any potential bonuses from work. I completed a sponsorship form with them and gave them all I could.

I also got a letter from my landlord addressed to me confirming that my girlfriend and baby could stay in my flat, he mentioned them by name. I even took photos of the inside to show that there was enough space. I suppose you brother will need to give you a letter and a copy of his mortgage/deeds to the house, plus maybe some photos to show this.

I think if you give as much as you can you can't go wrong.

    Good luck mate

    John

Thanks everyone one more thing what about the TB test do we just go to her hosptial and get them to do it and get them results in English thanks Marshall

  15. If you'll be starting your job immediately upon returning to the UK, you can use that as evidence of your ability to maintain yourself and your fiancée from the word go.

    Scouse.

So scouse if i have the contract would i still need a guarantor as i said i have no bank statements or financies.would the employment contract be enough. also what about accomadation we will be staying with my brother is there any evidence needed there. thanks in advance Scouse.

  16. As a general principle, in relation to settlement visas you need to show that the two parties to the relationship can support themselves from their own resources. In other words, you are not able to rely upon someone else's financial assistance. This is slightly different in relation to fiancée settlement applications as before the marriage you can rely upon third party help, but afterwards, you need to demonstrate that you can maintain yourselves from your own funds.

Consequently, your partner could apply for a fiancée settlement visa and present your friend as being the financial guarantor, but she would still need to show that following the marriage you would be able to support yourselves from your own resources.

    Scouse.

I will have proof of a contract of employment which i am getting sent from the uk stating my job and salary. would that be enough for after the Marriage.

So my friend can be a financial guarantor for the first visa and then after we marry i will support everything with my salary is that correct scouse many thanks for this info as ive not got a clue about this process.marshall

  17. Congratulations.

Will you be flying to the UK with them? The reason im asking is my wife flew to the UK by herself and i paid for her ticket over the internet on my credit card and they were a little bit funny with her at Bangkok airport as the ticket and and credit card name obviously didnt match.

    Steve

hey jonny looking for advice posted on the first page so maybe you can have a look at my post and offer me some avice. Thanks Mate Marshall
